Doesn't his contract end in 2025 ? With 1 year remaining, how much exactly would you expect next summer? Genuine question. Don't think there would be a bidding war. Chelsea, Liverpool, City and Newcastle are all set . Spurs isn't paying you any exorbitant fees.

If I was a betting man I would bet my ass in him not coming here, I think it's even a safe bet.

anyone that watched today clearly can see we still badly need a CF....Rashy is so much better on the outside

come january we definitely need to go in for this lad...he's the right age and fits the right profile for what we need up front

Wouldn't mind Signing Toney in January, he's a solid custodian to the striker spot, who will score goals and provide good forward play in the event hojlund doesn't hit the ground running, but not such a megastar that his nose may be put out of joint in the event hojlund explodes into superstardom.

He maybe the Vardy. An underdog who moved up the lower leagues to play in the PL and never played internationally underage.

Would love him here. He’s quality and proven in the league. Højlund cannot and should not start every game and Martial is Martial.

Well my suspicion has been for some time the whole bidding process was done to get the value of the club changed. That way they could leverage the clubs value more.

For a backup striekr he would cost too much, for the system we play not sure either, he's not a player who will be willing to press hard, and we desperately need to work on that aspect of the game.

Agree with you. Too costly for that backup role.

On top of that he's a handful but isn't a great athlete. A one paced striker never feels right at United.

This forum loves a “backup player”

What gives you the impression that arguably in the top 3 strikers in the prem is a “backup” for Man Utd?

The £65 million striker we've just signed.
So?

We “complain” about relying on a 20yr old and then turn our noses up at an experienced strike, who, might I add, EtH allegedly wanted alongside an up and coming striker to bed him in

Well one of them has to be the backup. No club rotates its number 9 each week.

And Toney isn't good enough to start for Manchester United.
Toney was outstanding last season for Brentford and would have made the England squad for the World Cup....he's more than good enough to start for United and he would start over that french waste of human space Martial

Well its all opinions but for sure being more useful than Martial means next to nothing.

The question should be, if you think he'd be first choice, is Ivan Toney good enough for a team looking to win the Champions League. That's the level we should be looking for in a player.

He's 27 and hasn't kicked a ball in Europe. So to say he's more than good enough for that level seems like a very optimistic stretch.

Yeah I believe he's good enough to step up,could see it a bit like when Yorke came to us from Villa. Having said that I am not convinced we will have any interest in signing him

Yes, he's good enough to be a first- reserve striker (in terms of his general attributes; the goal tally being part penalties is itself misleading in terms of his value). But he's also going to be very pricey. We need to start becoming cleverer in spotting younger players with the right technical and physical qualities who can be shaped - Hojlund is one (pricy) attempt to do this, but we also ought to be looking into South American market more fully, even if permit issues may partly determine who an be brought in there, as well as some of the second rung of national leagues below the 'big 4', however you define that. Even there, of course, certain clubs are almost possible to extract a fair deal from, so we need to box smart.

Would have to be a hell of a step up at 27 after only two seasons in the top flight. Can't think of a comparable.

Yorke had been in the top flight for 8 years despite coming from Trinidad before we signed him.

On top of that just watch him. He lacks mobility, his technical level is just ok. It's why he's spent most of his career in the lower levels. Good for him to reach the level he has but he's never a starter for one of the worlds top clubs.

we missed the chance of getting the first choice striker in Kane but we couldn't afford him nor would Spurs sell him to us.

There aren't many top flight strikers out there we can purchase at the moment....this kid did well for Brentford enough so to force his way into the England squad. He's more experienced than Hojlund and prior to the suspension was clearly playing better than Martial.

As much as we struggle to score, we need to find another option up top but that window is closing quickly

all taht said, i agree with @croadyman in that i just don't see us making a move for him now or in january

Apparently he wants a move to a top club in January or next summer. I think going for him would make a lot of sense. We need more than Hojlund. How much would Brentford demand? I assume he’d be up for the move to Old Trafford

Even if you bought him in January it would be 2-3 months before you’d see the best of him.

They'd ask for a lot. I doubt very much we'll go for him.

He seems like a bit of an idiot, hardly the profile we'll be looking at bringing in what with all the off-field issues we're having.

Not to mention, hardly anyone has two expensive centre forwards in the squad because both want/need to play and that can't really happen. The CF back-up is usually an ageing/youth team player who is okay with limited play time, or someone like a wide-forward who can do a job.

That would be swell.

We've already got two possible sex offenders, adding in a gambling degenerate would certainly help team morale.

Wonder if Vinnie Jones is available we need a DM

he's back in training with brentford but yeah he wants out....while i think he'd be a really good option for us considering our need for another CF, we have multiple holes that need to be addressed starting with right wing

How can he want out when he's penalised his own team for half a season with his ban?
Doesn't scream good team guy does it.
