Irish Politics and stuff.

I work in tech and we always say “exponential” to describe rapid increases in lag or decreases in performance over a very short period of time so maybe it’s wrong in the real usage of the term. I don’t think what I said was outlandish though, I mean, is the graph I posted really disproving what I said, other than that I used possibly the wrong word?

Great, tech bros now rewriting the dictionary as well as fecking up elections. What could possibly go wrong?

You might have noticed a massive increase in the number of guards patrolling town over the last two weeks as well? I was speaking to some from the Department of Justice who was saying there’s been a massive change in direction under O’Callaghan.

Can't say I have but it was definitely needed. For a good while there you'd hardly see a Garda at all walking around the City.

Although that reminds I did have a chuckle walking home from a few after work drinks the other evening, when there was a drunk couple outside a pub waffling the the heads off a pair of Gards, who were indulging them good-naturedly, while their mates were hanging back looking bored waiting to head on. I'm not sure you'd get that in too many other European capital cities.

Massive or exponential?

How about you suck my exponential dick.

My dog is British so accusing me of being anti immigration is insane. I also met a Spanish person once in Barcelona.

Im in the pedant boat with this one. Its a mathematical term that occurs frequently in tech and will see regular use but it has a specific meaning. Its when a number grows by a multiple so it'd need to be doubling or tripling at each data point to be exponential. One interrupted data point doesn't really qualify.
A lot of people in tech talk crap and dont understand half the terms they use.
I have nothing useful to add on the actual subject.

I know what exponential means mathematically. I actually did think it was a 2-3 year curve, not a sharp rise from one year to the next, but I did use the term too loosely, fine - then I just wanted to argue with moses.

Anyway, I’d say the bolded isn’t just specific to tech.

Yeah no doubt. I just find it a funny industry because your selling to people who have no idea what they're buying, often by people who have no idea what they're selling.

I’m guessing all of these stats aren’t getting talked about much?
It’s a said facet of modern life that those seeking protection bear the brunt of anti-immigration sentiment, when in actual fact they constitute such a small proportion of people coming in. The real issue lies with the level of immigration itself.

Why in the feck are the govt paying anyone nearly half a million a year for any job?

They shouldn't have been paying him that much at Nama either.

He's got his nose in at the top end of the trough. These cnuts are great at just making up jobs and salaries for people when it suits them.

This lad is getting paid more than twice as much as the British PM.

These numbers are pure insanity. https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2025/0519/1513583-asking-prices-rent/

The findings indicate the latest increase is one of the largest in any three months in the last two decades, with average prices reaching €2,053 per month.

The figure is up from a low of €765 in 2011, and 48% higher than just before the outbreak of Covid-19.

if anything it's slightly undercooking it. I was paying 400 a month when I moved back to Dublin in 2010. Same spot now is like 1300 for a room.

Just glad we all voted FFG back in to handle it appropriately, right?

I am astounded at small rural house prices. Everything is selling at about 60% above asking price.

Sell your 3 bed in Dublin for 800k that you paid the mortgage off years ago and you basically can spend whatever you want on a nice bungalow for your retirement.

Plenty of rich yanks coming over too.

Yanks out!

I'm in a bit of a bind. My house is not quite at the Dublin prices and is in the brackets above small rural cottages but the grant available to renovate them has blown their prices up disproportionately as far as I can can see.
