Best thing for us in the long run in my opinion. We keep retaining players because we’ve needed a big squad to compete in Europe. Players we clearly know aren’t good enough or are constantly injured occupy spots in the team just because of Europe, especially those pointless EL group games.

The rebuild has to start this summer and while the loss of income from no Europe will help, a fire sale will cover this to some extent by considerably lowering the wage bill as well as any transfer fees.

We should go into next season cutting up to 10 positions without need for replacing. A squad of 22 is enough for next season and we can fill the rest with youth players.

GK - 2
Full backs - 4
Centre Backs - 4
Centre Mids- 6
Forwards - 6

This season especially back in the first half of the season we had over 30 squad players. We can clear out about 15 players and replace only 5 of them with new signings. It will speed up the rebuild and finally get rid of the wasters we’ve had here for years.
Squad of 22, our average number of players injured each week this season is 9 so that’s 13 players nabe your 11 plus 2 subs, for reference look at Palace bench last night compared to ours, they have a squad of 27/28 in the PL nowadays that’s the bare minimum with the current injuries pl teams have

Get the right man who can actually coach a team and things might improve with a week on the training pitch.

Missing out on the new champions league format"s debut is fecking annoying and is a sackable offence for ETH.
It's probably a blessing with the squad we've got tbh.

We don't have the squad to compete in the expanded format with extra games

Anyway we could still qualify for the Europa league as bad as that is

Can't see us getting anything from Newcastle and cannot see Chelsea not getting something at Brighton. 8th it is.

It's going to be very strange. It's been a dark decade but there was still always European nights to get a bit excited about.

Next season it's just league, league, league. A bad result lasts the week, no midweek game to take your mind off it.

Crap for the new manager next season but at least (at least I hope so) this will give sleepy Ratcliffe enough reason to sack EtH

No european football should allow for a smaller squad size. Meaning we can move on some of the bigger earners without having to worry to much about depth. Add a few solid players and more time on the training pitch and we can try a fresh start.

ETH is sackable, but this no standout alternatives available I guess we give him another year, but treat him purely as a head coach.

Thank god. Conference league would have been embarrassing to get knocked out of by playing in the middle of bum feck nowhere. Still a chance of EL if united have players standing in the FA Cup. Slim chance but oh well. Might be the best thing that happened too. Less games and we can get an advantage over others with more rest. Could be a blessing in disguise

No big loss if we don't make europa. Its a slog of a competition.

Between all the domestic games it should be enough given our team is made of glass

Does the runner-up of the FA Cup get into Europe?

If the winner of the FA Cup has already qualified for a European competition, then the Europa League place goes to the runner-up. If the runner-up has also qualified for a European competition, then the Europa League place goes to 6th or 7th place, depending on who won the Football League Cup.

Conference league is embarrassing. I get we've fallen off hard but playing in that competition is a real joke. Would rather finish outside whatever position it is to qualify for that

Whenever I read such statements I think that fans like you deserve that United never wins anything again. :wenger:

It's just embarassing not wanting to try to win what still is a European competition.

That was changed I thought. i.e. It goes to the League if City win it.

Right I am confused now I have read this, contradicts what I found earlier.
Can you get into Europe through the FA Cup?

The winners of the FA Cup also qualify for the Europa League. If Manchester City (who have qualified for the Champions League) beat Manchester United to win the FA Cup final, then Europa League would go to sixth place, and seventh goes to Europa Conference League.

Ah. Yeah I saw that we still have a chance, but it’s very, very slim.
Winning Wednesday vs Newcastle is very important, it’ll at least take it to the last day then.

Or a draw and then a win vs Brighton will do if Chelsea decide to abandon their excellent form and lose their last 2 games to help us out

No, if the FAcup winner is already qualified it just goes back to the league table.

“We can focus on the league and have plenty of fresh players, really focus on building the team”

….. man I remember that optimism… just make sure you hire better physios than ours….
