Somewhere in Sicily an old gentleman by the name of Sarri is raising a glass at the sunset and toasting the brilliance of Kepa.

Thought the De Gea situation in EL final was the worst and quite a statistically improbable thing that could happen to a keeper in a shootout. 6 months and Kepa has it too.
I don't think it's that statistically unlikely. Goalkeepers can't practice penalties that much so once it gets to them, one of them is probably likely to miss.

So he refuses to get subbed when Chelsea played City a few years back and Chelsea lost the shootout, now the shoe is on the other foot and he was the one that go brought on and they still lose. Maybe next time just make sure he doesn't play any part and they might win a shootout.

Yes but it is statistically unlikely for it to get to them with all the penalties scored.

I just hope Spain never has to go to PK's with the current generation of Goalkeepers in tournaments.

Just shows how stupid it was for everyone to decide Henderson is rubbish at saving penalties (and Ole was right not to sub him on in the Europa final). Kepa and Henderson can both be better at saving penalties than the number ones at their clubs, despite one poor shoot-out performance.

Imagine having a guy like Mendy... and sub Kepa in! Between Lukaku and him that's 180M+ down the shitter for Chelsea.

Brought on as the 'penalty specialist', only to save 0 out of 11 pens and then take a goal kick instead of a pen  You couldn't write it

Kepa and league cup finals don't mix I guess.

Presumably sold in the summer.

To be fair to him, keepers are not expected to save penalties and I felt he was closer to them that Kelleher
Chelsea lost when they lost the toss and went second
Also, how did Liverpool manage to kick first and be in front of their fan?

I would also like to know the answer to this question…
A similar brain fart to Bruno in the EL final?

Chelsea win the toss and pick to go 2nd, Liverpool pick the end?
According to twitter there were two coin tosses and Liverpool won both.

That explains it, but not sure that's the way I'd have it set up personally.
Agree. Even just getting to go first is a big swing in one team's favour, no need to compound it by giving them the chance to win another coin toss as well.

I think he's getting a bit of an unfair time of it personally. The tactical decision was made by Tuchel to bring him on for Mendy, and he wouldn't have expected to have to step up and take a penalty. Kelleher didn't get anywhere near any of Chelsea's spot kicks.

I did find it funny that he was standing far to the right of his goal for Van Dijk's penalty, then Van Dijk went that side anyway and scored..

Weird technique for a penalty. Never a great fan of just lacing it. Says to me they haven't got that much confidence about placing it and are just hoping for the best. Good penalty takers generally don't just lash the ball in.

You for argue he's now twice cost Chelsea the EL. First when he refused to go off when Sarri wanted him against city, then yesterday when he was brought on and didn't save a single penalty and missed the decisive kick.

72 million for a GK!!!

I repeat.... SEVENTY feckING TWO MILLION!!!

The reactionary armchair experts are at it again on here.
This guy was integral to Chelsea reaching the final of this competition.
Tuchel's decision was correct no matter how much some of you would try to argue Mendy having a good match but in penalties he is just not better than Kepa stats back this as well. Just because it didn't work today then it must mean it was a bad decision...bet had he left Mendy on and Chelsea still lose then the same hive will go on to criticize Tuchel for not bringing on Kepa!
Feel for Kepa...very harsh way to lose.

He's played in the Europa League once for us and won it, winning one of his five penalty shootouts at the club on the way there.

He should have never left Bilbao.

RM had the chance of signing Kepa for free or just 20 mill euros(can't remember the exact situation) Zidane chose not to go after him. What a bullet we dogged.

He is a tool. We know it. What a waste of money, or rather, what a waste of space :(
