We are though.
Were.

Players are falling over themselves to go to City (Pep; success; money on and off the books), Chelsea (stupid contracts; London) where we have no bigger draw than Liverpool, Arsenal or now Newcastle, either.

Outside of Woodward era wages, players are easily swayed by other clubs where in the past, we were at least the top tier option alongside Chelsea domestically.

This isn't even factoring foreign giants: Real, Barca (still), Bayern and PSG can, and do, constantly entice talent we'd like without much fuss.

A lot has changed in these ruinous 10 years of not being a dominant force.

People in the caf seem to be talking as if he isn't coming to United - seems to me we haven't lost out yet. Has anyone actually seem him play a full game? I have no idea what he's like.

Jus becauseThe Sun says he's going to Bayern, doesn't mean he is: they are also saying the takeover deal is just days away...

I've watched every single Napoli games this season. He is the type of player that can upgrade the team to the next level on his own and it has always been this case throughout his career until now.
I hope he hasnt fully made up his mind up to go to Bayern. He is currently doing his military training. Really hope United somehow convinces him.

They've also got Tuchel who likes to play 3 at the back.
Tuchel barely played three at the back this season though,

Might be looking to though judging by their want of a CB, having said that they don't have a lot of specialist CBs.

I could be wrong but it seems like he's looking to go with a back 3, if they're looking to sign Kim.

Great plan pal. Wouldn’t be anyones fault in that case I guess. Jesus, when will we stop missing out on these potentially world class targets. The fact we have fans parroting excuses not to sign them doesn’t help.
Ok pal, well if you think Kim will come here when there's already Varane and Martinez ahead of him, as well as club captain Harry Maguire, then you've probably been playing too much Football Manager.

Bayern might lose two CBs so he'll be guaranteed game time. Plus, they've just won the league and can pay him as much, if not more, in wages.

I want us to sign him, like 99.9% of the people who have posted on this thread, but I'm just using common sense. It's not an excuse. I don't like it any more than you do, but the club aren't going to make big financial risks, like signing this guy before shifting Maguire (or Lindelof), until new owners are in place. Which, as I'm sure you've noticed, is taking an absolute age!

Also, Kim hasn't gone anywhere yet pal, so just chill out. Today some journo will probably tweet that we're back in pole position again, or that City want him to replace Laporte. Then the opposite the next day, etc etc.

People are losing their shit because out of all potential transfers this summer, this is by far the easiest to complete and possibly the cheapest too.

Bayern being so strongly linked at this stage isn't just paper talk in my opinion. We've seen this a million times, a player seems like he's going one place and all of a sudden another team comes in and picks him up quickly, just like the Ugarte deal with Chelsea and PSG.

It's still a bit early to completely lose our shit but the signs are worrying at the moment.

Playing Pavard at RB is basically playing with three at the back. Especially since Davies as LB pushes up the pitch a lot.

The PL is the big pull in world football currently - it's seen as the biggest stage in terms of a domestic league and the highest level a player can test themselves at.

Granted, Bayern, Madrid, Barca will always have a pull but I think this deal is there for the taking if we are willing to pay the fee. I don't agree that we should be stalling a CB signing until we find a buyer for Maguire. Noreason why we can't buy now and sell him later. Both he and McTominay need telling that their time is over and that they need to find new clubs if they want to play. I'm sure Maguire will want to play ahead of the Euros next summer so I'd expect him to move.

Because we might not be able to get Maguire to leave. I doubt anybody will pay his wages, so he might dig his heels in. He wouldn't be the first high profile player to do that. I want him to go, I was pretty gutted when we signed him to be honest, especially for that money. Really felt like a disaster waiting to happen. He proved me wrong at first, but unfortunately that quickly feel to pieces. I'm very much preparing myself for the fact that he might still be here next season.

It's all arbitrary anyway, because no one can even attempt to sign Kim until July with the release clause. If we really are interested then we'll probably try. Last week all the usual suspects were saying that we'd agreed terms with his agent. This week everything out of Germany is saying Bayern. Romano is yo-yoing between the two, because he doesn't really know anything and just parrots what is already out there. What's obvious is Kim has options, so he'll go with whatever appeal to him most. Unfortunately that might be guaranteed trophies and UCL football every season with Bayern. They also don't have a prolonged and uncertain takeover hanging over them or their coaching staff.

Done deal to Bayern. Either we didn't want him, don't have the money, or simply were too slow.

It couldn't possibly be a case of Bayern Munich being a slightly more attractive proposition from a sporting POV than Manchester United in 2023? If his main priority is to win trophies and go far in the CL, I know which basket I'd put my eggs in over the next five years.

Honestly, the only things making us more attractive than Bayern would be him not fancying the Bundesliga or us paying him a lot more money. We're not more likely to win trophies considering the competition and a CL is unlikely over Kim's contract length considering we're very early in the project. Plus he doesn't know who's going to own the club making the direction of the club quite unclear.

But if we offered him a £300k/w contract to fight off competition from more successful current clubs a lot of people would go "didn't we learn anything from the Woodward shambles????"

Really? Bayern had a huge fallout in champions league with mane punching, and almost didnt win the league. United have new owners coming in and are in CL too.

Not fussed over this. CBs are the lowest of our priorities for now. Also it’ll be weird if he chooses Bayern over us if both clubs are in for him. An Asian player will always choose United considering how big the Premier league and United are over at this part of the world

I think there's a good CB at OGC Nice who we should target. Jean Clair Todibo would be a shrewd move on our part and he has the technical and athletic capabilities to be a real asset both in possesion and at controlling large spaces due to his anticipation and speed.
Hopefully he's on the radar in that case.

Because United have a budget every summer and we can’t sign every player. You on the other hand are always moaning about signings on here. Take it easy mate!
We haven't signed any player and ended interest in Kane because spending too much on Mount

The only team that matters
I mean that’s blatantly untrue
Really, I must have missed the day we signed these players, Batistuta, Ronaldinho, Essien, Bale, Sneijder, Hazard, Kroos, Nedved, Gazza, Shearer -all of them actively pursued and all rejected us - United are not and never have been a big a draw for players as us fans think

It's just you keep pointing Mount deal as an obstacle to our other transfers which we supposedly have left cause of ETH's apparent obsession with Mount.
I just don't get not going big for Kane when not scoring enough goals is biggest issue, understand the reluctance with Osimhen but not someone so proven in this league

We've Varane and Martinez so any top centre half will have reservations about joining a club who've already 2 top class players in his position.

This isn’t a case of “he’s shit because we aren’t getting him” moment.

However, I did wonder how well KMJ and Martinez would compliment each other. I’m not sure it’s the best partnership tbh. Both are very aggressive front foot defenders. Both will press hard and try to steal the ball in advance of the forwards. As is expected, this can lead to gaps at the back when the pressure is bypassed. I’m not sure it’s a good balance having 2 defenders who like to do the same. Varane and Martinez work well because Varane is good at reading the play when dropping off and sweeping up any danger in behind.

I’m still gutted to lose out on him because if ETH really wanted him then who am I to know any better. However, like others have mentioned we don’t really have a history of Serie A defenders coming over to the premier league and showing the same levels of performance. However, we do see prem defenders leaving to go to Serie A and excelling.

We’ve literally signed Casemiro, Varane and Ronaldo in the past few seasons. We signed Casemiro with no Champions League football. We aren’t quiet as attractive as we were during peak the fergie era (mainly due to the lack of league titles and CL football, that will change soon though) but we definitely are still one of the biggest and most wanted clubs in the world.

I dont get why so many people are getting frustrated by this? Sometimes I feel fans just want to have a go at the club with no reasoning.

I wonder of those losing their shit, how many times they have seen him play?

Also, we as fans cant just want want want, we have to understand the situation. We are in the middle of a very frustrating takeover which doesn't seem like its moving at any speed. CB is low down in our priority at the moment and really, the only way we get a CB is if we offload Maguire first.

Why? we have a finite budget and we already have 2 starting CB and 1 decent backup in Lindelof.

We need to make sure majority of our funds are used in the ST, GK, CM area before even the CB. Why do fans not see this?

Why would the club go and spend £40/50m early in a window for a player we dont need, we can easily find a CB later in the window if Maguire leaves, its not like we need a CB that will start every game.

Yeah when this farce of a takeover saga ends
