Luka Modric

Mourinho has made a lot of bad signings in his career. I think that the bones of his Chelsea side was already in place when he got there. He then proceeded to buy some expensive tripe for them too.

He added Drogba and Carvalho. Probably the two most important signings to make Chelsea the team they were.

I'd still take him for a cut price. With our tactics all we need is a solid CM with a good passing range, which Modric is. We leave the explosive stuff to our wingers and strikers.

He'll be fine at Madrid. He's not been bad at all. But he was the best CM in the Prem playing deeper. He's good in the hole, but he's world class as a central midfield player. Once he starts playing regularly with either Alonso or Khedira, behind Ozil, then he'll be one of or the best CM in La Liga. I actually thought he'd be seen as the best by the end of the season, but the way he's been used and the what's going on at Madrid this season, it will take longer. But he's far too good to fail. He wont just be alright, he'll be their best player after Ronaldo.

Not so much Carvalho as they had Gallas already and he was as good if not better. Drogba for sure though was an inspired signing though expensive.

That poll that ranked him the worst signing in La Liga was suspected to have been rigged by Barca fans. Why do the media use this as a way to discredit the player? We all know he is a quality player, this shouldn't change anyone's opinion of the guy.

He had one very good season in the PL.

Aye. Season before last he was excellent. Mainly when paired with Huddlestone IIRC. He was still good last season though, just not as good.

He's a brilliant player, the season Spurs broke into top four he was by far their best player. Very clever on the ball and great to watch. He was also doing a lot in that Spurs team but didn't shine as much as he should have in my opinion because they didn't have good finishers or didn't profit from what he created: he was always very high in the 'chances created' stat. I didn't expect him to do well at Madrid, and it would be a mistake for him to go to Chelsea I think, but with us or City he'd be top class I think.

He's not standing out in a league that has a lot of players that are excellent technically. He's also a bit of an odd ball in the Madrid squad because he can't play Alonso's role very well, and he can't displace Khedira because the Alonso-Modric partnership is not as solid defensively as the Alonso-Khedira partnership. He's not as good as Ozil in the AM role either so he's a fairly pointless signing for them, having a player of his caliber warming the bench is never a bad thing for Madrid though.

Yea. He's not good enough as any of the current 3 starters in their role but he's probably about 2nd best at every one, that is he's the best cover for Alonso and Özil and if Khedira can't play it's best to stick him next to Alonso in most games.

Only been half a year though. No time to judge when you've only started half the games.

He's not been that bad for Madrid at all. His gametime has been somewhat limited and when I've seen him he has done what he has always done - ticked things over very well and often played the decisive pass leading to a goal scoring opportunity, whilst getting back and pulling his weight defensively.

If Mourinho is disappointed then I reckon it's because he expected a different player and thought Modric would be banging in the goals and assists, which isn't really his game.

I would still take Modric in a heartbeat. He is a similar player to Cleverley only - at this point - a polished version in their prime whilst Cleverley is still learning but has probably higher potential.

Mancini holds secret talks with Modric in one of Manchester bars.

How can you say you would take him in a heartbeat, then subsequently label Cleverley's potential as higher?

The likelihood of Cleverley reaching Modric's level is less than likely, imo. (this is of course, based on what we've seen)
