I know it's early days, or is it? Half of the season gone by and he's hardly getting a look in. I doubt a player like him is willing to sit on the bench at the top of his career. I have a feeling some talking will take place during the CL games. Our clubs have a history of making good business together, and I believe Madrid owes us some for the Becks, RVN and Ronaldo transfers.

We have seen several players being forced out of the club despite being better than their alternatives. Van der vaart, Sneijder, Morientes, Robinho etc. Some players just don't fit into their system and if they don't they just blame the player.

Is there any chance we could be bidding on him to bring him back?

So you think we are currently negotiating to sign a player who has been at his club for less than 6 months, from the club we are about to play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League because we have a good history of doing business with them despite never signing a player from them.

It will be done in an unofficial way. Rooney goes over to talk to him, let him know about our club and so on. Then the dreaming can begin.

I thought redcafe was pro-Modric.

Tbf though it was mentioned quite a lot that we should have gone in for sneijder etc back when he was available at a cut price. Wouldn't mind a bargain deal for modric at all but I doubt they're going to give up on him so soon. Tbh it was always a strange signing as there wasn't really an obvious spot for him with the way mourinho sets up. Could be though that if mourinho does leave at the end of the season the new manager will want him.

Sneijder did spent more than a season at Madrid when he became available to many clubs, I mean his price dropped.Modric will still cost very expensive if United gets interested

I think Sneijder's price dropped because Real really needed to get rid of him and Robben after the big signings of Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema. They ended up going really late in August.

When was the last time Fergie signed someone warming the bench of another club ? Not as a back up for us obviously. That's not rhetoric just genuinely inquisitive.

You know that's called tapping up, right?

We don't need Modric anyway, this is a ridiculous idea.

Watch him put in MoM performances in both legs now, as Madrid crush us like piece of watery clay.

Well in OP

Madrid have had some amazing players at their disposal over the last 5 years after the Galaticos era and they still failed to capitalise with a lot of them.

I've gone off him too. I think he makes a lot of poor decisions. Signing that super long contract at Spurs and then wanting out pretty much the next day, signing for Madrid, wanting to join Chelsea... Seems like a fecking idiot to be fair.

He wasn't that good when he was at Spurs.

Never known a player to end up being so ridiculously highly rated for doing so little.

People wanted us to buy him to replace Scholes! Even now Scholes takes less time than him to actually pass the fecking ball.

If he became available at a decent price we should go for him. We need strength in depth in midfield. Ando is injured half a season every season, Clev is somewhat delicate and Fletch is out of the picture for the foreseeable future. Plus, we all know when the defence is hit by injuries, Carrick is shunted into the back four.

I think he had one really good season at Spurs, and the rest were nothing special. But there are flashes of real class from him, even when he's not playing particularly well and I reckon that distorts the picture. Very much a Spurs sort of player really.

And I'll take all that back if he ever actually signs for us :D

I'd rather we stick to the 2 young players we have. We do need a CM, not in modric's mould though.

I'm happy to stick with Cleverley now we've seen him perform well in big games. He's clearly highly rated within Old Trafford so I'd look for another type of midfielder. He's still a really classy player though and would've been perfect alongside Carrick

I he was genuinely available then we'd be nuts not to be in for him. Quality player.

Personally I think there's still a chance he'll end up being a success at Madrid. Depends who succeeds Mourinho in the Summer.

What if I told you guys I have a source close to the club that says we're looking into the matter, the same source that gave me information about Scholes returning more than a month before it happened? Just need to get this out of my system ;)

I'd ask if it was the same person who is also close to Real Madrid and told you Ronaldo was leaving and Falcao was coming for £30m

I like Luka. Thought he was one of the top 5, if not the top midfielder in the league before he left for Madrid. With Scholes retiring he would be an awesome buy. Fergie type of midfielder.

Sign him up!

For a player with his skill-set, he doesn't create enough, doesn't score enough. This leads me to think that he isn't a proper winner.

He's always been vastly overrated, especially on this forum.

Spurs was his level.

Must be very overrated by Sir Alex too, given he said Modric can control the game like Scholesy and he was at the heart of a Spurs side that was playing the best football in the league.

Absolute BS.

He's an awesome player. I'd still love him here. The kind of midfielder we need to replace Scholes and help Carrick.
