Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid | Build-up Thread | Return leg: March 15

Be an interesting game, ralfs first champions league game with us. There not having the best of seasons and can be got at, considering there normally one of the best defensive sides in Europe they conceded 3 to getafe last week. We need to put away chances though!!

First competitive one

Pogba certainly hasn't won it. Juan Mata, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane are the three in our squad who have won it while Edinson Cavani has been runner-up.
Pogba has been runner up too with Juventus?

or whatever chance we have of beating a Bayern
That'd be 0%.

Having said that, I'd still rather we got humiliated by Bayern in the last 8 than knocked out by Atleti in the last 16. But it's probably all academic anyway as I don't see us having any more than a nominal chance of beating Atlético.

Atletico are a decent side but I think people are overestimating them. Both Real and Barca are in transition and they’re below both of them in La Liga. This isnt the mid 2010s Atletico who’d be walking La Liga right now if they were teleported to this season.

Yeah I know but he has been in finals though with Juve.

Also, why are people forgetting De Gea? He has CL experience under Fergie.

I don't think You have seen them play this season.
For starters they should have been out in the group stage and their form is not really better nowadays.

He’s already managed to get us knocked out of the fa cup… the competition we should of been going for and the best chance of a trophy. That should of been his first competitive one.

Who genuinely are their current best and on form players? Felix, Suarez, Koke? Is Oblak still good? Godin is not their player anymore yeah?

They've been pretty awful this year, theyre not solid at all in defense allowing 33 goals in 24 matches which is an awful lot for a Simeone team. Still they have big name players such as Oblak, Marcos Llorente, Luis Suarez, Griezmann, etc. I see them as favourites over us since they tend to step up for the moment in big games, specially in the UCL. Lets remember they kicked out Liverpool 2 years ago, while we....well we shit the bed mostly.

Oblak's been appalling this season, he's only saved something like 2/13 shots he's faced.

I have seen us play though. That's enough info for me.

Losing to Levante at home. If we bring our best we should get past them.

You've hit all :)

It's hard to single out when they're in such bad shape. Maybe Carrasco, Correa, Lemar

They play the dirty side of the game so well, I wished me matched them in this respect. They fight like furious dogs for every single decision. That's a team.

One of their centre backs told the crowd to keep quiet as they’re 1-0 down , they are now booing him every time he touches the ball

They’re shite. I don’t care how terrible we are, this is a highly winnable game with Atletico more likely to self combust

Did they really lose to Levante at home?
I know. Terrifying! Shaking in my boots at the prospect of facing these.

I'm under no illusion that we could very well go out to these but i don't share the pessimism on here that they'll destroy us. Looks a very even tie.

I feel like this is going to be Rangnicks 'Ole Vs PSG' moment. We play a team that have been great over the last few years/tough on paper but currently well below par, and we win. Gets made into a massive deal and in all the excitement we blow our load and make Rangnick permanent.
