Will Varane miss the Leeds game? Does anyone know how long he has to quarantine? Will he make it on time now?

We have no idea if he's fully vaxed. If not, quarantine alone will not allow him.

If he is....mayyyyyybe a bench spot?

If he's not fully vaccinated then it's a 10 day quarantine but if he's fully vaccinated then there's no quarantine. Given most have indicated he will have to quarantine it's most likely he isn't fully vaccinated.

I'd say almost certainly.

A week's training with zero pre season games and throwing him into a new team? would be pretty unfair.

Lindelof and Maguire should manage for the first few.

Apparently back in april Graham Hunter did a hour and half interview with Varane. Specifically about how he plays football, what he has learnt over the years, how he has grown as a player etc.

Hunter said yesterday on the Transfer Window podcast that Varane had made up his mind that wanted to go to the PL and Man Utd specifically. Experience a new league etc.

Apparently someone senior at Utd (Murtough/fletcher ?) rang Hunter when they were doin their due diligence on Varane to find out about his personality/character. Whether he genuinely wanted to play for Utd or was it all for money. Apparently he genuinely wants to play for Utd. As he turned Utd down when he was 19 and always wondered what the PL would be like to play in.

Genuine question..

Why was Leon Bailey allowed to come to England and sign within like a day and yet Varane has to wait, what is it now.. 2 weeks?

Them shipping 5 in the first two games last season and then Bailly joining in to ship another 6 in game three doesn't fill me with confidence. They will play one game in pre season before Leeds themselves so I'd be throwing Varane in if he is fit regardless of him playing a game - I'd 100% take a rusty Varane over a slightly less rusty but not as good Lindelof. Then again I work on computers, what do I know.

Players arriving late, games postponed.. this pre season is not exactly going smoothly and we really cannot afford to start the season so shit again.

Differences between germany and spain in the amber list stuff?
Sure, but 1 day vs 2 weeks.

Spurs signed Gil within like a day too from agreeing the fee to completion within the time we’ve been trying to get Varane over.

When he says today, yesterday I assume he means today, today.
Flight tracking poised (again).
He just says that Varane is READY to fly to Manchester today. We still need to wait for the actual flight tweet in the next week or two

No chance he plays against Leeds I would think.
I doubt it but you never know. I saw he trained one or two times with Real Madrid after his holiday. Anybody who knows how he’s been training after that?

Course he can play. He's had a tournament all summer. He won't be lacking fitness. He's also had some training sessions with Real.

Only thing is he won't have long with the actual defensive unit. Fitness wise he's fine though.

Speak for yourself. There's nothing "odd" or "strange" about pointing out the number of cards. It adds a context. It will be interesting to see how his playing style transfers to PL in this regard. The same goes for the comparison. Doesn't tell a whole lot yet, but it's an interesting fact.
So what have you concluded from the comparison then?

This is the longest flight from Madrid to Manchester ever. Did he fly via Sydney?

I would assume that Varane is tying things up in Spain.

T2 Sportsperson visas are easy to get and don't take much time, so it's unlikely to be that.

Visa hold up. The Gil thing is a bit weird in that the player was in Tokyo at the time so not sure how they did the medical as the Olympic village is locked down.

Why do we drag these out for so long? Everyone knew about Sancho for a month. Everyone’s knew about Varane for 2 weeks. City are going to announce Grealish first at the rate.

I have concluded that it shows the frequency of yellow and red cards for certain players. It adds a little background for the coming season. As do thousands of other posts. How important do you want a post to be? Go buy a book.

After Ducker, ten times the likes.

“ITKs” and Twitter stardom?
I have to say Romano has done an impressive job. He literally only repeats second hand news, as if it's his own, and people lap it up.

As soon as something looks like it's happening (from, you know, real sources), he's all over it, posting as if he's found things out himself.

It's actually embarrassing how many people are fooled by it.

Still, he's made a career out of it.

So even you can't tell what the comparison actually tells to the audience. Just random comparison added it for no reason, it could have been useful for different discussion but not in this one. You gotta challenge people to get cards after all.

I dunno if you understand how journalism works, or the idea of corroboration, but if you're a good journalist you do not report a story before you have had some kind of verification that what you are reporting is fact. Reporting a news story first does not make you a good journalist. What makes you a good journalist is being known to be reliable; i.e being known to only publish a story when you are confident it is true.

When some random Spanish journalist says we might be in for Varane I have no idea whether that's true in any way. When Romano reports it then, because Romano has a really good reputation, I begin to believe it might be true.

Cannot believe how many times people have needed this explained to them on this forum.

And when someone "lesser known" does break an exclusive, people on here simply disregard it as being unreliable.

Oo, touched a nerve, have you got shares in his brand?

So, as I said, he's just repeating things. Certain people - Ornstein for example - exclusively break transfer news and it's usually very accurate. Romano is no different to the other transfer news Twitter accounts - he's just done a good job of disguising it.

A source becomes reliable by repeatedly being right. You don't assume a source is correct if you don't know if it's reliable. This isn't hard.
Oh I agree with what you are saying. My point was people give Romano a hard time because they say he just copies the news from elsewhere, but when someone like Luckhurst does actually break an exclusive, like he was the first one to break the Varane story, they won't believe it unless the "more reliable" journos report it as well. And when the reliable ones like Romano corroborate a story, they give them shite like Falk and Romano are made fun as being " tap in merchants".
