It’s a case of if you don’t ask, you don’t get. If we have to stick to the 2yrs, it won’t be a deal breaker, but if they can extend it, happy days (for cash flow), nothing more than a negotiating stance that’s all.

This cannot be news to United, so they are just trying their luck in the hope Wolves do them a favour.

When was the last time we signed a player from the Premier League who was coming off a genuinely great season? The only one that comes to mind is Lukaku. Since then, most of our Premier League signings have either been hopeful bets—like Sánchez or Mount, banking on them rediscovering past form—or underwhelming moves like Schneiderlin or Wan-Bissaka, who never truly lived up to expectations.

Because it frees up more funds for additional targets?
But doesn’t it all catch up to us. Like there might be a month where we have to pay for 3 signings because of instalments on them all etc. it’s like when you order stuff and pay monthly or whatever it all catches up

Sky Sports reporting that we have offered to pay the release clause over 5 years, I cant see Wolves being happy with that if true.

So we just chanced it with the 5 year thing and now we're just paying up?

Worth having a go, I spose.

There had been optimism that agreeing a payment structure will be a formality, with Cunha’s contract outlining that a transfer fee is paid across three instalments — a first lump sum upon the signing and a further two equal shares over the next two years — although United had sought to make the payment over five years rather than two.

There is hope a deal can be struck for when the transfer window opens on June 1, and while Wolves want Cunha’s clause paid in full, there is scope for instalments.

Seems like Wolves have allowed a medical to take place and there will be a compromise on instalments between what is currently in the contract and what United first offered.

Billy Harrison in 1920 and Jim McCalliog in 1974. It doesn't happen that often. Neither won a trophy with us.
They say it can only happen every 50 years.

Nice to have one in the bag so early, moving with the requisite urgency we need after that season from hell.

Very excited to get an exciting Brazilian in the team

Nice to get it done early of course, and on paper he looks a good purchase. Beyond that I reserve judgement on all new signings until they've played a dozen games or so.

Great way to kick off the window, identified a target and got him in early, it's essential all the signings get a full pre season

Love his arrogance. ‘ he hasn’t come here to compete for top 5’ he’s come here to compete for the title

Hope the medical is done quickly and announced by end of week. Not that there is a rush but it’s that statement on intent, it makes us look serious about changing our fortunes and makes other players more likely to want to come.

I give it a week before he wants out :smirk: Sanchez only needed an hour!

Only joking, United need a bit of arrogance and swagger...great signing imo!
