Was really hoping he'd have another season in Europe at least. Gutted.
I always thought Inter Miami would try really hard for him at some point to be their marquee/franchise player. Beckham, the adidas connection, a Latin fanbase, a nice post-Europe ‘retirement’ for Messi… there were lots of indications it would be great for both parties.

Speaking some English can further aid him in filling the coffers with the green stuff. Wonder if he’s arsed about that.

Either way, it's beyond testament to Messi, that a 5'7 ultra high usage attacking third people is making people surprised that he might and likely is open to this move at 35.... almost anyone else going past 30, forget 35, has height and truly doesn't command the ball much on top, or aren't required to deliver that often. Will be interesting to see how far Neymar can push it though.

He can make a real crack at the American market as more than a mystical enigma by speaking English. I know he doesn’t have to do a single thing in that department if he doesn’t wish to, but it’s really easy money for a little bit of graft, if that matters to him at all. re your height point. I think appetite for the whole shebang has players retire a lot more often than not being up to par anymore. Players talk about mental fatigue, disinterest in the rigamarole of training and preseason, being away from their families or even falling out love with the game. Miami is a perfect semi-retirement home with a potentially enormous pay off to boot; it’s not that Messi hasn’t got a couple more seasons in him at CL-level, it’s that he probably doesn’t want ‘it’ anymore.

Dude would need more than English lessons to make the media rounds in America work. He's beyond awkward in those situations and never looks comfortable. Big market for sure, but I doubt he cares, otherwise he'd be a bit of a natural interviewee by now.
Yeah, I dunno, I'll miss him when he's gone, but those PSG tickets gonna be expensive if this is the final dance in Europe, a trip I kinda fancied doing.

He’s Messi, his awkwardness would be an idiosyncratic quirk; endearing because it can be perceived as humility etc. he interviews well enough in Spanish, imo. If he was confident in his English, I don’t think he’d be much different to that. Make no mistake, him being Messi and having an adoring audience who have followed him for decades, ensures viewing figures, intrigue and interest just to have his take on things. I’ve seen a few of his extended Spanish interviews and he is insightful - there’s character there.
But yeah, it’s entirely optional. He doesn’t have to learn a jot of English and will still be adored in Miami.
