Gaming Metroid

2.5D is pants, a Super Metroid remake or sequel should have and deserves a hand-drawn style like Rayman Origins, Ori and the Blind Forest or Cuphead. Now that would be amazing

In fact you've probably best described what I'd like a remake to look like.

Super Metroid's locations in this style/aesthetic would be so good

I've heard Prime will be remade followed by Super Metroid. Was some bloke on YouTube.

The greatest game ever??? If only, Elv.
The Metroid Prime Trilogy HD already been remastered on the Wii U and will probably get remastered at some point for the Switch, it's no remake, also the sequel is already announced for the Switch, as for Super Metroid, I see a new game rather than a remake is all.

Completed Samus Returns, a really fecking great game. Couple of minor grievances (also the digger boss was shite), but overall a really enjoyable game. And fecking tough too.

@Spoony you would like it.

So an insider on ResetEra said 2D Metroid is coming this year to the Switch and it won't be a remake, it will be a new game.

I want the Metroid Trilogy on Switch, Metroid Prime 4, a new 2D Metroid and a Super Metroid remake please.

Speaking of games like Metroid, I’ve been playing hollow knight for the last week and it’s brilliant. 25 hours to complete the main story and loads left to do which is massive for an indie game

Hollow Knight is probably one of my top 5 games ever. Loved every minute of it.

Yeah it started off a bit slow and wasn’t too hot on it for the first hour or two, but I’m hooked now!

Top top game, I have the late @Kapardin to thank for turning me onto it. Silksong, the DLC that became a whole new game is on its way this year, I can't wait to get back into the hollow.

Givet Axiom Verge a go, for you Metroid fans, its the closest thing to Metroid in feel. So good. Made by a one person team. Episode two is in the works.

8 hours in(yes 8) I was about to give up on it, but I finished it and now it's among my top 5 Metroid like games.

I'd always heard of Metroid being one of main Nintendo titles. Never knew it looked like an indie game like Dead Cells! Then again, I should have guessed given all the so called metroidvania games are 2d sidescrollers.

What's with the snobbery towards indie games in general?

One of Microsoft's best games is an indie game ffs. Being faithful to the genre means they don't have to go all out on graphics (although to be fair Ori and the Will of the Wisps is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played).

Technically Returnal on PS5 is indie and that game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen.

I thought we'd moved past the good graphics = good games.

Do you think of 2D Mario as indie games as well?

In this day and age it's quite indie-esque given the possibilities of hardware these days. No that it matters - quality does. Braid and Hollow Knight are two absolutely phenomenal 2D indie games that are as good as nearly any AAA games I've played. I was just pointing out that the name Metroid is quite big and I think flagship game for Nintendo and it just struck me from watching this new trailor that its a 2D sidescroller.

I love me some indie games. I just for some reason didn't think one of Nintendo's major titles looked like one. Dumb of me given this title (and another) has a genre named after it which all look like that.

Yeah, side scrolling 2d games are ubiquitous with the genre.

You can class some 3d games as metroidvania, but personally I don't. Some people class the Arkham games, Jedi Fallen Order, Souls series as metroidvania games.

There are also 3D Metroid games though.
