He deserves this, for sure. He has no real competition for his place but he's been excellent and one of our best / most consistent performers this season.

Good news but it's not like he was ever gonna go anywhere else, he loves it here and we love him.

I'm not looking for a muppet signing, I just feel that we need specialists in every position if we are looking to challenge the barcas and the bayerns. You could say that we have higher priorities at the moment, but it is a position that could be upgraded. I have no issue whatosever in extending his contract, he is useful and a very good professional.
He plays as rb exclusively though. The quality of the player in that position is far more relevant than if he once occupied a different position or can play another position.

He essentially became a right-back because he was too rubbish in attack to be a right-winger anymore which kinda makes him a failure, but fair play to him, he's become a really damn good right-back, despite still having a god awful cross on him a lot of the time. Deserves the contract extension.

Beast of a player. Solid, trustworthy, works his backside off.

All title winning squads have a Tony Valencia. You can't have 11 Ronaldos and win everything.

Terrific commitment, defends well. Gets the job done, built as a tank. With better dribbling and crossing would make it into worlds 11 dream team, but still a very good player as it is.

While typing this with my right hand only, I turned in circles whilst doing so, stared blankly forward, sent it backwards to De Gea, got it back in a better position and then smashed it proper into a defender's knees, it went out for a throw for which I was grossly out of position for, and then it was like that crap Tom Cruise movie where I did it again and again but didn't defeat an alien invasion. Instead I got a contract extension. Rinse, repeat.

Seeing some bizarre comments in here. People seem to be quite 'glass half-empty' regarding Valencia.

Some are saying you need 'specialists' in every position. Wrong. You can be competitive without having 25 world class players, a stupid attitude to think so.

He isn't a failed winger. His first real stints as a full-back came in 2014-15, that's with a disregard to the few, sparing appearances in the few years previous. By that time he was already 29 years old, a 'failed winger' who'd been playing there for the best part of ten years, a man singed to play the position of Cristiano Ronaldo.

After becoming a RB 'permanently' in the beginning of 2015, he missed one league game, completed the rest. This season, he has missed three league games. Two with a fractured arm. He has completed every game he has appeared in, no coincidence. So I don't understand the notion or the view that because he is 31 he needs replacing. He has been brilliant this season and rightly played every game.

I'll give you some perspective regarding his age. Phillip Lahm is as old if not older, as is Pablo Zabaleta. Two of the best full-backs of this era. It's not as if his physical attributes are declining, and his technical ones certainly aren't.

He's been a terrific signing these past 7 years, and a new contract is fully deserved.

In the post Fergie era Valencia has been our most consistent performer along with De Gea. He's been a revelation at RB.

Tell me a better attacking right back in the league, only walker comes close, Bellerin is crap defensively
