Jose Mourinho joins Sky Sports

I still like him. No doubt he deserved to sacked and did make some bad signings. He still was our most successful manager over the last 7 years.

Him saying he was crying for a central defender. He was allowed to buy two for what were considerable amounts of money for CBs at the time. It's his fault that not a single of the two CBs we bought were boot good enough for him. Both were purchased for fees you'd expect to be starters for the team.

Exactly and then turn around and say you want another £80 million plus add ons to replace you first mistakes.......

Shame that the state of journalism is so poor in sports punditry. Would love to see Carragher or Neville challenge him on that and ask what he thought of Bailly and Lindelöf.

I can't even stand Neville now. Prefer listening to Carra. But you're right, they wouldn't dare.

You accept that Lindelof and Bailly does not work as a partnership, Bailly is injury prone and Lindelof is weak in the air. He identifies the fix and then the board deny him, only to sign the same player the next summer.

Or maybe the deal couldn’t be done last year for many reasons including Woodward is an inept negotiator?

Yes Jose Mourinho was right about a lot of things and the board was shite and still is shite.

Then he should have sucked it up and behaved professionally like the other 99.9% of the worlds managers instead of throwing a hissy fit and begging to be fired while giving no shit to the club, fans or it’s history whist today admitting he deserved to be fired but still has nut jobs supporting him.

Jose's a pussycat compared to Conte.

Conte set us up like San Marino at The Ethiad just to prove a point.

So wasn’t the problem with the team associated with the lack of fitness and under a Solskjaer pre season this would turn into a dynamic, fast high attacking pressing? Maybe the problem was bigger than that, really easy to come with magic solutions, the problem is how you solve it.

Even Klopp and Pep would struggle with this team.
The real strength of those managers, and the majority of the top managers like Sir Alex and Jose, is identifying players and building a team.

Pep struggled in his first season until he spent £200m on a new back 5. Luckily he already had Aguero, Sterling De Brune etc in attack. Klopp has completely changed Pool around with some excellent signings (and obviously then getting them to play well in his system). Mourinho at both his Chelsea spells, at Real signed very well. His Porto team obviously had some top players.

I believe if we'd have signed Jose after SAF retired we would've done well. He signed Diego Costa, Fabregas, Felipe Luis and Willian in his first summer back - an excellent crop of players. When he came to us he started well - Pogba, Ibra, Mkhitaryan and Bailly - all of them contributed to our EL win. It's just Mourinho has a tendency to burn out after his second season - and that combined with injuries and to Ibra and some and a lack of signings after the 2nd season saw us not go anywhere.

We were always going to struggle under Ole. The managers from the promoted teams like Chris Wilder has more pedigree than Ole has. Oles signings have strengthened our back line, but as a team we've weakened in attack. The only way to get out of this mess is to spend £300m+ on some top attacking players, but to do that effectively you need a manager like Klopp or an energised Mourinho. You need to be looking at the next Manes, the next Salah - and making a call as to whether the £50m you spend on them will end up a bargain. I'm talking about the likes of Ismaili Share, Nicholas Pepe, Malcolm, Lemar - wide players that could improve us, but really top managers will know which to get and how to get the best out of them. The fact that the only attacking player Ole signed was a youngster from the Championship is a testament to how underqualified he is - our attack is laughingly bad with a 21 year old Rashford being the best player. Thought tbf, Mourinho had ample opportunity to improve it to and the only player he signed in his last year was Alexis Sanchez.

I wonder if all those who wanted Jose out are having second thoughts now. He is still available.

Have always known this was the endgame for Mourinhistas. We don't want him back. Thank you

No. He's a snake oil salesman at this point who has built an effective cult of personality around himself. How self-respecting fans can still like him after the Sevilla debacle is beyond comprehension.

After he took £35 million in wages, spent £400 million on wank and took a £30 million pay off. He’s like a footballing Robin Hood for the ages.
If the fans had believed him and turned on the mgmt, we'd be in a different position now. But no, there was the constant drumbeat instead that we'd just get a new manager and all these players would come good.

The summer the club decided not to back him for the CB he wanted then the club should part way with him. Mourinho is not the only one at fault for what happened last season. After another 200m investment this summer the result doesn't improve much so it can't be all down to the manager.

Yeah if he had free reign he'd spend over 600million and we'd still be playing ultra defensive football against the likes of Bournemouth we'd still be crap and he'd come out saying it's never his fault it's the players and that he needs another 200-300 million so he can replace those players he already bought...

He played a big part in our missing top 4 and having a limited budget in the summer.. our net spend was around 80m. 130m of that investment you refer to went to the defense, which has improved this season.

The person who's having second thoughts is Ed Woodward, he's thinking I should just have bought him, Maguire. :(

This, I couldn't stand Jose at the end but this is just unprofessional. We had a net spend of 30M the season after making 2nd. No ambition, negligence.

I would want the 2017/18 version of De Gea which was the main reason for the higher point total and finishing 2nd.

Its quite funny if you think about it. How anybody actually believed Ole would do a better job than one the most successful managers ever even in decline.

Ole was supposed to be a stop gap. It was a well established plan to use Ole as a interim then grab a Poch / someone more established. Back fired as soon as he was given the permanent appointment.

Tell me one thing that hasn't backfired since Woodwards in charge. Serious question.

He wanted Alderweireld actually. Maybe Maguire was also in his list, but it was definitely the older veteran that he pushed for. Jose fans just keep banging on about the one year later bit because of what he said in the studio.

Defender or not Jose needed to go but that transfer window put us back a bit. If they lost faith in Jose and decided not to back him he should have been sacked instantly.

That's true, and we may never know the full details of what happened behind the scenes.

It’s easy to sit here when it’s not going well with Ole to say Jose should have never been sacked. I’m still really sad it didn’t work out and yesterday’s performance was as bad as any under Jose.

Well at least the toxic one is out of our club. Shame he's kicking about in punditry, probably because he can't get a job in management. Hopefully he fecks off at some point

Let's not forget Baily was a 15M punt, and lindelof was 30M which was peanuts.

No shit that an 80M maguire does the job for ole, we're basically listing the top 10 defender in EPL and bought the one's available at any cost. It's like we're buying Messi and claim the manager has a great eye for talent

I can tell none of those 2 weren't his first choice defender, we know Jose Mourinho always prefer an experienced CB with age around 26-32 and would definitely be more expensive

Mourinho was obviously a dream for rival fans. He played the role of pantomime villain to perfection and probably aggravated the fans with his evil even more than Moyes' buffoonery did.

Fans having completely unrealistic expectations didn't help him though. I've never seen an overperforming team get as much criticism for failing too keep up with the most convincing champions in the history of the league. It was just ridiculous.

He was sabotaged by Woodward though. He overperformed to get 2nd place, was handed a new contract in January, then four months later no longer has enough confidence in him to back him in the market. And besides this he was held back on a number of points. Yes, he would have perfected the cliché of himself if given free reign, by selling shaw, Martial and Pogba and replacing them with Perisic, Alderweireld, Willian and other old players but I still think you'd be better as a team if mourinho had been given full control than where you are now.
There is no chance of anything more than a flukey good season for you as long as Woodward remains in charge.
