Newcastle surely cant be that stupid to want to sign depay (transfer tweets thread). Talk about derailing your own season by signing a mediocre primmadonna who thinks tracking back is a left back for turkey.

He wasn't good enough first time so lets not go there.

There's a saying in life....Never go back to your ex. You parted ways for a good reason. Hahahaha.

Mark Hughes in fairness did leave and come back and do very well for us but he didn't flop for us first time round like Depay did.

Don't think we will go there again after what happened last time. Stories of him being a big time Charlie at training came out and he's not really done much since leaving us. Been a total flop at Barca who seem pretty desperate to see him leave.

It's a no from me.

Seriously, if ETH thinks he can do the job. Who are you to think otherwise? ETH is a no nonsense manager and both being Dutch, I would expect ETH will clearly tell him what is expected. I wouldn't mind Depay as a short term back up. Maybe a loan deal for 6 month and if he does we'll, we could sign him for 2 years deal.

If this happens, it'll go the same way as it did the first time around and it'll just confirm the ETH is LVG 2.0.

It's the litmus test of all dutch managers.

I'd only have him as a stopgap loan, may as well give Charlie McNeill minutes instead if we think Depay could do a job

Of course he'll be avaiable on a loan deal from Barca, they'll love the idea.

I don't think there's a player I want to less play up front for us.

Christiano Ronaldo?
Getting back to Depay, he is a cheap loan deal for six months which will bulk out the squad and suit the Glazer's. With Gapko on his way to Liverpool it's either Depay or Felix on loan for six months for United.
I would prefer Felix but expect to see Depay.

Yeah, I'd rather we'd just stuck with CR than get Depay, but that was never an option after he did what he did.

There have got to be other options to Depay, and if sticks to his ETH mantra is it has to be the right player, not just any player, then he won't be joining imo.

DePay is actually awful, at least Felix had the excuse of playing for a negative team. DePay is just egotistical, lazy, had a terrible attitude towards training and his team. I thought we were trying to move away from Ronaldo-likes. Has all the negatives of Ronaldo without the actual hard work and talent.

If any of this was remotely true, Van Gaal wouldn’t allow him anywhere within a 10k radius of his team.

What is this based on? I've seen his dodgy music career but he seems to apply himself on the pitch pretty well these days. I'd want us to sign better yes but realistically there might not be anyone better available.

He did? Don't think that's ever been a problem at his other clubs. I think his main problems are his poor decision making, inconsistency and the fact he only performs when given absolute confidence and freedom to feck around as he pleases on the pitch. His training effort has been great everywhere generally (can't speak for his time at OT) and he has never been an ounce overweight. Well unless being too muscular counts.

On a free I think he wouldn't be an terrible option from the bench for United really.

Probably the best we'll do in the current circumstances.

Would be decent back up to martial who is the main man for now. Depay's improved his hold up, and uses his backside well.

Let's say "certain" players get this label if they have an outgoing personality or have tattoos. It's probably more accurate about Rooney for example who had weight / drinking issues throughout his career and was finished by 30.

We are still in 4 competitions and playing twice a week until the end of the season. We just need the best extra "body" available and Memphis is probably that. I doubt there is a striker better than Martial we can sign in Jan.

Wouldn't mind him on a free as an 18 month deal while we prioritize CM and GK. Can rotate with Martial effectively and gives us a lot of good qualities that fit. It's giving Martial a proper chance rather than spending 100m on a risk up top and ignoring the midfield.

We really need to push on in the summer though with another 150m though. Need to bring in one of Frenkie or Enzo for midfield, Diogo Costa in goal, would be very happy with them 2. I'd love Joao Felix as I think he could be world class in the right system, but he's going to be very expensive and that's only possible if we get taken over soon and we're able to do 250-300m in one summer.

I’m willing to bet Felix joins Chelsea, we sign Depay - there’s a huge online meltdown as usual - and in the next 5 months he outscores both Gakpo and Felix.
Agreed.

If Depay gets say 20 starts for us this season, I'm saying he scores 7 or 8 goals which would be fine.

He's really a decent experienced forward. People are letting narratives cloud their judgement here. He flopped as a winger here because he lacked the pace and intelligence to dominate Prem fullbacks and was a young kid who couldn't adapt his game. His game now is different and his strength and technique is valuable as centre forward. His goalscoring record since United is pretty consistent.

Depay would be a huge step backwards for this club.
Nah he'd be good cover for Martial offering similar qualities and competition on a short and cheap deal. It's unrealistic to expect another big signing now after what we spent in the summer.

Not signing anyone and missing out on top 4 would be a bigger one.
Exactly. I'm not suggesting Depay is a great option, but he's certainly better than hoping Martial doesn't get injured or lose form.

If Depay can come in and do a decent job for 18 months I'm not against it.

What are the other options if there's no plan to spend?

2nd highest Netherlands goal scorer isn’t a bad stat.

If he comes in hopefully can do the business and score some very important goals. Ideally we need 2 strikers but we’ll be lucky to get 1 at this point.

Our current choices are try to boost our attacking options while we still can, or as u suggest, cross our fingers and hope no-one gets injured -or loses form- for the remainder of the season.

So if its Depay or no-one, then I choose Depay. Same goes for Felix. Any deal we can make that improves our chances of a top 4 finish simply has to be done in my view.

Andy mitten said I’m in September that Barcelona were willing to let Memphis leave on a free to get him off the wage bill

So it could be possible, but would Memphis want to leave Barcelona just to sit on United bench instead? Can’t see him starting the big matches ahead of a fit Martial
