How can he want out when he's penalised his own team for half a season with his ban?
Doesn't scream good team guy does it.
He's been in the press several times disrespecting Brentford. Generally seems like a bit of a big time charlie.

I think Højlund’s arrival has killed this one.

Spurs could be in the market for him though.

I think I'd still take a crack at him, even if it's a loan. I don't think he'll leave for the money they want in the next window and his comments have given them reasons to not keep him around.

Why can't we have 2 strikers? Unless you're talking from a financial point, we are taking some risk with Hojlund and hoping he carries the team with goals.

They’re going to want a little bit more than the £0 we have to offer

Hard pass.

Quite clear from his antics that he's a complete tosser and the wrong type of player you want at the club.

Let him go to spuds.

I’m sure there was a video going round a year or two ago where he was pissed up on holiday and some girl had a phone in his face telling him to say “feck Brentford” and he happily obliged.

I reckon he'd make a great rotational option for us. No chance of us signing him though - it's too sensible.

He would be perfect for us. Guaranteed goals and allows us to rotate without suffering in quality. Probably would be happy sharing his minutes too. Also would be a great foil for Rashford.

We can have two strikers absolutely but Toney is going to want to be first choice as is Højlund. I can’t see a scenario where having spent £64m on Højlund the club also then spends around the reported £60m on Toney and then has two possible starters fighting it out.

Far more likely is that a club in need of a striker like Chelsea or Tottenham come in for him as I don’t see Toney being content with sharing that starting role.

Martial's contract runs out at the end of the season so we'll need someone
Agreed we will but I don’t see it being Toney.

Potentially good striker, but a right twat, and that's even ignoring the betting issues.

Aside from his betting issues, he has twice been caught on video being insulting to Brentford. I'm not sure that paints a picture of a great character.

And beyond that, while he's a very good player, he isn't an elite striker and at his age isn't going to suddenly turn into one. His general play is good, but his goal returns for Brentford have been heavily inflated by penalties and minutes.

At the price I assume we'd have to pay for him (Brentford reportedly have a £60m asking price), I'd be surprised if there weren't better options elsewhere. Be it cheaper or with greater potential than Toney possesses.

Given everything that's going on at the club right now, attitude and behaviour have to be top of our list when buying players. That just rules out Toney for me.

If I was Arsenal, Id be breaking the bank for him. Not as good but got a bit of Ian Wright about him.....

Normally I wouldn't care, Ole supported Liverpool as a kid, but him talking about his support for Liverpool in that recent interview put me off. I know it's childish as well, it just did. Not often pros in their prime talk about their love for specific clubs.

Yeah lets buy someone with a gambling addiction so severe they're just served half a season ban for it. Not like we have enough problems at the club already, we need more!

This forum is somewhat obsessed with benching new signings. I see it all time in new signing / potential signing threads, “would x player be happy sitting on the bench” etc etc

Toney would be #1 I would think considering his PL experience. It was said EtH wanted 1 experienced striker and 1 up and coming striker. So, in my view they can learn off the experienced striker & playing a few games here and there.

Considering Toney’s multi-year PL experience, there’s no doubt in my mind he’d be number 1 striker if he were to join. Hojlund would be on the bench and play mostly cup games & work his way into the team, but considering Hojlund joined in the summer and would likely be playing every game now, would be incredibly harsh to drop him to the bench if Toney came in. Would be tough to juggle & keep both players happy!

He’s indicated in an interview recently arsenal would be his club of choice. Can’t remember the exact word selection but seemed like he was angling for a move there.

Question marks over his attitude with the disrespect he’s showing Brentford and of course the betting ban. Think we should stay clear. We have enough drama right now.

Yeah I heard that that too. He said that he was a Liverpool fan as a kid but he also really liked Arsenal.

I think he's a decent player but actually think he's overrated to be honest.

Don't think he's worth the 70 or 80 million personally.

Brentfords most important player IMO is Mbeumo. Plays right wing or upfront so would actually be perfect for our squad........ As always though, it's just too much of an obvious signing so we will chase left wingers and shiny toys.

He's another Rickie Lambert/ Danny Ings sort of player. Good, but never gonna be good enough for us, and he's getting on a bit. If we signed him I'd be shocked but there again we had Weghorst up front for us last season, and Ighalo not long before so who knows anymore.

In yester years he would be a backup for us, but ATM the likes of him, Watkins etc would elevate us/ at least be a rotation option given we somehow only have a 20 year old as a proper striker.

We need a second option and someone that can play alongside too at times so I'd say it's very much open.
We certainly need another striker, be it in January or the summer when Martial leaves.

But even still, that doesn't mean it makes the most sense for that striker to be a B-tier 27 year old who still costs £60m.

Which isn't to say he wouldn't be decent, because he would. But it's a lot of money to pay for "decent". Especially when it comes with obvious signs of attitude issues.

Are you serious? He's far more mobile than Lambert and tougher to get off the ball than Ings. Not saying he should be 1st choice but he's an all-round CF who's already proven he can play in a fairly technical team as well as causing physical issues for traditional defenders. and in the PL league too. Incomparable as a finisher with Weghurst (at least for the PL). And 27 is old now? With sports science, Benzema playing some of his best football for RM at 34, Lewandowski likewise at Bayern (or at least 33) etc...

He's not good enough for Manchester United, it's really that simple. Not as a backup. Not as anything.

He is 27? Has a good 5 years in him and for all this "Sign the kids and have him in that position for 12 years", it never happens. Who was the last kid we signed that was a mainstay in our team for at least 8/ 10 years?

Both of our full backs?

@Baxquux

Putting aside the age thing, which to me is important as it shows that Toney is unlikely to improve, does a guy going to casinos after games strike you as the professional type and the sort to play late into his 30's?

And ironically given what you say, I remember the last time we had a choice between two elite strikers to sign in a summer - Robin van Persie and Robert Lewandowski. Yes we signed van Persie and won the league - brilliant and all but with hindsight over the two careers, who would have been the better signing in the grand scheme of things?

But it's all moot, the only way we'd ever sign toney is on loan at best as a backup, which would probably be OK if that's as much as we expected. The prices being mooted on here - millions upon millions - we simply don't have to waste on backups.

If Fergie was still our manager yes I’d gamble on him (no pun intended) I’ve really liked him since the Championship. He seems like the wrong sort of character to throw into the mix here right now though. We need more fighters and industry not flash and negativity.

He's a very good player. I think he is off to Arsenal though based off that interview. Brentford expect him to leave and I doubt he'd of said something if it wasn't in the pipeworks.

We could do with him. It's not fair on Hojlund to expect solely on him.
