When it comes to Madrid though, they have nothing to sell
According to newspapers, Madrid will hear offers for Hazard, Varane, Bale, Asensio, Jovic, Isco, Marcelo, Ceballos, Mariano and Borja Mayoral.

and no upcoming prospects from their 2nd team other than the Blanco guy who looks quite decent.
Marvin and Miguel Gutierrez also look decent. There are also a few players on loan that can make good sales or good players for the first team, like Brahim or Kubo.

On top of that, they've spent 700mil on their stadium.
Will be paid in 30 years, about 25 million euros per year, and will likely generate way more than that amount post COVID. The stadium will be an active/advantage, not a handicap.

Their rebuild would need insane money:
- replacement/backup for Modric/Kroos
Yep. but Kroos is not done yet. The club wants to recover Odegaard. Hope Valverde keeps improving. Won't be easy though.

- backup to Casemiro as he's playing 60 games a season in DM
Alaba and Blanco.

- backup/replacement for Carvajal (Odriozola is utter wank and Vasquez is very suspect defensively)
Not a big deal. Vazquez is incredibly solid as backup. Actually my main complain is Carvajal himself.

- starting striker (Benzema is alright, but he still operates better in the false 9 role than the lone striker)
- right Winger (Asensio/Rodrygo are very average)
I think Mbappe will sign. That will sort a few things upfront.

- replacement for Ramos (Even though we all know he will stay and Militao+Nacho/Varane is not a bad defensive couple )
Alaba would be one replacement. I personally would let Ramos go and renew Varane's contract. Militao is fantastic.

Madrid's financial issues are exaggerated by the anglophone press. Pérez claims of poverty are more than anything that he can no longer make wild buys a la Ronaldo or Bale and he cannot bully the state owned clubs like PSG and City.

The wildly quoted stadium deal is a bank loan payable over 30 years at 25 euros million a year including the interests . The numbers are out there in the responsible financial press. That's nothing for a club like them; that's like what you pay for an backup defender at this level.

Yes, the covid thing hit their finances, but Spain is vaccinating well enough and I expect that come next season things will be back to normal over there. They won't dominate the transfer market, but they will rebuild and continue to be relevant.
Agree mainly, It's Barcelona that are in more trouble with €265m due before June 30th before they do anything else according to reports. Bartomeu has put them in deep trouble. R Madrid has been well run in recent times, aside from the Hazard deal anyway....

There are lots of unknowns, especially around sponsorship, TV right renewal values, seasonal Covid, along with the longer term trend of football struggling to get a younger 21st century tech savvy audience. That applies to premier league clubs as well. Though the premier league hobbled the latest auction to keep the value of domestic rights for the next couple of seasons. That could be an "own goal" in my view.

Football needs to start adapting to the 21st century or financial problems get worse in future. Which is kind of what the super league was about, though it was done in a totally stupid way.

If Real Madrid win the next game they'll finish the season with 84 points.

After all the fuss about Zidane's management and tactics, the injury crisis, the ageing squad, everything, the season is basically the same as the last one if you exchange one defeat against Atalanta for one win against Levante.

Barca are done, that much is clear.

Potential 4th place finish.
2nd in CL group stages against a Juventus that isn't even making top 4 in Serie A.
Hammered at home by a PSG side that isn't winning Ligue 1.
0 wins against both title rivals the whole season or against any top opposition for that matter.

All that despite Messi still putting up 30+ goals. If he leaves this summer Barca might realistically not even finish in top 4 next season, considering that they can also not afford any proper players other than the likes of Agüero or Depay.

If Barcelona owes €265m due before June 30th, as mentioned above, is there any clause or whatnot that would prevent say a rich benefactor stepping in, paying up, and taking a percentage of the club?

Yes. They're a supporters' trust, an NPO. It would require for the socios to agree to turn the club into a PLC, which is not happening

Barcelona for sure won't be able to refinance, as most banks are already refusing them.
But they don't look that bad and they have a few options to rebuild:
- sell Coutinho, Umtiti and the other deadwood
- buy 1-3 decent players
- hope Pedri and Ansu Fati really go up a level next season

When it comes to Madrid though, they have nothing to sell and no upcoming prospects from their 2nd team other than the Blanco guy who looks quite decent. On top of that, they've spent 700mil on their stadium.

Benzema has scored around 30 goals per season after CR7 left and single-handedly carrying their attack on his back.

Real Madrid have no reason replacing a top 5 player in the world. Benzema could perform at this level for 3-4 years.

So, apprantly Barca are signing, Kun, Depay and Garcia this Summer. Anyone else got a feeling they're broke?

Watching the Madrid Villareal game Purley to see how worried I should be.
Very strong 11 Villareal have put out. Bar Carlos Bacca upfront pretty much what they'll play in the final so this won't be easy for Madrid to win at all.

Real Madrid were never keeping a clean sheet today with that backline they have out. Up to their attackers to turn around the game now.

As long as they don't give any goal in first 20 minutes think europa will be a very interesting final. Man. United favourites due to quality in final third but Villareal got some good players in most positions and Maguire injury balances things up a little more I suspect.

A title race is much more exciting when both teams are slipping up or capable of same. Prefer this to something like City/Liverpool 2 years ago.

So another handball without a penalty for Real Madrid. This can't be a coincidence anymore.
