Van Gaal said he'll be giving players 60 minutes here, instead of two lineups, so I'm guessing what he puts out here will be pretty close to the XI that will start against Spurs, barring injuries of course. A good test for us though.

LVG said that DDG might play this game. I think he will go with this:

-------------------DDG--------------
Darmian---Smalling---Jones---Shaw
----------Carrick------Schneiderlin---
------------------Herrera--------------
----------Mata------------Young------
------------------Rooney--------------

Schweini, Depay and Blind to come on in the 60th minute.

We need to start playing 4-3-3 and our strongest lineup so our players can gel before the season starts. I do not understand what van goal is doing with squad selection this season so far.

De Gea
Darmien - Smalling - Jones - Shaw
Schneiderlin/↓
Herrera - Pereira/Carrick↑
Mata - Rooney - Depay
I also find it facinating if Van Gaal will continue to be adamant about having a left footed center back and continue to play Blind ahead of Smalling.

Think we'll do:

De Gea
Darmian Smalling Jones Shaw
Carrick Schneiderlin
Mata Herrera Memphis
Rooney
Though I wouldn't be surprised to see Young in there and Memphis stay as the #10.

Hopefully. As long as Memphis isn't stuck in the middle again.

I don't mind him there at all.. He looks a huge goal threat there and is really creative. Just needs to work on opening himself up to receive the ball better so he's not always closed down but that comes with time. He's great at picking up the ball and running at defences with it, whether it's out wide or through the middle.

Johnstone

Carrick
Herrera - Schneiderlin
Mata ------------------- Young
Rooney
Depay to come on at some point, along with Schweinsteiger and Pereira. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if both teams started with some youngsters though, they don't tend to show their hand too early in preseason.

I don't mind him playing there some time in the future when his skill set has been polished, but for the time being, playing him on the wing would be better for his development IMO.

I fully expect us to go with the 4-4-1-1 again with maybe Basti starting alongside Schneiderlin and Memphis starting on the left whlist Pereira will be behind Rooney.

Thank god i won't have to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the game.

If De Gea and Valencia are fit then they'll start in place of Johnstone and Darmian, but for now I reckon it'll be this:

-------------Johnstone
Darmian--Smalls--Jones--Shaw
------------Schneiderlin
------Herrera--------Carrick
----------------Mata
-------Memphis-----Rooney

With Schweini, Young, Pereria, Rojo and McNair getting a lot of game time. I don't think most subs will be made til about 50/60 mins in because he said something like that in his last pre match presser.

just don't play 442 against this barca, we'll get eaten if he does. No more experiments lvg, give us a taste for what we're in for next season.

My wit's end
Can't wait to see Pereira against Barcelona. My concern with him has always been the tempo of his passing and how long he holds onto the ball. It's an area he's improved upon in the last year, but we're still only talking at U21 level. If he can stand up to Barca's pressing (albeit in a preseason game), I'd be mightily impressed.

I want Herrera to get into that 'first half' XI (with Memphis moving wide in place of Young), and Jones to replace Blind too. Carrick-Schneiderlin-Herrera should be our starting midfield and it's time to take a look at it.

This team would make me so unbelievably happy and I would instantly be filled with greater hope that LVG knows what his best lineup is going into the season. I wouldn't mind if carrick was in CDM but aside from that I wouldn't want anything else to be different from that team really.
My big worry is that LVG just won't do this and will instead try and keep experimenting while what he should be doing is fully testing his best lineup.

Agree with this. I feel Young deserves his place but it'd be nice to see Memphis wide for once. Hopefully LvG is thinking something similar.

I think the next game will indicate who LVG currently sees as the starters (with a few exceptions). I'm assuming di Maria will be sold (or will be in the process of being sold) and that we won't make any signings in that time.

Early Predicted Line-up (60 mins):
de Gea

Valencia Smalling Jones Shaw

Mata Carrick Herrera Memphis

Rooney Pereira
30 mins Team:
Johnstone

Darmian McNair Rojo Blind

Lingard Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger Young

Hernandez Januzaj

I doubt we will ever see DDG play for us again, Johnstone between the sticks again.
