Yeah the 'black sheep' of the family. Doesn't really play it as a nutjob, very nuanced performance by him overall.
I just watched the first 4 episodes, and while I quite liked the pilot, I've become less and less interested with every subsequent episode. Is this as good as the show gets?
Pretty much. There is one episode (7 or 8th I don't recall which gives in a little surprise), but the rest of it is pretty meh. The finale is god awful .
Yep, the pilot was great but it doesn't sustain it. Prepare to end up underwhelmed.
Personally I think it gets better, and more surreal as wel.
I thought the first episode was quite mesmerizing but then the entertainment-value dropped for me. Too much of that hallucinating/dream stuff.
I thought the pilot was the best and yeah I had the same feeling as you. Didn't feel it got better as it went along, at times it got very silly and rips off other stuff. A lot of people disagree though and enjoyed it, you should at least finish it as it's not too long so you can make up your own opinion on it.
I think it stays very strong throughout the season but I'd also agree the pilot was the best episode. That doesn't make the rest poor, the pilot is simply incredible.

Can't see it being as good as the first season, but I hope they surprise me. Seems strange to keep Christian Slater's character around.

Not really, during the big reveal about his character it was suggested that Elliot goes through phases where he sees him/acts as him due to mental illness, so he could possibly go through one of those phases again.

Not for this, because it's not an Amazon Prime show, they just have the online rights to it. Same as Better Call Saul for Netflix.
