Midfielder with limited passing range and a doubtful engine is a great pick how exactly?
In a 3 man midfield, be it one dm holder and two more creatives Mainoo will always have a role to shine. Or 4231, he can play anywhere.
Now hes confused of his nonsensical role(s) Rubén gives from time to time.

His lack of passing range is what is exposing him. He needs to improve his game if he wants to really excel no matter if thats under Amorim, another manager or at another club.

He was poor before Amorim came this season

He has a lot of talent but has clear weaknesses he needs to improve. His lack of speed can be covered if he can improve his passing. Not being able to effectively switch play is a serious hinderance to becoming a top level player.

Was a joy to watch in his break through season. Its there. Breaking lines with a couple touches finding teamates on the move forwards. Where an Ugarte would be uselles. Danger around and in the box. Quick, inteligent brain.

You will not loose that at 20y of age. More like a season hamperred by injuries, then coming back to play here and there in a strange set up. Great talent for this league. Only idiots will sell Elanga for a pittance and buy Antony for brutal money.

Yes like I said he has talent. But even last season his lack of passing range was obvious and if he wants to become to top CM he must improve this aspect of his game

Chelsea 1:0 Man Utd New
On for 10 minutes and moving like he was towing a caravan. Has the passing ambition and range of Lindelof playing midfield.

Like Sancho. He’s a YouTube reel. Hopefully we clock on whilst the stocks are high and get some decent money for him. Rather have a Caceido any day of the week.

We got worse when he came on. Take any deal going because he sure as shite should not be getting a bumper contract.

watching him run about was something else. Just so ugly to see and looked wrong honestly. If this is his physical engine now can't imagine it gets better as he gets older. Dude went to the gym and worked the wrong set of muscles to be a footy player.

Plays like he knows he is about to be sold.

Good riddance, that money is sorely needed and his lackluster attitude is not.

Think he could have a decent career in a different league, because he is solid technically.

But I don't think you could design worse physical attributes to be a midfielder in PL currently. 10, 8, 6. It doesn't matter. He just gets bullied.

He needs the mother of all late puberty growth/strength/speed spurts or he is never going to cut it in this league.

He’s just not a CM, doesn’t have the facilities for it. He either has to retrain as a in the pocket 10 who can use his quick feet to play little passes and get he shots off or I think it’d be best to sell and replace.

We’d have been better off keeping McTominay.

Ontop of having the Athletic gifts of my 80 year old Grandad he seems to be following the Rashford school of thought mentality-wise. Looks completely unbothered.

Not sure what to do with him tbh. Bit of a nothing player at this point in his career.

i mean i guess the good thing would be any decent offer for him would be financial gold for PSR or whatever it is. If we got those decent offers for him and garnacho could really see a good amount of incomings with proper scouting.

Don't like him in midfield. He has more impact closer to opposition goal, as he showed vs Lyon, FCSB for example.

We’d have been better off keeping McTominay.
McTominay was played in the wrong position for 90% of his career with us...

And in the 10% of the time he played as an AM he usually did a decent job. Didn't rely on technical ability cos he didn't have it in terms of intricate play... Just kept it simple.

But his intelligent movement and eye for goal was genuinely top class.

With all the struggles last year, how he never got a proper chance leading the line I'll never know.

God knows I wish he was starting as either the 9 or one of the 10s on Weds.

I swear McTominay keeps getting better in everyone's minds here. The guy was tragic in nearly every game he played for us.
Not tragic but it was a half hearted joke. McTominay would have been better int he 10 role now than a CM he was asked to play when here.

He's only 20 ffs. Not many players have been fully developed and dominated any league at his age.

I’d take him for that right now!

Most 20 year old athletes are starting demonstrate some of their physical attributes. Making enormous physical strides after that age is pretty unusual. And he needs enormous progression in terms of his physical attributes.

I'm not saying it won't improve. But anyone expecting him to start moving round the pitch like caicedo or kante is off their head.

Id bet my mortgage on his remaining a relatively immobile, unathletic player comparative to the players he would come up against in the PL.

Which is a shame, because he is clearly a talented footballer

He’s easily the most unathletic player in the squad. He may improve but I can’t see it being enough to cover the distance to most PL midfielders. They’ll just run him down 90% of the time.

Move him more forward permanently or move him on in another year if no improvement.

It’s crazy. He seems like a 18 year old in a 38 year old body. He moves worse than Erikson. His touch has gone to shit too.

I just fail to see the point in shitting on the young lad when he's barely played for 2 months.

Well this is the thing right. He’s not going to improve and listening to Shaun Dyce the other day.. your midfielders not doing well in a bleep test isn’t putting you in a good shape to compete unless they have the technical ability of Xavi. Not making assumptions but I’ll do it anyone. Mainoo doesn’t look like he’s finishing well in a bleep test.

No engine and no passing range, should be sent packing.
He's been like that since coming back from injury that Man City away match.
Needs to put his head down and work hard on his defensive game. Can't for sure ask for any big pay increase.

Where is the fuxking urgency with his play?
He plays like is some sort of samba game on the beach.
He can produce moments for sure but needs to seriously increase his intensity. 1-0 down 5 to go don’t be fuxking jogging around.

Its exactly that, every blue moon he pulls out a moment of brilliance, overall he looks apathetic, no desire, no urgency, no pace.
Id cash in on him.

Are Lindelof and Eriksen gone?

Meh. Xavi would look lost in this system trying to run up and down the pitch in a double pivot.

Mainoo is obviously not Xavi but it's showing more how Xavi would not fit the system and then would be asked to leave the club.

Not too bothered about him looking out of it because Amorim hasn't improved anybody.

Mainoo will be better under our next manager 100%.

It’s difficult to fathom his drop-off. Kids will do that, though. But it’s hard to understand this is the player who looked a born star for Ten Hag as a 6, as an 8, as a 10, and for Southgate in a 3-5-2.

Can't remember another young player having such a big drop off from one season to the next. How can a 20 year old look less athletic than Casemiro? So sad.
