Just went through an article on SkySports. I haven't watched the post match conference, I suppose the comments were made during. Here are the quotes:

"I didn't see the first goal. I was speaking with Jesse Lingard because Lingard was going to be the next player to come on."
"I saw the ball in the net and all the guys jumping around. It was the first time I saw the crowd. They were very quiet."
"It was easy to know that was a goal because it was the first time I really understood the stadium was full."

I am not from Manchester, not from England and I've been to the stadium once. Yes, I have my volume on tv higher than usual when I watch the game, but it is hard to tell how's the atmosphere. However I heard a couple of times chants dying out - like the Zlatan chant, which I don't even get why were people chanting, when he probably wasn't even in the stands.

I would like to hear what those, who've been on the stadium, think.

For large part of the game they were. Even through the terrible audio of my stream I could hear players shouting on the pitch over the crowd.

Got better after we scored and Leicester broke out of their own half.

I watched the game on TV. Heard the away fans singing early on, but it felt like they got drowned out after that. Of course, TV coverage depends where the microphones are I suppose.

I haven't been to a homegame for about 5 years now so I can't comment from a personal perspective, but my brother's a season ticket holder in the Stretty and he claims the opposite. According to him the atmosphere was dire until we got the breakthrough, which is pretty much standard going for a game at Old Trafford.

I've always preferred aways when watching United, the atmosphere is on another level. Say what you like about the cockney's but I've always found our London support to be extremely vocal.

Leicester atmosphere was much better than many last season. City in the sky got repeated airings, which IMO is generally a sign the fans are in a good mood.

The ground got tenser as we went longer without scoring but it was never quiet. Plus Lukaku was backed in song by the fans after the penalty miss, loads.

Mourinho's red army and something good got sung a lot too, which makes Mou's comment a little on the cheeky side.

I agree with this. I've been to games both sober and pissed. You don't remember half the game when pissed! 3 or 4 pints beforehand is best. But sometimes a person just wants to focus on the game. It can be tiring and distracting if you're constantly having to stand up to give your best rendition of Mariah Carey for 90 minutes. The players do have to spark the crowd into life at times.

I was in the north-east quadrant and didn't think the atmosphere was as bad as mourinho made out, so am a little surprised by his comments. I couldn't here the away end at all due to the constant noise generated by the home fans so am equally surprised by the comments about how the Leicester fans were louder than us.

Mourinho is right sometimes about the crowd but is wrong about yesterday's game. At least around me, the crowd got behind the team and especially tried to lift the team after the penalty miss, you'd have thought that we scored it.

I worked as a steward part-time when I was in uni. I think we have to fundamentally change the way we see fans at games and how they support their team.
The majority of fans can't get themselves to start singing and chanting. For them, it would be like singing at a cinema.
It's a culture that's slowly dying. They want to watch the game.
Most of the ground I worked at, the fans were explicitly forced to sit. It's simply to hard for stewards to do that, so i cant see safe-standing changing much.

It's an issue with the entire league. The debate has been had many times and as much as we hate it, the match 'experience' is not what it was decades ago.

Promoting ultras like they have in the Italian league would introduce a much needed spark in our crowds. Sometimes fans just need to take the initiative to organize such groups and the rest of the crowd will pick up.

I don't get why the Ultras culture hasn't picked up so much in the league. It's probably due to rising ticket costs but apart from that I don't know.

People still sing the cantona song. It doesn't matter whether the player is there.

Most big modern football stadiums are crap for atmosphere. The more corporate fans you give seats to the worse it will be.

Someone i know has a season ticket about 30 rows back halfway between the tunnel and dugout. They have to move for CL games for corporate fans. Which means a very signifiacnt parts of the south stand is corporate fans for CL.

Absolute horseshit. No wonder the stadium sounds quiet. Its full of people after a free lunch.
