Seems Ole is strongly hinting towards putting out our B team in one of the matches, most probably Leicester.

Especially when he says its not his problem if this will affect CL qualifications for the other teams around.

I'm 100% sure he wont put out a weakened side against Liverpool, and Aston Villa is the best bet to get the necessary 3 points.
"I just keep my fingers crossed that nobody gets injured. That's going to be my biggest concern, injuries"

That will be the main objective now before the Europa league final. Those men in suits sitting at desks that published that fixture list simply had no care for player welfare.

Anyone want to take a bet that we play a full second 11 on Tuesday and the FA fine us for putting out a weakened team?

They will find a way and isn’t there precedence for it? Was it Wolves who go t fined for resting players against us.
I think there have been fines for playing reserves in the past. But now we have PL squads, I can’t see how you can justify any punishment.

in the lower leagues you have to play a certain no. of the same players in one of the cups.

so you had a situation where Bristol Rovers substituted their keeper after 30 seconds…

there’s obviously a question of fairness if you rest the entire team - but as OGS says, feck em. Not our problem.

Aaah I just googled it and the one I was thinking of lead to the 25 man squad rule so maybe we won’t get fined.

It's pretty obvious that the best solution would be full strength one vs Aston Villa. Rest players vs Leicester and back to full strength again vs Liverpool.

If we beat Aston Villa, we are pretty much 7 points clear from Leicester with one game in hand. So It makes no sense to rest our main players vs Aston Villa in my opinion. And it also makes no sense to rest vs Liverpool in my opinion because after Liverpool game we will have 5 days rest for the next game.

In fact if we beat Aston Villa, for the Leicester game we should rest minimum 8 players just for the Liverpool game. I know the last time when we have this crazy schedule last season during our semi final FA Cup vs Chelsea and it wasn't pretty.

Everything Solskjaer has said suggests he will more or less sack off the Leicester game. Probably the right approach too - make sure we're properly prepared for 2 of the 3 games, the other one is out of our control.

Watching how complacent the players were tonight this could be a really bad week.
Bad week in which sense? With the four game fixture ahead, players knew that all they had to do was to put in a minimum effort to secure a place in the final.

There isn't much pressure on the other games either. They could lose all 4 with that level of effort.

United need to win two games to secure second place and another win in the cup final. Do you really think that these players and manager are going to give up on the race now?

On paper, our next game (against Villa), is the easiest game and we should try to win that. Rest key players for the Leicester game and bring out full strength squad against Liverpool. We still have Fulham and Wolves after that if we need to claw back any dropped points. If we secure second place then we should rest key players for our last game against Wanders as the Europa Final is three days later.

I might be completely wrong because Ole has said he hates losing any game.

It's just an observation, I'm not saying they will. But they'll lose to Villa playing like Thursday and after that Leicester with a weakened team and Liverpool 2 days later are certainly no given. Fortunately it shouldn't matter.

I want a full team against Villa, a fully changed side and subs against Leicester, then a full team after that, hopefully that leaves us cemented in 2nd with Fulham and Wolves to try stuff out.

It’s well worth chucking the Leicester game/play second string. Makes it difficult for Liverpool to get top 4 and allows us to rest players, win/win.

With how patchy Leicester have been since beating us in the cup, I think we can get a draw against them with a team like this:

DDG

Telles Bailly Lindelof Axel

McTominay Matic

James VdB Mata

Martial

The key issues are whether Martial and James are going to be ready in time.

What's the punishment for refusing to play a game? If we just don't turn up and give Villa 3 points?
Villa don‘t really need 3 points. We will give them to Rodgers instead. He needs them more, looks like he has forgotten how to gain them.

I’d hope huge points deduction for team so who did it due to the fecking horrific and precedent it would set

Honestly anyone who bitched about the Super League bring anti football and defends clubs not turning up for games if they don’t need the points is a huge hypocrite

Why would we not turn up to the game that if we win would seal CL for next season? Surely we would just field a sub par team against Leicester to make it harder for Liverpool to qualify for the CL.

Where the grass is greener.
Binning off the Leicester game is the most logical choice for so many reasons. But I just can't actually picture Ole doing it for whatever reason, but I hope he does.

happened with Middlesbrough didn’t it? Think they got a 3 point deduction and lost the game 3-0. Very much from memory.

Every club at some point every season relies on another club getting a result against someone else to benefit them. Imagine the outrage if we were chasing title and our rivals were simply awarded 3 points because their opponents couldn’t be bothered to play because they knew they could take the 3 points hit and they wanted to be rested for an upcoming cup match.

The precedent would be outrageous and guaranteed to bite us in the arse one day

Would be fecking weird if we lose all 3 games.

No matter how you look at it though, I would like to keep us our momentum in the league. This stuff might mess it up.

They got relegated because of that.

Finished 39 points, if they had 42 they would have been 14th. Then Juninho, Ravanelli and others left because of the relegation.

Think Robbo and the board claim someone from the FA provisionally gave them an okay to postpone the game because there was an illness in the squad, then they turned round and docked them points anyway so Robbo said something like "if I knew they would have done that I'd have played the kids and tealady up top".

Ole in the last hour has gone from thinking that he now can painlessly do the obvious full strength/heavy rotation/full strength pattern this week, to now just thinking hmm…

I wonder if the PL would have given us this schedule if we were in an actual title race...

Forget about City. The way Chelsea are going about our 2nd place position is now under threat.

If we win on Sunday then 2nd is all but guaranteed. We would need 3 pts with gd / 4 pts max out of the remaining 4 games.
Need to turn up tomorrow and Ole can then rest players against Leicester.

Yep they play next on Friday

We need to win all 3 of our games or they're crowned Champions
cheers. Clearly there’s about a 1-1000 chance. Like every team can, you look back and think what if we’d gotten 3 points from the likes of the Sheff United game - it would potentially be really interesting!

There’s no downside to playing our second XI against Leicester

Can then play full strength against Liverpool and Villa.

Losing to Leicester won’t matter if we beat Liverpool. And it would help keep Liverpool out of the top 4

Leicester are looking so bad lately, that our second string team would probably beat them anyway

For me , should try different formations to prepare for Final and not if we should play a “B” team.

Wouldn't surprise me while they ignore City making 9 changes to their starting 11 today.

Not really. We need to win 2 out of 5 games to get out of sight. I don't see us losing 3 games.
If United only win 2 of their remaining 5 games and Chelsea win their remaining 3 games (and they should) both will finish on 73 points and Chelsea could finish ahead of United on GD.

So need 2 wins and 1 draw then.
