YawnRoundup:
So we did a Maguire with Bruno. A player available for less money last summer (as was Maguire when Jose wanted him). We then proceeded to spend the whole window negotiating, only to end up paying the set price at the end of the window. With Maguire, we could have had him bed in much sooner, with Bruno we could have had him playing for all of January.
We tried to tempt Jude Bellingham to join from Birmingham. Rumoured to have offered 30m for the 16 year old. He didn’t fancy it.
We made an offer for Josh King - Bournemouth fighting relegation - how likely was it that they’d want to sell relatively cheap with no time to replace him?
Ole personally went to speak with Haaland, thinking he’d join us. Goes to Dortmund and scores loads of goals. Granted, if rumours of the deal are to be believed, the player is almost being rented from Raiola and his dad. If Ole tried to get around Raiola, that’s a plus.
We were rumoured to have scoped out a loan move for 20 year old Argentine striker Adolfo Gaich, who has a tiny €13.5m release clause.
Vague rumours around Grealish, Maddison, Cavani, Rakitic.
And we saw Rojo and Young leave, despite Ole saying he wanted to retain the players at the club as the squad was so stretched.
It is clear that our transfer “committee” is atrocious. It is also clear that we do not have a long-term approach in place, where we know our targets. A long-term plan includes more then 2-3 players that are unattainable in January because they are playing in the CL. This “long-termism” seems to be a relatively empty buzzword to buy more time for a club that has little ambition, and perhaps, not the money it once did, having squandered hundreds of millions on inflated fees, wages and managerial sackings.
That being said, we needed a striker and got one in. Mainly it’s good so we won’t destroy Martial and Greenwood.
And we needed a midfielder so we won’t play Matic and Fred until they get even too injured for Ole to play them.
I don’t mind us not spending huge sums in January, but I find it unacceptable that a club of this stature doesn’t seem prepared in the slightest.
I’d give this window a 5/10 given our needs, but I was expecting 0/10.
Quite excited by the Ighalo loan, He was really good in the PL and I think he has the capability to take the main striker spot from Martial.
You forgot Sander Berge, the young gk from Southend.
I personally think Ole will be hoping Ighalo hits a scoring streak and move Martial to the left. Having Martial and Rashford scoring goals for the first half of the season was enough to get us into 5th in the table, we need to replace Rashford's goals in addition to what Bruno will add for any chance at 4th.
I'm gonna have to say that why didn't we go for him when he offered himself to us? This is why we must act faster and I really hope Woodward and the guys learn from these mistakes because I guarantee you they do not want the stick that they're recieivng again. I feel as if the club is taking a positive turn to be honest.Wonder if we would have gone for Ibra if he was still available?
All signals point to us not wanting those kind of egos in the team any more.Wonder if we would have gone for Ibra if he was still available?
What type of ego's? Model professionals? Legendary players? Leaders? Someone who would inspire even Pogba to get his shit together for us for the 2nd half of the season? All signals point to us not wanting those kind of egos in the team any more.
I mean, I love this daft idea people have that Maguire was available the Summer after the World Cup (he wasn't and didn't push for a move), and that somehow he was cheaper (he wasn't).
Bruno was plenty more expensive in the Summer by the way, we called their bluff.
Don't want to quote your whole post @Bastian but Sporting wanted €80-90m in summer, so we've actually paid less.
Regarding Bellingham, he wasn't going to come straight into the side and we were going to loan him back for 18 months, this deal can still be completed outside of the transfer window and may still be done.
I don't for a minute believe the Gaich rumours.
I was expecting something even just vaguely accurate when someone says they'll do a 'roundup' of events
Yawn
And he comes with an ego. I loved the guy and he was what we needed when we had him. But it's no shock to anyone paying attention that we were not going to get him again this time around. What type of ego's? Model professionals? Legendary players? Leaders? Someone who would inspire even Pogba to get his shit together for us for the 2nd half of the season?
Right... Let's get one thing straight. It's fecking Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he's one of the most professional, determined and inspirational players over the past 20 years. Not someone like Balotelli who is a distraction.

Coming from China to play for his boyhood club. Give it a rest.Be in Wonderland about joining a team who finishes sixth/seventh? Come on
Fernandes, Bishop and Ighalo. We're probably one of the best clubs at signing players in the country.
I actually believe Castles (who was pretty much leading this story, despite the general ridicule he gets) who claims Spurs had negotiated a deal in summer that was lower than what we are forking out now. Which is not to say that I think he's overpriced, just that we wasted time again when we could have lined him up for the start of the window. With regards to Maguire, the price rumoured when Jose wanted him was 70m.
I'm not sure we would have forked out 30m for him and not wanted him in asap, even though Birmingham wanted him to stay on loan. Hopefully we'll come back in the summer.
It's not like I posted a thread on it. Feel free to address inaccuracies. I caveat plenty with "rumours".
And a yawn to you too buddy. Sleep well.
If Spurs negotiated a deal for less than this in the Summer, why didn’t they buy him?

"It was 'impossible' to retain Bruno Fernandes, but we did it. We prepared for his sale by putting a fair price on him, and we had bids, but the only serious offer was from Tottenham and that was €45 million (£40 million/$50 million) plus another €20m in bonuses for winning the Premier League and the Champions League. Those are difficult objectives, so we chose not to accept.
Sporting president said they rejected Spurs bid
It wasn't going to be £30m upfront but I think itll be £15-20m plus £10-15m in bonuses. We'll definitely keep negotiating for him, in summer he only had one year left on his deal I think.I'm not sure we would have forked out 30m for him and not wanted him in asap, even though Birmingham wanted him to stay on loan. We did need a striker but again Ighalo really? We couldn’t find a young versatile forward to bring in? There’s one heading to West Ham now and another at Brentford. Again what are our scouts doing ? Why do they seemingly have no idea about these players? Why can’t they find anything not completely obvious ?

You do yourself an injustice, I rated that opinion.Ighalo is obviously a stop gap to get us to the summer. I am sure if we could get our summer targets this month we would have done. No offence to the young lad from Hull but I would hope we have a better long term target than that.
Not replacing Lukaku in the summer was a complete balls up and the board/Ole have been fairly criticised for that now Rashford is injured. They have done reasonably well in January.
