Barca are at $75M US for what it's worth. I'd push for at least that much, maybe more because PL is the most watched league in the world and we have the most fans in the world.

Actually the more I think about it the more surprised I am that we didn't sell off naming rights for OT. It looks like you can raise 30-40% of a new stadium's cost just on naming rights.

So basically stadium naming rights could pay off the stadium in 20 years. Crazy how marketing works these days.

They've been clever haven't they.

(1) Their survey was of Season Ticket holders, members and some others? This was initially reported in the press as that, but very quickly started being reported as a "survey of season ticket holders" - it wasn't. Either way, in press it now looks like the majority of ST holders are in favour. Not True.

(2) Also, at the time that the survey went out, the options on the table were: redevelop ground or build a new ground keeping OT as for events, training the women's team. Some time later they announce it as a done deal, which will include flattening Old Trafford.

(3) I wish I'd kept a record of the questions in the survey as I don't think they were as clear cut as asking a direct, binary New Ground or Redevelop question.

It was obvious to me, right from the beginning, Ratcliffe wanted a new build. I'd love to know the actual justification for the new build, and I don't mean the vague slogan ones, "we need it to compete" etc. I mean real tangible ones.

Not to mention that the new ground will be licence to push ticket prices even further up. Inevitably worsening the atmosphere as younger people are less able to afford it. The reaction to the small rise in ST prices this season (despite having been frozen from about 2010 to 2022!) is nothing compared to the sh*tstorm that will happen when the cheapest seats will be twice what they are now in the new 100,000 stadium.

Also you needed either a season ticket or member number to enter/answer the survey.

That includes the jerseys and training gear also and other things.

I'd image we'll be negotiate these separately.

The PL has a bigger global audience than La Liga but Barca are in the latter stages of the CL every year and we don't even qualify.

If we can get back to qualifying for the CL, it'd strengthen our negotiating hand.

Oh I didn't know that! That seems too low honestly, don't Madrid make 70m just from the shirt deal with HP?

We make 75m from just the snap dragon deal afaik.

I can dig a bit more into naming right value in US vs England v rest of Europe at some point but happy to just wait until someone can tell us how much money we can realistically expect from naming rights

They weren't worth that much because as one of the worlds most famous and iconic stadiums no one would ever call it anything other than Old Trafford. The new stadium will be different, with it having no previous name people will be ok with calling whatever the highest bidder wants it to be named.

If the final build looks anything like the concept art then I think the new old trafford will be the best stadium in Europe, if not the world.

There is nothing on planet earth that looks like it. 3 spires 200 feet tall, 100k seats, an enormous glass canopy creating the largest concourse in the world (apparently). Honestly champions league or not, the club will be able to name their price when it comes to naming rights.

It's one of the most ambitious and unique buildings I've ever seen.

Yeah, but it's so far away from the current one. Almost 50 yards maybe.

Lansdowne Rd in Dublin was renamed the Aviva after it got rebuilt in the same spot and most people call it the Aviva now.

It's older than OT as it was built in 1872.

I know it's not the same situation since it was rebuilt but people will call stadiums by their new names.

I think we could get 30m minimum from the naming rights. Maybe more.

We're one of the biggest clubs in the world's most popular sport with a global audience.

I'm sure everything will be for sale such as the tunnel, the fan zones/plazas etc...

Don't get this...You argue like we should make at least/or more as Barca (who earns 75m a year) But suggest that we at least should get 30m a year? This doesn't make sense

Old Trafford is Old Trafford, which will be demolished. There’s absolutely no chance in hell this won’t be called something commercial-y. A hybrid name may work, Trafford seems to lend itself to that. Something like “Trafford Ineos - the theatre of chemicals”

Everyone knows the Emirates as that, and I’ve never heard it be called anything else. It’s still in Highbury, doesn’t get called new Highbury.

Actually got no idea what Spurs call theirs, are they still looking for someone who’ll pay more than a tenner for naming rights?

It's true that a new stadium will almost certainly push ticket prices a lot higher. I do begin to wonder whether the club may move away from season tickets altogether. A winning team again could likely see more than enough demand for them to start selling tickets to games similarly to how a platform like Ticketmaster sells concert tickets, with dynamic pricing and a tiny window for everyone to get a ticket for each match.

That was demolished and completely rebuilt. Personally I still call it lansdowne every time I've been but I have noticed a lot of people call it the Aviva.

But I just can't imagine United fans ever calling Old Trafford anything other than Old Trafford.

I know it was rebuilt but on the exact same spot.

Also it's the oldest Rugby union test venue yet people still started calling it by the new name.

I bet similar would happen if we renamed OT.

People's still call it Old Trafford. Irish folk are odd... I mean Aviva. Imagine fans calling St James's The Sports Direct Arena back then.

Thank you for posting this. I found it very illuminating and thought the guy from Foster & Partners presented it really well. Okay, there's a lot of PR in there, but I felt heartened by the fact that the fans are being consulted and that historical aspects of Old Trafford are an integral part of the design.

Yes, I know there will inevitably be a hike in ticket prices, but that's the way of the world. Look at the cost of an Oasis or Taylor Swift gig. Anyway, I'll be 70 by the time it is completed, if I make it that far, and can't wait to see a game there.

It wouldn't, Old Trafford is just too established for United fans especially locals to ever call it anything else.

No one called St James the Sports Direct Arena for example.

Depends on whether people perceive it as a new stadium or a refurb of the old one I suspect. No-one ever tried to call the Emirates "Highbury", because it was obviously a different venue. This will be an odd one, its sort of the same place, but not quite. And we'll be playing at OT while its built, so presumably we'll just finish one season at OT and start the next one in the new place. So it just might feel like we've moved to a new venue and calling it Old Trafford won't seem right. I suppose it'll also depend on the sponsored name. If its corny, people are less likely to use it.

I imagine it will be "Business Name" @ Old Trafford. so something like "The Apple Arena @ Old Trafford" for example.

All the fans can still call it Old Trafford, but all the official stuff that goes out on TV and the like will feature the business name which is all they will care about and the Old Trafford name will still get a mention on TV to maintain it's gravitas.

We were actually talking about selling the naming rights to the current ground mate.In my opinion OT would always be OT regardless of the name slapped on the side.

With the new stadium I'm not so sure. For me while it will be located at Old Trafford (the area) it won't be Old Trafford (the stadium). Personally I'll call it whatever it's named officially as I'd have no attachment to it being newly built

Well, its not actually in Old Trafford the area, but that's an aside. But yeah, I think we'll be able to tell when the time comes. It'll either feel right to call it OT, or it won't, and I don't think we'll be able to force it either way. If it feels like a new place, it'll get a new name.

I mean just stadium naming rights we should get 30m minimum a year.

Barca's figure includes shirt and training top sponsorship.

Newcastle fans hated Ashley though, so the name was a symbol of that.

Maybe Lansdowne was a symbol of English colonialism so people were happy to use a new name.

I'm not too precious about names anyway.

Irish rugby was more successful in the new stadium.

It's success on the pitch which really matters. Everything comes from that.

I picked ''I like it'' on the poll.

Initially, I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. I watched the video with the head designer on United's YT channel. I understand they know what to say and all that to keep fans happy but it does seem they are taking into account what the fans want.

It's always going to be hard leaving the history of OT behind. The one thing I'll say, teams don't fear it at the moment. That's because the club hasn't being dominant. When and if they are dominant (I'm sure they will) then the new stadium could be feared.

I'm not sure about the three spikes/tangents (if that is what they are meant to be). I think that will grow on people.

I think my biggest concern will be over the name of the stadium. ''New Trafford'' wouldn't be right. The area is Old Trafford. Putting New might seem right for a lot of fans and I'm an Ireland red, but I think the area must be respected. I think they should give the fans a ''win'' by not calling it the ''Cadbury's Trafford stadium'' etc..

Just a question and it might be a stupid one, what if it was just called ''Old Trafford''. Would that be disrespectful to anyone living in the area or the every match day going supporters?

I think he means £30m more per year so basically £1billion over 10 years?

There’s a rumour Amazon have offered £750m for just 10 years naming rights. That stadium at £2 billion seems a serious underestimate, maybe nearer £2.5 billion looking at the plans but hey what do I know ?Especially with the modular building concept and cheaper shipping costs, maybe £2billion is about right.

The more I look at the design the more I like it. The one somewhat major quibble I have is that the spires are way too high, but the idea is the right idea.

Did you not hear the part about them being visible from Liverpool?

For me it should, the name Old Trafford should stay with the current stadium that'll always be Old Trafford to me. And as you say most/all of the new stadium technically won't even be in Old Trafford the area.

It's a new stadium and should have a new name.

Right so..That should make sense. I would guess, when the stadium is finished, around 2032, we will coup around 110-130 mil a year. The named and unnamed companies will make even more profits then than now. It's not a guess it's capitalism for you.

When did they move Old Trafford?

Because the area was Old Trafford when I worked about 100 yards from the current stadium for more than a decade in the 80's and 90's
