Can't see him staring this game. Should be on the bench and will play a part if we are looking for a goal late in the game. I can see us playing one main striker in RVP and then Rooney either in the whole or shoved out wide if Kagawa plays. If Hernandez is starting it would mean playing two strikers up top which I don't think will in this game.

He is very likely to start in the game after Madrid though as we look to rotate and keep people fresh for the second leg.

I actually think he might be the token 'Fergie surprise'. Madrid play a really high line when they're at their best, and he could be a serious deterrent/danger for that.

Not sure how you justify dropping RVP though. And don't think you can play all 3 at the start, unless Rooney is truly in a midfield role.

I've heard a few people say he should start (ahead of RvP) because of his pace on the counter, ability to turn quickly and shrug off defenders and the fact that 9 times out of 10 he only needs a half chance to score. Valid points but I can't see anything other than RvP starting and Chicha possibly coming off the bench at some point.
Can it even be imagined what the match day forum would be like on here if we didn't start Van Persie?

I dont watch Real these days, but if they play to Mourinho's tactics, I doubt they'll play a high line that often really. Especially in big games.

Brave prediction, could see it though!

In the last CL final against Barca he was terrible, constantly offside and out of his depth. Warranted it's a different situation and that was a terrible game for pretty much everyone involved. It was his last big European game against top opposition though.

However he's a different, more rounded player, these days. Think he could have a big impact off the bench... all depends on how the tie goes though, perhaps the Home leg will be his time.
I don't think he ever start on any of our league big games. And on that final against Barca, he's the worst player on the pitch.

But it's strange that he couldn't get any minute against Everton, if he won't play tomorrow. Fergie mind games, eh?

Rooney on the left, rvp as cf and Hernandez up top?

I don't think we'll be sitting back when away in Europe, we need at minimum one away goal if not more, even if it means losing the game 2-1/3-2. However I don't think Hernandez will start, I think it'll be Welbeck, Rooney and RVP.

If we go one down, he'll come on. If we're winning, he won't. The only situation in which I don't know whether or not he'll come on is if the score is stuck on 0-0. If we bring him on, then Fergie sends a clear message.

Surprised he didn't feature, thought he would have been useful in place of Welbz later in the game. Real seemed most open with the deep ball in the channels - which he is typically very good at.

Worryingly - and unreliable as ever but he's fairly well followed United poster:

Spoke to an ex Utd player after the game tonight and he says that Chicharito is not happy at his playing time and is considering his future

Bullshit, he's perfectly happy, it's clear as day from his demeanor.

I love the kid but didn't think tonight's game would have suited him.

So someone in California spoke to an ex-United player after the game and that makes it concrete? Also why would any ex-United player know how Chicharito feels? Bollocks, he's a humble young man who is happy to be here.

I want to see him get some runs at that clown Ramos, I reckon he could embarrass the gobshite.

Would have been good late on in the game with Madrid playing such a high line. Though would have meant RVP would have had to drop deeper to accommodate him, so we would have lost that target man to hold the ball up. In the end I think SAF was more inclined to take the 1-1 score into the second leg instead of putting Hernandez on and going for a second goal while risking conceding as well.

If we had better control of the midfield tonight, I think he would have had a bigger chance to come on.

Had a bit of an average game in the first half and struggled a touch (a couple of people getting on at him in the match day thread, but at the end of the day, sometimes some players simply have off days). Came out in the second half and picked it up much more, finally got some good service in the box and got a goal. No matter how good or bad he's playing, he's ALWAYS dangerous, ALWAYS stretching and worrying the opposition defence.

Also rubbished the claims that he cant shoot from outside the box (not sure why the muppets still claim stupid stuff like this), had two cracking strikes from outside the box, one with his right and one with his left, two top class saves to deny him. A lovely dribble for the first strike too. Worked his ass off as per usual too.

He had a quite poor game in truth - looked lazy and uninterested at times. Only offside once or twice. Well taken goal, mind.

This whole "Hernandez has no build up play" is a lazy myth. He's not half bad when you actually watch him.

Good second half performance and got another goal. Brilliant player to have in the squad.

He's just going to keep getting better, that's the most exciting thing. He''s rubbished the myth that he can't shoot from distance. Some cracking strikes.

What i like about him is when he gets a chance in the box it usually ends up in the back of the net....if not the minimum is a shot on target.

For me truly world class.

I'm glad you have come to this realisation. Imagine trying to convince your mates of this for years and they still reject the notion let alone the possibility.

Hernandez is going to be a top player.

A world class poacher anyway, but in a couple of years he'll be a far more complete act IMO.

I think he's always going to be an Inzaghi, will occasionally run teams ragged from the start but more often than not he'll come off the bench and make the real difference. Just hope he's satisfied with playing less but competing for all the top honours.

It's almost a bit of a shame that United don't have a tight robust midfield platform him to be a complete poacher. He has to play build up, link up and track sometimes and it's not in his comfort zone.

Love the guy though - 10 years ago he'd have been an absolute nightmare to play against. This day and age where athletic ability has raised the bar so high that only the really extreme talents stand out has put an end to those pure poachers.

It's a credit to his ability and his determination. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

That is a poor choice of words. However he got absolutely nothing off the referee. At one stage he was physically pushed to the ground and nothing was given.

I think he would to be honest. At least whilst he's still learning. His all round play is improving.

He looks so happy when he scores and is so likeable. He'll definitely become a legend here and I can't see why he'd want to go elsewhere.

Magical Manchester United.
15 goals in 1676 minutes in all competitions this season... he's lethal. 47 goals in a little over 2 1/2 seasons, coming off the bench in 42 of his 107 appearances, is fecking fantastic.

Two completely different players with the same outcome...noice.

Chico is a hero! He has 47/107 in a United shirt and very impressively ammased 9/22 in European football. Never gonna be easy coming from a club like Guadalajara and having to not only adapt to English football...but English weather. If the boy had been snapped up by a Spanish team - can you imagine the return he'd have built up (Mr Rossi springs to mind).

Yes, he will play second fiddle for a few years but look at it this way... 25 this year with RVP turning 30 and Roo turning 28. He is gonna be around for a long time and this makes me a very happy bunny

Sadly, I can see him leaving before then Gaeilge. The amount of respect I'll have for him if he stays patient would be infinite, but I just can't see it and I don't blame him.

Everyone has one chance, and I wouldn't be surprised if he decided that he doesn't want to spend a couple of years or so being the super sub with the odd starting spot.
