I understand that, but Arsenal have better attacking players than us right now. Martinelli's had a poor season, but he got 15 league goals himself the previous season.

If Hojlund was to have a big improvement next season that could potentially remove the problem a bit, but I've not been very impressed with him so far tbh. I actually think he's a great finisher, but I'm concerned that he's not getting into positions to receive the ball enough, and I also think his 1st touch is very poor. When you have a player like Bruno supplying you, you should be getting more chances on goal than he is.

Garnacho is getting the chances, which is very promising, but I suspect it will take him a bit longer to get his finishing to the level we need. Personally, I prefer him on the right at the moment because he's very good at creating chances and he's less tempted to shoot constantly when on that side than when he's on the left.

Maybe if we are looking better in the 1st month of the season, that will give us more time to consider whether or not we can get by without Rashford in the case where a big offer does come in.
This season his finishing has been poor, I was surprised looking at the PL stats to see he's missed more big chances than Garnacho (7 vs 6) which makes me somewhat question how accurate it is, given we've seen Garnacho just in one game have about 3 what I would think of as 'big' chances but he's really struggled at the two aspects of his game where he is, or was, elite which are pace and coming onto his right and finishing.

I think Hojlund will be ok, I think he's got the skillset to be a good CF for a top team, he needs more help from the wide players though as Garnacho and Rashford are very selfish for the most part and we have very erratic fullbacks offensively, some days I think Dalot might be the future for that role and then he'll do something stupid and I'll change my mind. It's too easy to mark a CF when you basically know only Bruno will be putting balls into the box, this changes a bit when Eriksen plays but he's not good enough for us in general.

We have bigger issues than the forward line tough in truth with 1, probably 2 CBs needed, a couple of CMs and a LB if possible as well.

Every city player give a least a 7 out of 10 every game just like Man United of old. If a Manchester United player can’t give this every game it’s time to move them on. It’s like people saying Scott is a good footballer when he has one could game every 8 games he’s starts. The board need to get the club back to a certain level.

Well yeah, that's his base. People who can't/won't attend matches that want the fan community feel. It is heavily internet culture influenced too. Hojlund is a fan, for example, but a big United fan.
I watch his streams and he does change his mind a lot (populism?).
But I think it is weird that a Manchester United fan would slag off and generalize all the non-attending fans like you do.

You notice other clubs' players giving it 10/10 on the field. Many of them are just not top players, but they perform to the best of their abilities. It has been shocking the last years, how players can perform sub-par compared to the best of their ability.

Mentally and physically he has not been right all season, and that unfortunately means that we're stuck with him as nobody is offering us anything north of 50m for him.

There is only 1 place crazy enough to pay for him and 1 he might consider. They also it seems have just lost the possible next in line for the the throne, so if anything it would be now or never.

I've not slagged anyone off or generalized? A massive % who watches watch-alongs and streams of Goldbridge won't be match attending fans. That's just the nature of his content.

He's been rubbish the majority of his time at the club. He's an arrogant show pony.

Replacements for his abject showing this season shouldn't be hard for a club like United to do and if it is then God help us.

Rashford isn't and will never be the talisman.

Sell and move on
Amazing how he's managed so many goals and assists while better players can't. Interesting that.

World class players don’t have a full season where they are horrendously shite.

We need to sell off Rashford asap his value will only go down as the memory of the purple patch fades away.

He’s the only one who can fetch a semi-decent amount, allowing us to reinvest.

Also he’s on insane money. How can we demand standards and incorporate a sensible wage structure while inconsistent players are paid as if they’re among the best in the world?

He’s been a starting forward far longer than anyone else at the club… it’s not like he’s putting up CR7 stats.

In his league career he averages .57 G/A per 90. So a goal contribution a little more than once every 2 games.

For reference, Martial (who everyone has abhorred for years) averages .61 G/A per 90 for his own league career.

I'm comparing him to footballers in general, not Man Utd.

Seeing what Arteta has done to Havertz, I would be reluctant to let Marcus go to Arsenal. Got a strange feeling he will flourish and suddenly turn into a world beater there. We should ship him abroad. Are PSG still interested?

Perhaps we would be better off just getting a world class manager AND only then deciding which players we should get rid of?

When you see inferior players like Havertz and Sancho performing key roles for successful and well-managed teams, it does seem odd that our fanbase want to sell off one of the few players who has stood out at times over the last few years before seeing what a top manager might do with this team.

Watching Sancho last night should be a reminder for fans of how tough it is to play here. Not many players are cut out for it.
If we sell Rashford I’m pretty certain we’ll all be looking at him absolutely smash it at a club without the same pressure and with a functioning side.

True as this may be, I feel Sancho brings a lot on himself. How hard is it to turn up on time for training?

Sancho is clearly at fault but, ultimately, a lot of blame has to also fall on the manager I’m afraid. A top manager nowadays has to have the skills to deal with spoilt youngsters, with more money in their early 20s than most of us could dream of having in a lifetime.

If it’s correct that ETH demanded an apology and refused to play Sancho without it, then that was clearly the wrong way to manage this situation. Even if he privately wanted to sell Sancho in the summer, the way he dealt with it now means that we are currently paying for Sancho to be a key factor in Dortmund potentially reaching the CL final whilst, at the same time, lacking cover in areas where Sancho could have been useful.

That’s the thing though, apparently he was like that at Dortmund too but they glossed over and sent someone to wake him up etc.
That’s ok at a club like Dortmund, with less intensity and much less pressure, but it won’t work at a club like United or Madrid.

Some players just aren’t cut out for the dedication, sacrifice and pressure required. I imagine Matt Le Tiss was the same, and knew it too.

To me it really shows what a freak of nature Bruno is. In a good team he would be immense.

I need for a player to succeed with Manchester United he needs three things

A- He must be a high quality player ie one of the top 1-2% in the world
B- He must have the right attitude to succeed and work under pressure
C- He must be able to handle the physicality and pace of the EPL.

I believe that B and C had been the biggest issue with United in the past 10 years. Most of the players bought on silly money either lacked attitude or were too old (ex Sanchez), injury prone or slow for the EPL. Ironically we focused on the least of all three ie A. Time and time again we've had players like Park, Teddy and Gaz who succeeded despite not being world beaters mainly because of attitude and ability to handle the EPL.

Regarding A, FIFA has estimated there is about 123.675 professional footballers in the world. 1-2% mean you’d pick from the top 2.000 players, which for me is setting the bar too low.

Oh he’d be absolutely outrageous.
Having just read the athletic It sounds to me like ETH is leaving the door open for Sancho. Sancho hasn’t said he won’t come back either. The thing is he’s a guaranteed starter and star player there and his stats are about the same there as they were for us. He’s a good player with mentality issues. He could still be a great player even in the PL. I know lots of fans thinks he’s lazy and just passes the ball backwards but if we are playing with a striker we actually need wingers who can play combinations and a final ball. Sancho at Dortmund 1.0 was rapid too. He can do both things when he’s confident. Obviously I think the manager was right to call him out if he’s being unprofessional behind the scenes. Maybe it’ll be the kick up the arse he needs? Either way him playing well is good for Utd

18 year old Ronaldo would have been run out of this team by the fans/media if he were to come here as an unproven teenager over the last few years - thank god Fergie knew what he was doing and was an excellent man manager

Would he? He was (by pretty much everyone's accounts) a dedicated professional from an extremely young age. He also got stick from the press for taking the piss with his tricks, diving and was also targeted by players trying to assault him. Maybe being part of the social media generation would have rotted his brain, but I think he would have made it anywhere he went.

Don't get your hopes up lads, he's not going anywhere. Marcus Rashford will retire at United. I just eagerly await the next year his contract is up for renewal because then we will get his maximum effort.

I get the feeling he'd do very well elsewhere for a time, would have fans on here moaning and crying about what we did to him (like Sancho and his one performance last night), but then a year or two later he'd probably struggle for form and there'd be people saying we were right to sell him.

One of the problems with Rashford and the way fans perceive his talent is that we want someone, for that wage and status, to be on the level of Henry or Salah in terms of consistency in goals and assists- like season in and season out 25-30 goals- and it's probably not going to happen at this stage.

No worry. Arsenal can't afford his salary and everyone can see Rashford excel in counter attacking system/fast transition football, just like the current tactics employed by Real Madrid, which works well against possession football.

Just last season, but he looks so much leaner and quicker. And more passionate.

If you could guarantee this Rashford next season I'd keep him. But this highlights how far he's fallen off

What is the right way? Because if he asked and then played him after he didn't apologise, he might as well have resigned because none of the squad would have had any respect at all, so I am wondering what he should have done in your opinion

Yeah he's only ever performed when it's contract renewal time. No other time.
