Lukaku came out today and suggested that it would be a dream to play in Serie A.

https://www.skysports.com/transfer/news/11667/11703116/manchester-uniteds-romelu-lukaku-hopes-for-dream-serie-a-move

Normally I would say any time a swap deal is mentioned it may be total bs, but in this case it could actually make some sense.

Sure, I'll pack his bags and get him a cab as he couldn't be trusted to find his way to anyplace

PS: article dated 3rd March

No thanks to the Icardashian soap opera.

They can have Lukaku on a free for all I care.

Yep, would be good for me. Same or less wages than Lukaku though. If he thinks he's getting some bumper deal here, he can duck.

There's talk of too many players leaving United this Summer it seems, I just cannot foresee the clear-out being this drastic and Lukaku would be a surprise if we are already losing Mata, Herrera, Darmian, Valencia, Rojo and possibly Sanchez/Pogba/de Gea...

However, if this is on the table I don't see how it can be a bad move.

Check the second articles date.

Any swap deal mentioned is usually total bull, but now Lukaku has come out and said he wants to play in Serie A, it feels more legitimately plausible.

Di Marzio mentioned that a Lukaku - Icardi swap deal was possible.

If it is true that Pogba wants out we could be looking at a 442 with this player:

Icardi Rashford
Martial Fred Rice Sancho
Shaw Alderweireld Lindelöf Meunier
De Gea
Although you would pray for another central midfielder. I don't know if Bruno Fernandes would work in a two although he does have a good defensive work rate. Maybe Rabiot?

OK, Icardi is a toxic prescence and we'll never sign him.

Hope that's good enough for you

Anything can be stated as 'possible.' Doesn't mean that there's any substance to it. It's Utd, it'll be read and some will believe anything due to our plight

I'm all for getting rid of Lukaku and Icardi is an upgrade, but he is absolutely not the right personality for our dressing room. Avoid!

Lukaku doesnt want to be here and i would ship him out without Icardi anyway.

Is Icardi the best we can do though? He needs service, he is a fox in the box, his movement is great in the box. But outside of it, he is useless. His first touch is better than Lukaku's, but the issue is Icardi isnt a playing striker and doesnt offer himself, he likes to roam around the box without the ball and wait for service in the box. Plus Wanda.

I dont think it will happen, but i hope we get good money for Lukaku. I would take the deal with Icardi right now if offered though.

He is always on the move and clinical when he gets chances. Obviously the problem is whether or not we can give him those chances, and does he fit Ole's false #9 style of striker he has been deploying lately. And his attitude/agent problems of course.

People said the same thing about Eric Cantona.
How much further do you want to go back?

Cantona's problems were with 'certain' French authorities and the FA in particular.

We signed him after a good season at Leeds, he wasn't in the least bit toxic.

Icardi is a whole level of toxic. We won't be signing him

We'd be ripped apart setting up like that.

Icardi is not much different to Aguero before Pep's management got him working outside the box for the team.
He isn't a real problem in the dressing room, the issues have revolved around his wife's comments on Italian TV and that she used to be Lopez's wife. I think this is a particularly 'Italian' issue.
Proven goal scorer who can control a football, just what United are lacking.
However I think Inter are pretty desperate to get rid, so a swop with Martial rather than Lukaku would make more sense.

That's not actually true, he had no issue with the FA or french authorities, he had issue at club level and with Henri Michel but still ended up being a mainstay and captain of the french team. When he retired he even directly worked for the FA.

I heard that he clashed with the French FA though and that's why he made to move to England. Was that just made up

Would prefer we sell Lukaku than go ahead with this swap. Icardi won't really fit in at United and don't want the drama which follows him.

People complain about Lukaku not involved in build up and now want Icardi ?

Lukaku is a proven goal scorer in epl. He just need a run of games with good service . Icardi will have the same problems as that of Lukaku.

Rather stay with Lukaku.

He's a proven goalscorer who can't trap a ball and whose technique is not fitting for a top 4 side.

He's Everton and WBA level yet we spunked 70m on him

Another ego in the dressing room to stir shit up and stroll about on the pitch. Just exactly what we need.

Sign him up on 800,000 a week

He didn't move to England because of the FA, he was a starter and captain for Houllier and Jacquet after moving in England. He clashed at club level with everyone and ended up with nowhere else to go than abroad. It's only after his ban from football for his kick that he lost his place for France because Deschamps became the leader and Zidane replaced him as the main technical leader.

Icardi is a hell of a finisher but he does literally nothing in the build up. He doesn't even attempt to leave his marker until the ball is about to be played into the box. Then there's his wife to worry about. If you think our players are bad with the press now wait until you see her.

Having said all that, i'd still take him here. He's lethal in the box.

With what Di Marzio said and Lukaku saying he dreams of Serie A I wouldn't be surprised if we've already got this deal lined up. Icardi comes with his own set of issues but he's pretty lethal in the box, which is a trait not a single one of our attackers currently share. If we do actually sign him we may as well go full Hollywood FC and see if we can get Rabiot in here as well, enough drama for a TV show.

I'm fine with gettinmg rid of Lukaku but I don't want Icardi, aside from all the soap opera shit with his wife being his agent, he can't hold the ball up and we'll be the same ping pong side we currently are until we get a forward that can actually keep possession and bring others into play.

A player with Icardis determination might be good for the team, but I don't feel he will get the space he needs to operate like he does in Serie A and would be a fail.

Why is he toxic, apart from stealing his teammates wife?
