Marc Cucurella - World Class Hairdo

We just need a loan. Our regular LB and reserve are good enough.
 
I believe his crossing is his biggest strength, with Hojlund coming back it could be useful to have

Excuse me? I have watched Fernandez play many times. Can you not read? Also, where did I say that I want him to start for the next 3 months? Why are you making things up?

On their books, the remaining amortisation value for Cucurella will be of 33m£ next summer... at best (for us). Assuming no add-ons triggered, no sell-on clause and amortisation over 5 years. Worst case maybe 42m£~.

I don't understand this notion about money. You will only buy him if he performs well for your team. In that case few quids extra won't bother you much.

I hope he performs well and become integral part of your team so that you will buy him and we got some money from him.
 
Put hair removal cream in his helmet. Then we can talk about the loan deal.

Exactly this, Chelsea and City were fighting for him. He’s not out the Chelsea team because he’s a bad player. It’s because they have too much competition. If he performs so well Shaw can’t get in the team then we pay what he’s worth based on his ability and performances. Simple.
There’s no reason why we can’t keep him and Shaw if he did well and it’s an option given that Shaw can also play CB. Let’s hope we pay the loan fee.
 
Seems like EtH is not afraid to undertake the task of bringing underperforming players back to their best. Let's hope it doesn't cost us. While a lot of Chelsea fans wanted to keep Mount, most of them seem to be happy to see the back of Cucurella.

He's been an absolute disaster at Chelsea, so are we looking at his work for Brighton and believing we can extract that? If yes, our whole method of attack has to be so much more assertive because he's really bad defensively and with Martinez and Casemiro on his inside channels and Rashford not tracking back, there's a real worry of us getting roasted by good flank play down our left with him in the team. On the other hand, if we manage to go the ultra attacking route, he'd be in his element.



EtH seems to be really intent on sticking to his attacking principles by even looking in this guy's direction.

He's a better left back than Dalot,
Malacia is long term injured, as is Shaw, he is coming here to be a starter for the foreseeable then depending on Shaw's recovery possibly an understudy.

We have no senior left back currently, so this loan would cover that situation and offer us protection on the left side.
It's clear we cannot rely solely on a young player back there with our defensive fragility and Cucurella would offer us experience as well as attacking thrust.

He was ruthless with young players (as was Ferguson) Neither “played the kids” out of any dogma about youth players. They played the Babes and 92 as they were exceptional talents.

Absolute nonsense we played lots of youth who weren't exceptional talent. We gave them a chance then moved them on as needed. These days we struggle to give lads a chance usually unless there's an injury crisis and a gap forms.

So many on the caf just see black and white that if a player doesn't play they aren't ready. Yet most of our promoted talents end up playing because of circumstances in the first team, some aren't so lucky and that situation never arises.

Fernandez is unlucky as if Shaw gets injured a week or two later he's getting that opportunity.

Fernandez also came from Madrid (the better Madrid) at a similar age.

I'd also advise you spend some time in the academy and reserve threads. Savage and Iqbal were never hyped in the reserves, they were overrated by people who just caught the pre-season games they featured in. Mainoo is a totally different case and is a dead cert. Fernandez not so definite but he has half a chance along with a few others.

Sure, but I was just providing a ballpark estimate of what Chelsea could set his price at in total.
Up to anyone and the club in particular to decide what he's worth a year from now.

You'd back him over Dalot defensively, seriously?

Is his offensive capability that much better than Dalot's to offset how bad he is on the other side of the ball?

If he does come here, I'll hope he's the Brighton version like everyone else, but I'm not sure that is more likely than not. He's been poor for quite some time now, which is obviously a concern.

Is Malacia out for a significant period of time or something?

I hope you are correct but he has looked very average for Chelsea!

We need a left back. If AWB or Dalot get injured we have no left back. Dalot is up and down form wise, he needs competition. We seen what Cucurella can do at Brighton. The whole chelsea team were rubbish last season. Not easy to play in that team last year.

Dalot is volatile himself and isn't even a left back. Cucurella on a loan is such a low risk deal it's surprising there's pushback on it.

I also don’t get why people can’t understand we need a left back. Plain and simple. And he’s as good as anyone we can get on loan right now in the market.

ten Hag has assessed Fernandez over pre season and has decided he needs another loan and that tells you everything you need to know. He's not ready. It would be stupid to rely on a youngster and leave ourselves short of cover at full back.
 
I know people are worried given his performances last season, but there are a million possible reasons for that, not least, the fact that no one performed in that team last season.

I would take Cucu back at Brighton in a heartbeat he was fantastic, he played well both defensively and offensively, at LB, LWB and LCB. There was a good reason he was our player of the season and that Pep wanted him as well. His season before that at Getafe was also strong and I was gutted when he left us, luckily we signed Estupinan who is also excellent.

Getting him on loan is a low risk strategy for both United and Chelsea, for United he's short term and will be desperate to reignite his career away from Stamford Bridge and for Chelsea he's off the books and if he plays well it secures his worth for next summer.

He is an excellent player.

I'm not really sure how Chelsea benefit here since they just sold Hall and the often injured Chilwell will be their only remaining left back - along with Maatsen who is their equivalent of Alvaro Fernandez.

Chelsea are a mystery - they always seem to be short of players irrespective of how many players they buy.

It's not an objective discussion - people can believe that Dalot and Fernandez are sufficient for the next 6-8 weeks while Shaw and Malacia recover. Taking that weird, snotty tone isn't a good look, particularly on a forum that exists for opinion and debate.

We are sadly not the most well drilled team either. I don´t think it is an easier task to come and perform for us than for Chelsea?
I just think it is a bit sad that we can´t even rely on two players like Dalot and Fernandez for 2-3 months. Fernandez is 20 now and has full season at championship in the bag, and from what i read about him, and the few games i saw, he did ok, maybe even better than ok.

Oh well, hope Marc can find good form for us and really perform here.

Why are you amazed. He’s an awful player clearly out his depth at Chelsea. The fact that they are so eager to move him on so quickly knowing United’s situation says it all. He’s extremely unlikely to play the whole season for us. So in effect further reducing any value he has. He’s a joke signing for us if true and highlights and absolutely awful transfer window for ETH if true.

It's a loan deal so why not go for it, especially if we need to go more attacking in games. People getting pressed over a cheap loan option is utter madness. It's not like we're looking to buy him.

Chelsea signed him because he was amazing for Brighton. If you rate his Chelsea performance, he is average player. If you watched him play for Brighton, you know he can do wonders. He was horrendous last season but so was everyone else for Chelsea, the season before he was Brightons player of the year and I think Pep wanted him. Has potential to be really good for us.

Think he is a reasonable cover for our LB position. Will provide good depth for that position. I would take him if the deal pans out.

No he’s not an awful player in his last season he was 1st to 3rd for every defensive stat in the premier league.

Well yes, and then you look a bit closer and realise that literally half of the time he doesn't actually tackle the ball and that he loses more challenges than just about any player in the league - which is obviously a contributing factor to him consistently having Tal Ben Haim levels of atrocious defensive positioning:

I’d be very interested in Van Dykes stats in this when he was on top form. One of his great skills is shielding an opponent out of play whilst dribbling without actually making a tackle.
So we are establishing that cucurella has a lot of strengths and a few weaknesses too.
 
It makes sense to loan someone. If we play the kid there, the forum would melt down when we lose a game while relying on a kid.

I don't rate any of the linked names, but i think in easier home games, when he can push forward, he will create much more than our current fullbacks.

In tougher games, and away games, we can play Dalot there.

All of the options above are a huge step down from Shaw for me.
