Almost perfect today. Great win, let's keep going and hopefully dropping Lingard.
Those 3 or 4 times Pedro ballooned it into the 3rd tier really did hurt us in the shots stats. I'm glad we weren't as wasteful as that.Tweet

Oh dear, the #OleOut stats enthusiasts wont be happy today. Predicted goals are still more important that actual goals aren't they?
We won the expected goals today.https://understat.com/match/11652Nope but that stat can catch up to us, like last season.
Those stats are misleading. Chelsea were restricted to long-range efforts all game. Clear-cut chances were few and between (did they have any at all?)Tweet

I didnt know, nor i check that shit, he made it sound like we didnt. We won the expected goals today.https://understat.com/match/11652
Best part: Tuanzebe on the bench in front of Smalling, Rojo and Jones.
He probably read the Caf too much... It has that effect on people.Feck me Ole has aged over the summer.
We normally get a bit of injuries at CB...I know this is going to be a very unpopular opinion but personally id prefer him to be starting every week on loan at Villa. Maguire and Lindelof is going to be very hard to breakup this season.
Expected goals have a better prediction value than real goals. Though saying that, we had quite a bit XG than Chelsea today.Tweet

To be fair I think that will be Fred's position once he's up to speed. Started a bit later than the others in preseason.Great start and a well deserved win. Made the right decisions in second half that changed the game.
I personally don’t like our 4231 formation with Pogba so deep. Prefer a three man midfield so Paul can roam around and use his creativity a little bit more.
I also prefer a staring line up without Pereira. Don’t think he offer enough quality in attack and his defensive contribution is sometimes questionable. Think Fred is a better alternative.
It has that effect on me and I'm not even employed in football. He probably read the Caf too much... It has that effect on people.
They'll be better off when they have their injured players back but I agree their squad isn't exactly frightening. That Chelsea team is bad. Lampard has got a torrid season ahead of him, man. A very torrid season indeed.
Just one midfielder would do.Great result, has to give him credit for that. Our back 5 looks solid, with AWB and Maguire having excellent debuts.
I still worry about the midfield though, the lack of control in the first half. I think we will regret not replacing Herrera.
I think this might be one of those rare seasons when we will make some signings in the January window.
It would make sense economically if we are in a tough struggle for top 4.
Err, Emerson had two shots inside the box, one crashing off an upright/post combo, and Barkley missed from about 8 yards. Those stats are misleading. Chelsea were restricted to long-range efforts all game. Clear-cut chances were few and between (did they have any at all?)
The stats won't show you how devastating we were on the counter either.
True, but so is a high pressing team. Despite the stats showing Chelsea having more shots than us, most of them were harmless long range shots. I honestly dont think we have enough quality in midfield yet to go out and dominate teams like Liverpool and City do. What we do have though is loads of pace upfront and Pogba to hit those lethal through balls. If we become a lethal counter attacking team, other teams will be wary of committing too many players forward against us since they know we can hurt them on the counterI will say first that it was great win, defence looked good, signings looked good and our counters looked good. No question about all that.
But this tactic where we allow teams to play and wait for counter attacks is not good in a long run. I am curious how we will play on away games against weaker teams. I hope that we will not give Wolves, Everton, Saints and other teams chance to dominate us like we did last season. It is very risky approach. If you concede first, you are in problems.
I agree, and also enjoyed the match while feeling that we weren't entirely playing CHELSEA, as such. Wolves is going to be more of a test, for the tactical reasons you mentioned, and a great check for signs of progress versus last season.I will say first that it was great win, defence looked good, signings looked good and our counters looked good. No question about all that.

That not what he said at all.Who else didn't make the squad today? Not including the younger lads.
Jones
Smalling
Rojo
Dalot
Fred
Sanchez
Anyone I've missed out barring the injured Bailly?
Ole said himself you'll see who is surplus to requirements by who doesn't make the squad.
Hopefully Fred and Dalot can displace Matic and Young for a place on the bench and then we'll be better off.
Remember whatever he says doesn’t matter apparently because he’s a liar and what not.I really like what I’m seeing from Ole, saying we’re nowhere near the finished article is pretty brave after winning 4-0 to Chelsea. Let’s hope we see those improvements in the coming weeks.
