Can see why he gave it based on his angle seeing the hands on the back. Vazquez stopped dead though and there was next to no force so I don’t think it was a penalty.

Why be a referee when football supporters (and players) are thick as feck?

I'm baffled by the furore, really am. It isn't even debateable.

I reckon if the situation was reversed, uefa refs would probably gave up their career before showing a penalty against Real Madrid.

Thought he got it right and might've sent Benatia off as well.

Even from your interpretation of the incident Benatia would be unfairly stopping a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Doesn't take much to push him off balance though.
Its like Pogbas red v Arsenal, how is the player supposed to adjust his challenge to an unorthodox manoeuvre?
Still a pen but its incredibly harsh.

Oliver will w*nk off to that game for the rest of his life. The amount of eyes on him after that red card, it's what he dreams of.

Shite ref but at least he got an important decision right for once.

Think he could have calmed the situation down without sending Buffon off. But he lacks the stature.

All game Ronaldo was in his ear and it was working.

Shocking decision - a really soft penalty and one that Oliver certainly wouldn't have given had it been at the other end. A complete cnut who should never be allowed on a pitch. Pity Buffon didn't sign off his CL career by sorting Oliver out.

Even though the penalty is defendable, you just know he wouldn't give it to Juve were it the other way around. Besides that, he rewarded the constant diving way too much.

Nonsense, that is a foul anywhere on the pitch. Being in the box it’s a penalty.

The salt is really tasty. Specially considering how every non Madrid fan was very happy with Oliver's decisions......until he called that penalty.

Thing is. . . I'm pretty sure that Oliver could have sent off all of those Juventus players protesting.

So why did he choose Buffon?

Because he wanted to be the centre of attention. . . The guy who sent off Buffon in his last ever CL match.

Difference is Bellerin threw himself in Pogba's way and Pogba had nowhere to go. Benatia threw himself into Vasquez.

It was the right decision and a massively brave one to make at that stage of the game.

What’s nonsense?

He’s right. Oliver would never have given that to Juve last min at the Bernabeu.
Which, of course, is the overarching point...

What Oliver may or may not do in your hypothetical world of fiction is irrelevant.

It was a penalty and a sending off. That's the reality.

The problem is not the incident itself, bu the way he controls the game!!! Why? Because he let Madrid players dived all game without punishment. Oliver let Real Madrid attempt to affect flow of the game: dive in hope of getting freekick and keep the ball when they're in a pinch

Juventus players got frustrated so unlike they would be able to keep their head even if the incident is penalty worthy. Getting one good call ain't the same as good enough reffing the whole game.

It’s nonsense saying it was a shocking decision. It was a clear penalty. Your comment is a pure hypothetical and has no relevance to the decision actually made. Which was correct.

This must be the first time I've seen swathes of people criticise a referee for a completely fictional decision he didn't have to make.

Because he was screaming in face from an inch away ffs.

I don't understand how anyone can have any sympathy with him he was acting like an absolute cnut and got what he deserved.
