So Perez pushed the Super league story cause they're in financial trouble and now they're spending 150 million on Mbappe.
Can someone explain this to me.
Real Madrid haven't paid a transfer fee in two years and have made 178m in the transfer market. If they buy Mbappe they'll have a net spend close to zero.
Presumably, without the losses from coronavirus they'd have a net spend closer to -150m or something.

So they're not in financial trouble?

As for Mbappe he doesn't want to play with Messi, he wants to be a top dog. That's a strong mentality but could cause him problems in the long run.
Real was never in financial trouble. Look at their net spend over the last 3 years. They have been saving up for this.

I've no idea if they're in financial trouble. Normally I'd say spending €180m isn't in trouble, but see Barca.

How do losses from corona effect your net spend?

So Mbappe leaves, do PSG go for Pogba then?
Lets hope so and lets hope its alot of money. After all if PSG can get Madrid to pay €180mil for Mbappe with 1 year left on his contract, maybe we can get €80mil from PSG for Pogba.

That would weaken us for this season though.

And we spend that Pogba money on Rice. Not a fan of Rice, but not a fan of Matic.

So it's bollocks then? Thought so.
Yup, they factored in transfer fees as "savings" in their financial summary, without those, they'd have been 100M+ deep in extra debts. And that's not even taking into account the stadium expenses :

Would be nice to see one of the Worlds best players leave an oil club to play for a Club where winning actually matters and in a competitive league.

I will feel bad for Pochettino though, If he doesn't get a replacement. Messi was bought to play alongside Mbappe and if that doesn't happen, their attack will not be as formidable.
Like if you cry every time :(

Yeah that can't be counted towards a transfer net spend and if you try to make it so, that's a hell of a reach.
The question was "how come Real Madrid claimed they are in financial trouble yet are spending money on a player." The answer is "they've cut down spending so they can afford this one player."

Except that wasn't what was said. What was said was...

Nonsensical.

I don't know what you're not understanding about the phrase. If Real Madrid had not lost money due to coronavirus, they would have more money. They would then go spend that money on players.

Yes I agree. Far better for him to leave the ‘oil’ club and play for the one built by fascism and Spanish banks instead.

I dont understand, if RM is so confident that Mbappe wants to leave(as is PSG, it looks like), why not pick up Mbappe for free next season and save this transfer money for a potential Haaland-bid?

Unless, of course, Perez doesn't have much interest in Haaland, but even then, this money could be used to strengthen other areas regardless.

Something desperate about this whole thing.

I'm guessing Perez wants to make a statement signing this summer, especially after losing their famous CB duo, and watching other European clubs make Hollywood signings.

Perez has a peculiar way of spending money, 120m for Hazard and now 150m for Mbappe in the last year of their contract.

Let’s hope they have the same outcome.

There is no guarantee of success of course, but Hazard is a case of suddenly turning into glass the moment he landed in Spain, he played a lot of matches for Chelsea in the last few seasons without many issues, so its a very odd one.

Though, i guess being the most fouled player in Europe for most of last decade while not having the most professional of lifestyles eventually takes it toll.

Because there is no guarantee he's going to join them on a free next season look what happen to Messi and Barca. Players minds change all the time, their is no loyalty. Give him 6 more months at PSG, they are out there stomping everyone, and he decides to resign with PSG before January. Real Madrid look like fools and have to compete with other clubs to get Haaland. All that planning and selling players for two years completely wasted.

Curious to see how this impacts the race for Haaland next year if it goes through. Obviously PSG has more funds, but I don’t think that was ever an issue for them. Question is how much it impacts the package Madrid can offer. Madrid will do everything they can to bring him in, but have to imagine this at least slightly decreases the odds as opposed to them signing Mbappe on a free next summer window

Haaland may not want to move to French league at all. It’s a poor league with almost no true value for elites players winning French league titles. People would only judge them being a success or not if they could win CL, for which they had never won. Although they now would have a great chance winning it with such an outstanding squad.

Messi or no Messi, if Mbappe really leaves PSG has gotten worse this transfer-window.

You may want to think before you post dude. Have you seen who PSG have signed this summer? Hakimi, Messi, Wijnaldum, Ramos, Donnarumma, danilo.

Not in financial trouble in the same way as Barca are, however during the whole ESL episode, Perez made it pretty clear that Real were no longer able to compete financially with the oil state and oligarch owned clubs. It doesn't mean they don't have money. Probably in a similar boat to us in fact.

This would be a bizarre transfer if it was to happen at this time. Real Madrid, a team who are in debt to their eyeballs, spending 180m on a player they can negotiate with in 4 months to take for nothing, and Mbappe leaving a stronger team to join the worst Real Madrid squad in a long time.

Not just with Messi but Neymar too. As the junior of the three he’d have to be picking up a lot of the hard work, a bit like Messi when he first broke through. I think it reflects pretty badly on him that he doesn’t want to spend one season trying to challenge for the CL alongside those two tbh.
