For some reason that (silly) horror moview, starring Justin Long, left quite a scary impression on +- 16 year old me:
Jeepers Creepers.
It was a good film until you saw the monster.

Watched 'They Live' on the Horror Channel last night. Meg Foster's eyes!! Think I'm going to have to dig out Masters of The Universe for another fix.

It is a quality movie, my third favourite from Carpenter. With his best work being "The Thing" and "Big Trouble In Little China".

I'm not sure, I think the monster was good in the first movie but his antics got a bit stupid in the follow ups.

The scene that really got me, keep in mind I was only like 12/13 when I saw it, was the scene with the monster dumping the bodies down the whole. Give me the creeps

I've not seen it since it came out, but that's my recollection of it. It was genuinely quite creepy, especially when they went into some cave like tunnel/lair place. Then the monster is revealed and it went a bit shite.

I continually tell people that I'm not into horror films, despite some of my favourite films being in at least in-part horrors - Alien(s), Predator, The Thing, The Omen, Halloween, The Fly and a load of others. I always enjoyed the cheesy practical effects horrors of the 80's - the likes of A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Evil Dead and can even tolerate the throwaway B-movie crap like Leprechaun, Nightbreed and Ghoulies (my only excuse is that I'm an 80's obsessive).

But after 90's/00's filled with Blair Witch Project copies, the cheap CGI throwaway 2000's, the so-called 'torture porn' genre etc, I just lost interest but as it's Halloween, I've watched a few.

Coincidentally I was flicking through Netflix yesterday and saw Jeepers Creepers was there and I hadn't seen it in years, so gave it a go. As most have said, it's quite effective until it devolves into the usual 'monster blood bath'. It always reminds me of Roadkill (Joyride I think in some regions), which was pretty similar. Also watched Scream for the first time in a while and although it's 'of its time', it was pretty good.

And after hearing good things, I watched It Follows yesterday...was pretty good actually.

Another recent one that I wasn't expecting anything from was The Babadook - worth a watch.

Saw Don't Breath the other night. Wasn't bad, decent back story, bit different. Enjoyed it.
Sam Raimi had something to do with it.

I throw another vote out there for the V/H/S series, as they're shorts it can be hit and miss, but there are some interesting ones in there.
Has anyone seen the new Blair Witch?

Of recent horror movies I really liked Insidious, creaky houses, shrieking violins and cheap jump scares will win over torture porn any day.

I was going to recommend From Beyond - just hilarious
Re Animator is fun too

Seen a couple of others recently that some might like
February - it was quite good, it left an impression. Very slow and just generally creepy for about an hour and a half.
When the violence comes, its pretty vicious. Good story and acting make it better than its crappy imdb score (5.8 ish) warrants imo

Spring - just subverts the horror genre a bit and is fun. I'd recommend that to people who dont like horror movies (cause its not really a horror movie).

Seen a good movie called the bunker or something a while back too. Its set in a bunker built over an old disused tunnel system during ww2. Might have been german (or at least set from a german perspective?)
I've seen about 4 or 5 horrors that follow the same basic plot recently so they've all kind of merged into one nearly.

Think i might watch dont look now again

Doctor Strange (2016)

Seen this in 2D at the Odeon this afternoon. Not your conventional super-hero movie but decent fun nonetheless. You even get a brief explanation as to how they have different priorities to the Avengers gang who are referenced a couple of times during the movie. This would probably have been good in 3D but the films seldom justify the extra ticket price outlay, so I didn't bother. This is one of the rare super-hero movies that although chock full of extravagant special effects still manages to tell a story without leaving you somewhat unfulfilled though the characters will probably get more development in future sequels. This is more like an Inception film on steroids with some bits of humour thrown in. Nice teaser at the end which obviously I won't spoil for anyone. Yeah I quite enjoyed this. Be interested to see where this goes in the sequel.

I'm giving this a 7.5/10.

This scene from a movie 30-40 years ago scared the absolute crap out of me.

No idea if a similar scene in a contemporary movie would have the same effect. Or if it needed to be watched when I was a) younger and b) not used to modern, effects-laden movies from the same genre.

Either way, it's one of the most creepy scenes I can remember from any movie ever.
I love this film. A very creepy movie all in. So good and you can literally see the moment where the writer of the Ring started to put pen to paper.

Never before was I bored of a horror film. Nothing happens till movie is an hour and 15 mins up then there is like 15 minutes of the film left

The Witch is very good. This and Babadook are my favourite horrors in the last couple of years.
I thought both of those we over hyped, especially the witch.

Anyone seen Starry Eyes? Really enjoyed that a few years ago bit it's not one many people seem to have seen...

Really love the related \ similar films feature on IMDB. I've found tons of similar movies to the one I am checking out via that feature.

Edit: Also the Witch was a huge disappointment.

1. Halloween

Then comes everything else.
The Thing is a better horror movie I think, but Halloween was more defining.

If I had to choose one of his films it would probably be BTILC though. I love that movie almost to the degree of an obsession.

I have. Was ok, but I didn't like the ending and it was all a bit body horror I felt. The maggot bit, for instance, didn't really work for me.

I liked the ambiguity of Babadook and thought the Witch was a really clever exploration of the negative results of faith as well as having a really visceral Satanic feel (something Starry Eyes went for and didn't quite achieve I felt).
