How Harry Maguire gets picked and Dunk doesn’t I’ll never understand. Dunk has played pretty much every game and we’ve conceded less goals than United.

It makes no sense.

Dunk has conceded 31. Maguire has conceded 6.

No Ben White is weird... something must have happened at the WC?

Southgate just doesn't fancy Dunk, pure and simple

He sent Ben White home didn't he. Had an altercation with Steve Holland his assistant.

That was just rumours - other rumours were he didn't do some homework, others was he didn't respond to analysis of his game very well.... but the official line was always "personal reasons" and then you had Arsenal and his Arsenal Team Mates saying their thoughts were with him...

Then if it was personal reasons you would have thought it would have been sorted. Like has been said I am amazed Lewis Dunk has not been picked. Obviously not one of Gareths lads.

Dunk is a better player but you can't argue with Maguire's form for England. He deserves his place imo.

I'd replace Dier with Dunk.

Gallagher is having a mint season, he's up there with Phillips, and Dier performance wise. Those 3 are gonna be the final 3 for the Balon d'Or obviously.

Southgate is such a bellend.

Dier, Guehi (on this form), Maguire, Philips, Henderson, Gallagher all in the England squad is mad.

Amazed Tomori isn't in. Not like Eric Dier has even been much of a squad regular these last three years.

I do not really think there will be any problem with the Italy-England game in Naples next week, they have had their crash test yesterday and hopefully will avoid any miscalcultation or miscommunication at higher level.

He's gonna start pickford ahead of both pope and ramsdale isn't he, also no Dan burn again...

Everything about southgate is uninspiring

Bruno, Rashford and co. better not play 2 games for this pointless break.

Selecting has favourites again.

Gallagher, Maguire, Phillips? You're having a laugh. Some old story if you play for a big club you will get in no matter what.

Still can't believe they replaced Santos with Martinez. At best it's a sideways decision.

So which of our first team players remain in MCR to get some much needed rest and/or fitness training during the break?

DDG
Butland
Heaton

AWB
Varane
Williams

Fred
Eriksen

Sancho
Martial

Then there's of course Garnacho & vdB who don't take part in the team training.

Quite a small group as usual, so the rest will come from the academy.

Has the Brazil squad not been announced yet? If not, then I’d expect Fred to be included in theirs.

Yeah Fred’s not in it unless there are some injuries in the names squad.

Strange as this probably is his best period of form in a Utd shirt. Will take it from a selfish Utd perspective pov but yeah you’re right as no doubt he’ll be on the standby list for any injuries that come in their camp.

The midfielders that got called up were André (Fluminense), Andrey Santos (Vasco), Casemiro, João Gomes (Wolves), Lucas Paquetá (West Ham) & Raphael Veiga (Palmeiras). Favouring domestic based players this time.

As you said at least it’s good for us, which is the most important thing. Of course I love to see our players doing well internationally as these things can also have an effect to how they perform at United. But especially with our midfield absentees I’m happy with this. Now watch him get injured at the Carrington gym.

Some weird explanations as well... Talking about the lack of English players in the PL while ignoring JWP, Dunk..

Obviously it would be great to have more English players in the PL but this is more nonsense from Southgate, he's an expert in making statements like this to give himself excuses without making it too obvious.

"I think we've got four left-footed left-backs in the Premier League at the moment" - That's not a disaster! Rico Henry is one, he deserves a chance but has never been selected.

It also ignores that there's probably more choice from abroad than ever before. Off the top of my head there's Tomori, Smalling, Abraham, Winks in Italy. Balogun, Gomes, Spence (France). Edwards (Portugal), Branthwaite (Netherlands), Bynoe-Gittens (Germany). All getting regular minutes and are above Championship level. He can afford to correctly leave out Alexander-Arnold when he'd get into most other squads. The percentage might not be as high but the depth is certainly no worse than other European teams.

Aside from Pedri and Gavi coming through this has to be the most average Spain squad in a long time. Joselu gets his first ever call up at nearly 33 years old, Aspas still in there and he's 35 now and apparently Morata is captain now and he's 30 so they're really really struggling for young top class attackers compared to a decade ago.

Really need Fati to get going again next season. Interesting group they're in with Scotland and Norway, can see them struggling a bit in the away games.

Yes, great news. Shaw should also get out and so should Bruno.
