Jose Mourinho's press conference - West Ham (A) : 14:00 BST

Mourinho on Pogba training-ground situation
“Exactly that,” Mourinho said. “That’s exactly that, I think Paul told that in one of his appearances in the famous mixed zone and is exactly, he is correct. Is a good relation, player manager.

“No, I cannot tell you [what was said]. The training session was open, you had some cameras with some potential to get some of the words, maybe you have to change the potential if you want to know everything that is said because I’m not going to comment, it was a conversation.
Parabolic mics incoming.

Disruptive week?
“Disruptive? I think for you was amazing because you made a story, an incredible story out of 15 minutes of open training session, maybe is your fault [Karen Shotbolt, the press officer], we should have 15 minutes of training session open because what happened the other day happens many days, conversations with players I have many, many, many times.

“Was not the case but loud critic, loud instruction happens every day, coaching is about that but you make story about it, so I’m happy the rules are only 15 minutes once a month and situations like that are not going to change, there is no chance you will watch a session.”

I wonder how many are running over to the match day line-up thread to put Pogba back in.

Club reputation
“Manchester United is bigger than anyone and I have to defend that.”

This actually made me chuckle a bit, considering his own outbursts at times.
Yes, Michael Jackson's 'Man in the Mirror' could play over the top of that sentence on loop.

The questions should be about how a Championship side was able to come to OT and boss the game.

Thankfully we don't have to wait long for our next game, there's no hiding on the field.

“I have to train as always, I don’t care about the cameras. What confrontation?”

He means himself by "Manchester United" of course. Because Pogba was criticising him, not the club.

And of course Pogba will play. He is literally our sole creator, Jose has no choice.

"It's our football heritage to lose to minnows in cup games, MK Dons, Middlesbrough in 2015 to name a few"

No one outside of us fans cares about that, the media didn't even rip us much on that defeat or the manner of it, they were too busy writing stories about Barcelona transfers and Instagram posts. I imagine Mourinho is actually quite happy with this drama as it deflects from the fact we've been outclassed at home two matches in a row by a newly promoted team and a Championship team managed by a guy who has a total of 10 games under his belt as a manager, period.

If only he had felt this way after going out in the Rof16 instead of mocking the club's history and 'heritage' to defend himself...

I knew he wouldn't bring the meltdown some were expecting, he knows he's in the last chance saloon and he's given the perefect answer to every question, once we sack him he should run for President of Portugal as you wont see smoother media work than that, it was as good as it gets under the current strain.

Indeed. Whatever his current ability (or lack thereof) as a coach, he's generally unrivaled when it comes to this kind of stuff.

As Guardiola once said: "In this [press] room, he is the puto jefe, the puto amo – the f*cking boss, the f*cking master,” Guardiola insisted. “And I don’t want to compete with him for a moment."

This will leave so many people desperately disappointed.
Only the gullible, Mourinho is many things, stupid isn't one of them, he's played a blinder politically this season, he wasn't going to ratchet things up further when he knows West Ham will be a difficult game with or without Pogba, logical self preservation is what we are seeing.

Mourinho is not self defeating. This is a decades old professional who will not punish the team because he is upset with someone.
The onus is now on the player to perform.
I agree but there were a lot of people saying he'd be dropped in that thread.

How do you work that out? He's answering questions put to him on the topic and answering in the most defusing way possible.
He'd already written that comment before the press conference started. Why even bother engaging?

Anyone disappointed with his answers so far is just looking for drama. I want him replaced as I don't think he can take us any further, but his answers here have been sensible.

Sounds like a good press conference but the team need to do the talking on the pitch.

He always talks well, I just wish it translated out on the pitch. Let's hope the boys come out firing as we badly need a win.

Fergie said the same thing and I remember when he had the spat with Conte there were a couple of Italian managers warned Conte he was out of his depth taking Mourinho on in this medium.

Jose is right that no player is bigger than club, no manager is either. He's made such a mess and lost control in general.

“I can anticipate more questions by saying the relation of player manager is good, is not anymore a relation, captain or whether the captain’s manager, the relation is good, nobody trained better than Paul Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, nobody trained better than him, some trained as well, but nobody better. And tomorrow he plays, so end of the story.”

Jose said what he said in front of the cameras to deflect attention from the shambles he put out to play against Derby. Now the attention is away from the result he is praising Pogba again. After everything Pogba is still our best player and people want to question his attitude? He is the only WC outfield player we have and the only one who creates anything in a team full of static, ball watching, hapless B rate footballers. Even Jose knows that. On one hand he wants to show he is the boss and on the other he knows he relies on Pogbas brilliance to win games and without him in the team he will be gone by December. He needs to focus on coaching players rather than power struggles maybe then Pogba wont be telling the media we need to 'attack attack attack'.

Yes and no, the manager is the club until he isn't anymore. A couple of clubs deviate from that but not many.

Going to be especially hilarious when Pogba doesn't play tomorrow.
Nah when Jose wants to freeze a player he's going to sell the idea that the player isn't working hard or training well. He just said Pogba trained hardest
