Martial's partner gives birth and the resultant hell from two warring factions

I see him as a real talent but what's the use of such talent if you're gonna be so unprofessional about it.

Get rid and spend the money on another signing who's willing to play for the club and not himself.

I was in favour of selling Martial when his agent made comments about leaving but the way he has gone about forcing the move makes me want to make the example out of him stick him the reserves till he apologises for his conduct and dock his wages so that other players think twice before pulling such stunts if it ever comes to this type of situation again assuming that he has certainly gone awol rather than press making stories again.

It's not even like any club is desperate to sign him and we are blocking his move.

Not buying it at the moment. This might just be journalists putting things together and making it out as if its fact.

Can the club fine a player for taking time off for a child? Aren't they bound by law to give him time off if he chooses?

From the history of comments made, his agent seem to be a complete sh*thead that make Raiola look like the most virtuous saint. Constantly with those crappy remarks and half covered threats, pretty much just comments that sour the mood and sow mistrust.

There may have been some interest but may be our stance of him not for sale atleast earlier may have put them off , lets hope Club doesn't back down if he goes it should only be on our own terms.

This is absolutely ridiculous  How much more time does he need off? Just for comparison, Morata came back 2 days after twins birth.

I wouldn't mind just sitting him at home for the next two years and letting him leave on a free.

No club writes off 60m plus to teach someone a lesson.

Do find it amusing we have people in the Jose thread saying the press are just digging up dirt for clicks and it's all bollocks, but are happy to take any criticism of Martial as gospel.

It appears he has no interest in playing for Jose, but just as with KDB at Chelsea, Jose has slowly set the fans against him with vague problems about mentality and professionalism etc.

The board need to decide what they want, if they are backing Jose back him and sell Martial. If they have doubts about selling him, tell Jose so, and if he has his meltdown so be it. They either trust him or they don't.

Spurs fancied Martial for £30m, but they live in dreamland where their training facilities can pry players from Madrid and Barca.

I usually don't give grief to agents because mostly they are doing their Client's bidding if player doesn't want his agent to act certain way they generally won't.

Agreed. We have invested 58m in him. If he leaves, it should be on our terms. This reminds me a bit of the Di Maria transfer to PSG. But I think Jose won't just let him leave like LVG did.

To be honest all I'm seeing in this thread is Mourinho apologists making excuses and reinventing history to justify his treatment of players.

Hope they enjoy the meltdown when it comes.

That's basically what it's devolved into, the people who swear loyalty on a man who had Paul Pogba benched for 2 knockout CL ties attacking any and everyone not willing to lap up whatever venom they have reserved for the scapegoat du-jour

They're like amoeba attacking cells and the cells are anyone that Jose has an issue with.

I’m pro Martial, very much so but if he’s really not reported back to Carrington then he’s a complete idiot. Doesn’t really encourage another club to go big for him if this is how he acts when unhappy.

He's always come across as a precocious talent to me. He knows how good he is, but thinks he doesn't have to continue to prove it. There were widespread stories in the media about issues in his personal life which coincided with a dip in form, the issues around his number being taken, being played out of position, etc. Even when he has had a decent run in the side we've criticised him for lack of effort. When he's on his game, he really is a special player, but the hit rate of good to bad games is poor.

Being a dad myself I can understand that he wants to be home with his family, but he's a professional in an increasingly fickle sport where you're examined minutely by the press and the fans, and where he's privileged to be earning a shedload of cash by dint of a quirk of genetics that happens to make him skillful with a ball. Attitude is so important in football, so he must know that making a personal sacrifice to return to the team can only be to his credit. Nobody comes out of this debacle looking good, and assuming he wants to move on this sort of behaviour isn't exactly going to curry favour with potential suitors. There are only a few players who've truly been able to mesh arrogance with their talent - Zlatan and Cantona being examples - but they're players who turned up and performed regardless of personal setbacks.

I think the best thing for Martial and United would be for him to spend a season on loan at a club where he's near his family and where he's guaranteed first-team games. Spend that year working on his attitude and his relationship with the club, and getting in a good place mentally before returning and fighting for his place. It won't happen though because I fear he believes that a loan spell would be below him (and he might be right). Unless there's an overnight change in his attitude and working relationships, the inevitable outcome is half a season sat on the bench followed by a transfer in January for a fraction of his true value and then a season or two of the fans bemoaning how he's succeeding at a different club.

This much is true, they would probably not act on their own rogue ideas to ruin the positions of their player, but if so then that would make the situation even worse and put more blame on the player.

What is this to prove?
I guess the point is that under UK law he's entitled to two weeks of paid (at the statutory minimum) paternity leave. Unless it's written into his contract - and that would not supersede the law - the club could not fine him for not returning to work within that two week period. Semantically though, they could just pay him the minimum £145 per week, which would be tantamount to a large fine.

So Anthony martial is missing  probably moved to Spur’s training ground. GlastonSpur will shed a light on the matter

You have no idea what you've done, this thread will be ruined now.

Most are pro-Mourinho on this issue after this recent unforgivable stunt yes and rightfully so – I’m talking throughout his Utd career. Nothing but excuses for inconsistency and blatant lack of effort. This is the Martial thread – It’s about Martial and his case is different to any other player as he’s literally refusing to train. There’s no comparison. Any excuse made for that is disgraceful and is pretty irrelevant to the manager. He’s refusing to show up for the club that pay his wages. He should be fined and sold ASAP – Cancerous behaviour.

Tell me how I revised history in my post – Please explain. Any meltdown wont change my views on Martial – He’s had his chances and not taken them and now he’s sulking in the most unprofessional way possible. Anyone excusing that needs to get a grip.

Why does this apply to Martial when his partner, unless I've read wrong, gave birth to a child in Paris which as of quote sometime, is located in France..not the UK.

too late to swap him for Mbappe?

Why on earth would PSG swap Mbappe for Martial?

People need to chill and not react to tweets and quotes made up by so called journalists.
Didn't his wife have complications? Could be valid reasons why he is staying away. Plus none of you have any idea
what kind of work or training he is doing while away.

But the lack of clear communication from him and the club is really bad. Wonder how this shitshow will end.

In theory I would be on your side but like everyone else, you know absolutely nothing and Mourinho said nothing. So what is turning you off?

Based on Mourinho saying he doesn't know if he'll be back when asked about his status. Even if Martial wife / baby are having issues, god forbid that is not the case, then that does not prevent him contacting the club, manager, anyone with his status. When Mourinho deferred the original question to the press secretary, if they knew am sure that would have been disseminated but, it was deferred to them in a way suggesting even they had no clue. Again this is my opinion based on my own values, yes, the birth of my children was monumentally important, more important than anything else but, given his current status, that he is not a shoe in, in his position, I'd have been back fighting tooth and nail, that's the type of mentality I expect from a United player. This is not a run of a mill job and professionals sacrifice a lot to be the best. Am sure others disagree and have a different view but, for me it definitely puts me off.

He is forcing a move. He already announced his intention to leave 2 months ago, and it is not happening, so he is doing his best to make it happen with only less than a week to go. I don't blame him. I bet he will move to Chelsea to play as one of the front 3 striker for Sarri.

Because he's an employee of a UK company, so UK rights apply to him. I don't think there are any stipulations on statutory paternity leave regarding where the baby was born.

Knowing Gaston, it will be something along the lines of

“ I always said he fancied Spurs. My ITK told me he has posters of Pienaar and Kranjçar on his bedroom wall. Currently Martial can be found setting up camp outside Spurs training ground admiring the high quality astro pitch and Harry Kane stretching his calves, more to follow”.

He wants to leave, the club won't let him.

If it were me, I'd damn well be taking my paternity leave.

I don't care how Mourinho has "treated" him, the club having no clue about his location right now is a shocking lack of professionalism.

There's more than a week left to go.

He also has the potential to leave after the English window shuts.

Who told you that he didn't contact the club, as far as I can see Mourinho said that he doesn't know if he will be back when they return, nothing else. We are creating theories based on the sentence "I don't know.". Maybe he went AWOL, maybe he hasn't, that information hasn't been shared by the club.
