Personally I wouldn't be spending a penny on defenders this summer, unless we're reinvested money received on defenders that are sold. That can wait a season with our other priorities
I tend to agree but it’s obvious now Harry Maguire will be sold and they must have a seller already, probably West Ham, Spurs Newcastle or Villa they all have money and would probably spend £35/40m on Maguire, whatever we think of the player he will be rated by other teams and he’s a huge upgrade on E Dier, T Mings, etc.
United have let go of A Tuanzebe and Phil Jones and will sell Eric Bailey probably no more than £5/10m probably to Roma. So the club had a bloated squad with 7/8 CB’s now we will have 4/5with T Mengdi/ Shaw able to play there too. I think this is the only decision that Murtourgh and Arnold can make pretty easily. The wages for Maguire, Bailey, Tuanzebe and P Jones is probably £450k per week and KMJ will be signed on 200-250k per week so this is a no brainier on the balance sheet. We sign him on a 5+1 contract for £45-50m it’s £20-22.5m per year amortised fee and wages and we lose £22m per year on the wages of the 4 other players and transfers fees received should cancel out what we’ve spent. If true first great signing. Plus will not affect other transfers, we should still be fine for £100m CF, a couple of midfielders and GK. I think Rabiot is quite far down the path as well and as a free makes total sense.
