Ian Brown- Interview On United

I grew up in Manchester... Timperley is down near Alderley Edge isn't it?

Strewth mate, your geography's a bit crook for a local bloke!

It's hard admitting Oasis are shit these days

Fair dinkum fella, that's an easy one to admit! One of the dullest bands I've seen, which is a shame given how exciting the first album was - wich I'd caught them back then to be honest...

Ah.. 95-97?

No offense, but it was all over then, you were just listening to the scraps and left overs.. no wonder you come across as not knowing the score.

What was all over? Are you talking Madchester?
I'm not talking about the Madchester scene if that's what you mean, I'm talking about the so-called Britpop thing that happened, but feck all that Blur and Pulp bollocks, I'm telling you that in the mid-nineties, Oasis were the Kings and there were supporting acts such as Cast, Ocean Colour Scene, The Verve etc who came onto the scene which re-popularised bands such as the Stone Roses, the Mondays etc, not to mention The Beatles who found a new audience in young teens after Oasis declared how good they were.

Move along everyone.. move along...

There's nothing to see here, trust me...

Erm, Dan - Timperley is ten miles outside of Manchester, it's closer to Alderley Edge and Bollington for feck's sake.
Go have a Thai takeaway, drive there in your daddy's new Merc old chap.

That's an interesting way of looking at things, never heard that claimed before. I suppose it makes sense for your age-group.

Mate, the Roses hadn’t done anything for FIVE years as they got their royalties from the first album, then fecked off getting leathered, developed bad drug habits and watched United a lot.
Oasis came out in 1994 and blew everyone away. The Roses released their comeback album, Second Coming, later that year to critical panning, but by then Oasis had taken their crown.
Despite still having a loyal following from the previous decade, Oasis declared to the younger fans how much they admired the Roses and The Beatles as their influences, which in turn led to thousands of kids who had never heard either band going out and buying their cd's and hence re-popularising them.

I thought that the Roses were in dispute with their label, and it prevented them from recording?

I recall something about that actually, but the main reason they left the follow-up album so long was because they were out getting blitzed off their royalty cheques. They were in dispute with Silvertone I think, with a long court battle played out.

This is all true, and the Roses had self destructed by the second coming period - in a sense Oasis had indeed stolen their crown. I think it's quite a narrow age-band of people who hadn't heard of the Roses or the Beatles before Oasis put them on to them though.

I presume you from North Manchester, but still... Timperley is just on the other side of Sale from Stretford - half a dozen Metro stops and probably about 3 or 4 miles from Old Trafford. Nearer than Altrincham. Alderley edge is a town in the country a good 10 miles further out and Bollington's another 10 miles on that - pretty much part of Macclesfield!
Some cutting stuff with the Thai takeaway and merc references though. Is that what's posh down under?:smirk:

Because I was in an Acid House haze from 88-95 I didn't notice the new bands coming through.. which is just as well, because they were mainly shite.
I used to sit in the K stand around 88-95 lookin at the match in a haze after nude night on a friday in the hac :wenger:

Which was also just as well, because we were mainly shite.

As per Google Maps, Timperley is a good six and a half miles to OT brother.
Nah, Thai takeaways aren’t posh Down Under mate, they're a dime a dozen, having a wank into a condom is posh though.
I am from North Manchester actually, just north of the city centre where men are men and so are some of the women.

Johnno is getting bashed on Geography again..

Don’t make me crush you, like Ivan Drago crushed Apollo Creed; we have been over this time and time again and you have since received counselling.
We all know you are a Mickey Mouse, Cilla Black is your mam, you have accepted it, I've accepted it, move on.

I was too young to hit the Hacienda at nights, the only time I ever went was for a few snide concerts on Sunday afternoons they did circa 1996 when I was mid-teens.

Let's all have a disco.. let's all have a disco...

Remember those discos we used to have at St Michaels Primary School where we'd stuff our faces with Space Raiders, Kia-Ora and some cake then get up and have a boogie to Rick Astley and try and look up the girl's skirts?

No you're not.

You are from the land of Oz..

Why are you lying?

I am not lying, I am elaborating.
Was born in Oz (so I am from Oz, yes).
I was raised in the UK, in Manchester, so technically after living there a large portion of my life, I can lay claim to being from there, considering;
My mam and two sisters were born there; I received all my schooling and grew up there; I have a Mancunian accent, with a double sexy Manc haircut and a top walk which no Aussie can mimic.
I would say I am a Manc, as well as a proud Aussie.
You were one of the fecking Boswell's mate in Bread....

Yes, but where is it now?
You were only a Lancastrian for two years.
You have been a fully-fledged Bindipper for 35.
Attack!!!!!!!!!

Wet behind the ears eh lad?

No, just younger than you boss.
I'm quite gutted I never got to experience the Hacienda in it's heyday, although nightlife in town in the mid-late nineties was pretty damn good.
Although it was mainly a bombsite when I left Manchester!

Rick Astley eh?

Newton-le-Willows if I remember rightly, we used to play them at rugby when we made the trek out of town into these strange sounding places such as NLW, Aspull, St Helens, Leigh, Wigan etc

Over-rated cocky twat living off the reputation of The Roses, whilst being a Plastic Manc, he's from Warrington actually, and a bullying cnut who threatens women on airlines.

Warrington?
Was he born there?
He went to Alty Boys Grammar school, I know that, because I went there too.
And my Mum used to teach his kid at Stamford Road primary.
