MEN banned from the press conference today | Some journalists banned for running articles without approaching United for comment first

Because in this day and age of internet and social media, it's easy for anyone to write absolute crap and send it worldwide within seconds. Doesn't mean the more serious media outlets are like that.
Ok, so in that case the club as an entity and business are in the right to ban such crap.
Exactly this. We haven't banned freedom of speech by not allowing the journalists in the conference. They can still spew whatever shit they want. They just lost certain privileges due to a lack of journalistic integrity.

That it's quite possible that the reports are true and that United have banned journalists because the club didn't like it.

Well in that case United should ban all media outlet not just the 'chosen' few. When have you seen anything positive written about united in the past few years?

Andrew Ward who pulled the plug on them. Has been the Director of Media Relations & Public Affairs for United since Feb 2022.

He was 19 years as a journalist with the Financial Times so knows how these chaps works especially the tabloid muck.

Now that would be chaos that will place the entire media against United. Easier to ban a few journalists who printed something negative today and wait and see if it had an intimidating effect on everyone.

No, it's reported that some players are losing confidence. Not the same thing.
It's being reported that players are not wanting to run, that isolated players are training really well, that ten hags methods are questioned and so on. It's all the same types of briefs in different words. And it's happened with every manager by the same journalists. It's really not hard to tell what's going on with them.

The desperation of the Ten Hag cultists in this thread is hilarious.

According to them, it’s the duty of the Manchester Evening News, a respectable local media outlet with a proud tradition of independent reporting that is older than Manchester United football club as we know it, to do United’s PR for them. If you want solely positive media coverage of United, MUTV is right there! It specialises in this sort of them.

Accoring to the Ten Hag cultists, a journalist that keeps their sources anonymous is simply making things up and the only way they can be truthful is if they name their sources and expose them to severe career consequences that will essentially make them unemployable.

According to the Ten Hag cultists, it’s a bad thing that journalists are briefed that squad morale is at all time low but it is totally fine that journalists are briefed character assasinations on players that have been victims of an abuse of power by this egotistical control-freak of a manager. They perfectly happy to accept the briefings they like as factual, but they cast doubt on the credibility of those that go against their agenda.

Is it not the duty of us, as fans, to know both the good and bad that is happening at United internally? Or would you rather have your heads buried in the sand without an explanation as to why we have been so awful.

An honest question to the Ten Hag cultists. Who is your first loyalty to? Is it to Manchester United, the club that has brought you happiness for decades? Or to a manager that is treating OUR club like his personal little dictatorship? Why should we allow him to drag our reputation and standards through the mud with his illogical tactical decisions and shambolic squad management?

Because the players are to blame? We’re all with you on that one. They aren’t good enough. But isn’t it the manager’s job to keep them onboard and coach them to success?

Or should we accept Ten Hag disrespecting this club by treating it like his dictatorship because “there is no alternative” and “we need to end this cycle of hiring and firing”? By this logic, managers from Moyes to Ole should not have been fired.

Please use your logic, rationality and common sense and put the interests of United first. Ten Hag’s persistence with the same disgusting tactics with the same repeated flaws have shown us enough that he cannot be trusted and his position is untenable.

If this mutiny is necessary in order to accelerate his sacking then sobeit. The season is already a write off with this manager and we should start preparing for the next one without him.

I am sorry - but that is just BS from the club. Let's just say that these writers are correct - and any of them go to United and ask for a comment - what will United say ? That there isn't an inch of truth in the stories. It reminds me of that story with OGS and the Spurs-rumours in 97-98. In a moment of frustration during an international break - OGS told a local reporter that he thought of leaving United due to lack of game-time. The reporter whose paper was the equivalent to Stockport Daily or Salford Gazette - thought he had got the scoop of a lifetime, whereas OGS realized that the comment would not go down well with Ferguson so he backtracked. The reporter printed the story and OGS claimed it was a lie - but admitted several years later that it was correct, and that he had felt really bad about accusing the reporter of lying but he feared Ferguson would kick him out.

United, just like reporters will say and do what is best for them - and even if there are 5-6-7 players who want ETH gone - they will of course never admit it. So if you print a story like this - true or not, there is no point to contact the club -. because the club will deny it - true or not.

You'd have a point if it was just some random journalists. Luckhurst has been covering Utd for 10 years, he knows exactly what he's doing. This is what he thought of SAF banning journalists over 10 years ago.

His ban is long overdue.

A win (rare) for the club then. I still don't understand what your gripe with this is. I am not going to respond anymore so lets move on.

You might want to take a look at the state of reporting in the social media age. The MEN, like most traditional press, has become unrecognizable from the likes of buzzfeed etc. Their business model is entirely based on driving clicks and the best and most surefire way to do that is through negative coverage of United because that not only attracts supporters but a global audience of fans of other clubs who love to revel in our misery. The concept of fact checking stories and verifying sources has completely fallen by the wayside and the notion of offering the club the chance to respond to or dispute their articles is ignored for the very reason that they know 99% of what they publish is horseshit and could be irrefutably proven false by the club thereby leaving them with nothing to print unless they want to risk legal action for printing lies after they have been given the proof their story is false.

FYI, I am no ETH cultist and I lean strongly towards the view that he is out of his depth and difficult as it will be we probably will need to take another shot at finding the right guy.

Genuine question: are you Jason Sancho?

Even if they do ask for a comment from the club who says they can't run the exact same stories? Just add at the end that Manchester United denies these claims and you're good to go.

Don't think this was the right move. feck the journalists, but as far as they're concerned, they've done a damn good job getting that story, and it's not a made up one because it's obviously a leak from inside the club to several journalists. In this specific story, asking the club for a comment wouldn't have made a difference at all. What were we going to say?

We're happy here with the ban but what will it achieve? All the journalists now will pile on the club. ETH will get even more negative press, and the circus will just keep going.

What we need to do is find out who keeps leaking stories, and get them out of the club regardless to what happens to ETH. Banning journalists now isn't the best approach. People will say Fergie did it, but he did it from a point of strength, we're at rock bottom.

I Hag out, but this is ridiculous.

Supporting the team and the manager = ten hag cultist. This fan base is so weird at times.

We finally found out Sancho's username on the caf.

Yes they are. That's why we are trying to make them accountable. You want to write bull shit well you're going to be held accountable. It's about time we got back to that. For to long we have been letting anyone write whatever they want without any truth to it. They make money off of us printing these articles. If they want to make money the dirty way then they are not welcome to our press conferences any more.

Solhekol and Luckhurst are pricks of the highest order.

Perfect. Time to create a seige mentality.

I don’t know why anybody would side against the club here. This is absolutely the right move to assert the interests of the club and team.
Now those journalists taking liberties with their words know the club aren’t a walk over, and won’t allow it any more.
And it’s not a freedom of press issue because the club isn’t stifling the whole media, just those who are hostile to the club and not going about their. The press conference will still be reported, even by those publications banned.

And that's the comical part of those decrying this - The banned reporters could still watch the press conference! They just couldn't be there to ask questions! And they'll still write their tripe, just as they would have done had they been there.

As for those who believe they'll crank it up a notch on the negative United reporting... I find that hard to believe. They don't write much positive in the first place. We don't have the acronym ABU for no reason. They're just recycling the same rumours. And we don't really believe much of it anyway and make fun of them for it. I mean, seriously... if you're defending that list of banned reporters, take a good long look at your own life choices.

It's not like we need those reporters to tell us what went on at the press conference anyway. We can watch it ourselves. We can even go on YouTube and watch reaction videos from guys that watched it, but also weren't there because they were never allowed in the first place.

The hand-wringing from this is outlandish.

That said, I do hope the banned reporters at least think once about dredging any gossip out of their so-called sources (Jadon Sancho *cough* *cough*) and actually do some real footwork and analysis. I do hope this is what ten Hag or the PR crew were aiming for when they did this. I don't believe either of those, though.
