I think the best approach is Ten Hag manager and Ralf with a senior position in the club. But if Ten Hag blows us off, then yeah second best choice is to give it to Rangnick for another year. If he doesn't do well, summer 2023 go for Enrique, Mancini, Nagelsmann, Flick, Potter etc.

Ten Hag is my preferred choice but after this season when Poch wins the league with Psg, he's basically at least on the same level as Tuchel before he joined Chelsea

In many ways, this summer is the perfect time for a manager to take over! It’ll be coming off a poor season (expectations are relatively low) a lot of players on big wages will be out of contract in the summer (should be a decent transfer budget for them to immediately get in the players that fit their philosophy)

Romano didnt really say much.

Rangnick would be happy to take the job.
Poch and ETH are both candidates.

Thats it.

In keeping with his usual "cover every angle until someone else confirms it" philosophy then.
Maybe there's nothing to update. Nothing wrong with that. He came on the show as a guest and was asked the question from a fan.

From the Guardian today:

As was often the case at Tottenham, Pochettino has often struggled to consistently and coherently break down defensive teams. He is far better suited to designing stoic defences and explosive counters, as seen in September when PSG beat Manchester City in Paris.

No thanks. Mourinho II

That's my problem with Poch. I want my team to dominate the games . I want to take the game to City or Barca or PSG. This underdog mentality isn't what we should be focusing on.

If we wanted a defend and counter, I would have preferred Conte( I know he doesn't always play like that bur he still prefers for some matches)

This

If we can't get Ten Hag, it makes sense to renew Ralf for another season. Just let him clear out the jokers.

and this.

Would the Glazers then have another excuse to not fund transfers for another year? “We know Ralf is only in charge for another year. He can’t sign players that the next manager might reject”

I don’t want RR anywhere near the permanent position. I can’t believe how many on here would be happy with this scenario.

Hed be a fine choice if we are waiting for Enrique.

Seems odd to want Ten Hag so bad when hes not proven in any top league either.

Ten Hage is sought after among the top clubs. Reminds me about the Haaland hype. Hypes doesn’t happen like lightening from clear sky.

Ten Hage is an exiting alternative, but not a very safe one. He is a relative undescribed sheet on the highest level. It’s a huge step from Ajax to United. Handling players at is example a different world compared with Ajax. Ten Hag will probably benefit from managing a club like Everton, Southampton before taking the next step - into the wild world. I’ll say Enrique and Poch are safer bets, but for me it’s even steven between the three candidates I mention.

The problem is that Ten Hage maybe have other alternatives which suits him better, and Enrique may not be very interested in a move to Manchester. That’s why I think Poch is the most likely candidate as long as PSG doesn’t crash land in CL.

Tonight could get miserable. PSG get smashed by Madrid and we get beat at home by Brighton. The next few days see Poch gets the boot and we hire him through desperation. I can feel it n my water. Sad times.

I'd take him if we don't get ETH, purely from a squad building perspective, because I think unlike everyone else he actually will leave the squad in a better place, and this summer is going to be a massive one

I'd love to take Margot Robbie on a date.

There's no way Ralf is getting the job. Which we can all be thankful for and I'm saying that as a guy who really likes RR. He doesn't even looks like he enjoys that much, he comes across as a cynical old academic whose teaching some distinctly unimpressive students.

If the club has any sense (If the club has any sense ) they'll give Rangnick a big role and use his first hand experience of trying to manage this mob to inform their decisions.

In Germany and Italy, if there was a young coach who did well with a team like Mainz, Hoffenheim/Leipzig or Sienna, you could be sure that teams like Dortmund, Bayern and Juve would consider that guy. Maybe even hire him. Despite not winning anything.

In England, if there was a young, english coach who took a poor team from playing football like Stoke to being a City/Liverpool-hybrid in style and structure, would he be considered for Man Utd? I would say probably not! Not if his team did not somehow «challenge» even if that is basically impossible.

A few fun facts:
- Only City, Liverpool and Chelsea have higher possession numbers than Brighton,
- The same three team, and Man Utd and Spurs, have higher pass completion,
- Only four teams have lower xGA than Brighton,
- Relative to possession, their pressing numbers are very high and according to fbref the most effective in the PL with 32,8 %. City and Liverpool are 2nd and 3rd. Only Liverpool press more in the final third.
- Only three teams are better at beating the press of the opponent than Brighton (City, Chelsea and Arsenal).
- Only three teams in the PL have more touches in the final third than Brighton (City, Liverpool and Chelsea).

Consider the resources. Consider where that squad came from in 2019. People are so hyped about ETH. And I get it. But could anyone, ETH, Pep or even Klopp have done better with Brighton? I really doubt it!

It sounds stupid, but a coach at Man Utd will face some of the same challenges Potter faced at Brighton in 2019. I would really trust that guy.

Good post, we have a blindspot when it comes to seeing potential or considering left field options and then end up missing players/managers when they are on the upward trajectory only to sign them when they are on the downward trajectory then wonder why we are closing in on ten years without a title. Of United fail because they took a chance on a young upcoming manager I'd totally understand the decision and back them again should they try another decision like that.

United of today wouldn't hire Alex Ferguson from Aberdeen

I bet Liverpool will take a chance on him after Klopp. If he is still available by then.

Tbf fans these days wouldn't have any patience if we hired a manager from Aberdeen. Look at the reactions to any suggestions of hiring Pochettino, Potter or Rodgers for example. It only took a few weeks for people to start criticizing Ralf. Unless it's flavour of the month Ten Hag, no one is interested.

That was a different era though.

99% of PL managers were british back then, i also doubt United or any other top PL side would hire a manager directly from Scotland right now, doesn't matter if he broke the hegemony Celtic-Rangers.

I don't think we will ever see an scottish manager at a top PL side again, especially after what happened with Rodgers at Liverpool.

After tonight I am well and truly on the Potter bandwagon.

Sack Rangnick and get Potter in now.

He ticks all the boxes.

I can't be bothered to wait for Pochettino or Ten Hag.

Nowadays fans from top PL sides would feel like getting an scottish manager directly from the SPL it's an underwhelming choice, given the fact that german, italian, dutch, and spanish managers are available, unlike in the 90s.
Especially considering how poor it's scottish football nowadays, and what happened with Moyes and Rodgers in their stint at United and Liverpool.

What do we think of Bruno Lage? He's had a profound effect on wolves this season
