About 5-10 years too late but right move.

I wish him well in his future endeavours.

In his pomp he was great, him and Andy Gray are up there as probably the greatest duo to ever do it. But since Gray was sacked from Sky he hasn't been at it.

Find his voice quite irritating, but I don’t mind the fact he meanders a bit with needless details and stats.

Long past due unfortunately, but I thought he was great in his prime. He has sounded very flat over the last few years but sitting next to Carragher week-in week-out would do that to anyone.

Hope he’s able to enjoy his retirement. I wonder who’ll replace him? I think Peter Drury is a little over-rated, but the general perception seems to be that he’s the best around at the moment from what I see on Twitter. Maybe they’ll try and get him to make the jump over to Sky.

How are we going to know if the game is live or not?
When they used to throw to ad break after he said that it kind of made sense but then they stopped and it was just followed by a bit of an awkward silence before they carried on as if they wanted to pretend it didn't happen.

I'll never get the great and game changing goals we'd score against Arsenal he'd commentate on like he was reading out a menu

Thread is two years old and the Cnut is still rabbiting on on Sky. He should have been put out to grass several years ago, however personally I have always found him to be one of the worse and annoying commentators in the game, can’t stand him.
Excellent news today though now have a long and happy retirement.

He was decent back in the day with Andy Gray. But his time has come to leave .

He always made games on sky sports so dramatic compared to covering a fa cup game on premier sports. You could fall asleep listening to him covering it like he didn’t want to be doing it and that producers weren’t expecting him to make the game exciting .

I feel like every fan group thinks he hates their team and supports their rivals.

I didn't mind him, I've definitely had to listen to way worse. The "and it's live" was tough to listen to time after time, but generally I think he was pretty good no?

He's clearly always loved a narrative, and I think in recent years he's done a crap job at hiding it when the game isn't going to his chosen narrative.

Yea he and Andy Gray were the best duo around. Tyler is a worse commentator without him.

It's annoying.
Know people who swear he hates Liverpool and loves us.
Yet just up this thread someone insists he supports Arsenal and looks down on us.

He's never not sounded pissed off when we score against Arsenal. Regardless of context.

He sold Rashford's wonder goal with all the passion I have in his performance thread when he's played well

Replace him with Lee Dixon

Someone scores a last minute goal to win the league… “oh I see. Ok then”

Most of Sky commentary are very stale. Commentators tend to stay in the job for years, there's nobody new and decent coming through.

Watching a rerun of United vs Fulham that’s on Sky Sports right now….got to say it’s so much better with them on comms. It’s a bit of a crap match but you wouldn’t know it

Martin Tyler is an all-time great commentator. But he should have retired 7-8 years ago. People calling him shit are like saying Rooney was shit because he was poor in his last few seasons.

The lack of enthusiasm thing being an ‘agenda’ against their club online was tedious. By the end he didn’t have enthusiasm for much at all. I think he struggled to match the moment the words and the emotions together. He’s 77 years old, it was a good run.

Gets on my nerves that he liked to be seen as chummy with various players, but not with others. "Bobbie" Firmino, or "Trent" AA, anyone? Makes you puke!

Should have quit years ago as has been pointed out.
And he apparently had a real talent for making every fanbase think he hates their team (How anyone can watch a game of ours he's been commentating on and tell me he doesn't sound bummed when we score is beyond me. Martial vs Liverpool was the last time he was excited about a Utd goal. the cnut)

I can't think of him and not think about Agueroooooooo.
feck him.

I think Sky have some really underrated commentators and pundits covering the lower leagues, hope one of them gets a shot at the PL.

Giggsy’s winner in the epic 1999 FA cup semi final against Arsenal was when Gray and Tyler complimented each other beautifully.
