The pulling power of Phil Neville.
Imagine five years ago someone told you that one day Messi would be managed by Phil Neville.
Can Messi speak English? I know in Miami you don’t have to, but has he made any attempts to learn English or is he going there ‘blind’?
Won’t be surprised if Ronaldo joins him there once he realises that no decent side in Europe wants him.
He says he understands but doesn't speak it.
He doesn't need permission to do what he wantsCan he enter to US?

Messi probably doesn't want to play until he's 40 and I think he doesn't want to have a fall from grace in his latter years so he'll wind things down in the US and make paper before riding off into the sunsetI'm pretty sure Spanish is more common than English in Miami
Either way, it's beyond testament to Messi, that a 5'7 ultra high usage attacking third people is making people surprised that he might and likely is open to this move at 35.... almost anyone else going past 30, forget 35, has height and truly doesn't command the ball much on top, or aren't required to deliver that often. Will be interesting to see how far Neymar can push it though.
Technically he checked out last year at 33 when he chose the farmers league, where he played part timeI'm pretty sure Spanish is more common than English in Miami

That’s a horrendous move. He may not be who he was but this is a bit premature
He can make a real crack at the American market as more than a mystical enigma by speaking English. I know he doesn’t have to do a single thing in that department if he doesn’t wish to, but it’s really easy money for a little bit of graft, if that matters to him at all. There’s an absolutely ripe market for him interviewing in English, too. Talkshow circuit, one-on-one interviews etc. it’s a goldmine.I'm pretty sure Spanish is more common than English in Miami

re your height point. I think appetite for the whole shebang has players retire a lot more often than not being up to par anymore. Players talk about mental fatigue, disinterest in the rigamarole of training and preseason, being away from their families or even falling out love with the game. Miami is a perfect semi-retirement home with a potentially enormous pay off to boot; it’s not that Messi hasn’t got a couple more seasons in him at CL-level, it’s that he probably doesn’t want ‘it’ anymore.
And he’s too good for the MLS? Age is a number, it’s at least a season too earlyIs it? He'll be 36 when he moves.
He’s Messi, his awkwardness would be an idiosyncratic quirk; endearing because it can be perceived as humility etc. he interviews well enough in Spanish, imo. If he was confident in his English, I don’t think he’d be much different to that. Make no mistake, him being Messi and having an adoring audience who have followed him for decades, ensures viewing figures, intrigue and interest just to have his take on things. I’ve seen a few of his extended Spanish interviews and he is insightful - there’s character there.Dude would need more than English lessons to make the media rounds in America work. He's beyond awkward in those situations and never looks comfortable. Big market for sure, but I doubt he cares, otherwise he'd be a bit of a natural interviewee by now.
Yeah, I dunno, I'll miss him when he's gone, but those PSG tickets gonna be expensive if this is the final dance in Europe, a trip I kinda fancied doing.
