We heard those PCs from Ole too and then I heard how every team spent money except us, how he was drooling over opponent players instead of preparing the team, I saw him calling Glazers as great owners, I saw him praising Woodward in his early PCs. I saw him shit on the club after Sevilla game too.
Yeah, I prefer Ole's PC without any doubt.
This post isn’t against you but I like the way you defend Ole so I will widen the discussion from my perspective a little bit. You will probably laugh or find me odd but I give you that.
When I criticize something I mostly do it from three different angles. A) As a frustrated supporter B) from the perspective as a former investor and a business man C) as someone with experience from c-level management and board room discussions. So sometimes I’m just a crazy fan and sometimes I know my onions...
I was deeply wrong regarding the Glazers. I had a naive idea that they would protect their investment in the best possible way. Time had prove me and many others that this was not their intentions. In the beginning of their ownership it was quite easy to understand and predict their future business plan. In short let the club pay the PIK loans and their initial investment. I thought from there (after the PIK loan was repaid) that they would see the benefits of letting the football side of the club continue be successful.
Unfortunately at that time the captain of this gigantic ship called United decided to retire with short notice. Instead of doing a professional due diligence they decided to trust the old man and with his recommendations hired a dark horse called David Moyes. Worst decision ever in the history of modern football and without a experienced captain the ship started to sink. (On top of that David Gill decided to move on. We lost two giants in less then a month)
Then fast forward to captain four. Another dark horse with limited experience, but in his favor comes tons of credibility from us supporters and that we all know that he had the clubs best interest in his heart.
I think most of us are in agreement that atm the owners are the supporters worst enemy. Then comes Woodward. We love how he handle the business side of the club but we are highly suspicious about his football knowledge. Then at third level comes the manager who are the clubs main communicator regarding our first team, transfers and results. When things go wrong he’s the one who will absorb all the frustration and abuses. Finally we have the players all from first year academy products to the big guns like Pogba, DDG and Lukaku. As a fickle fan I can hate them too when things go south. Blame is fun even if it’s often unfair.
To my main point.
I want to get rid of the owners.
I want us to find a DoF who take care of the football side of our club. I want us to be successful, enjoy the games and see us win trophies. For me the owners, our CEO and most managers are temporary parts of the club I love.
The only one who wasn’t temporary was Sir Alex. My hero in every aspects of life. I learned from him, he gave me inspiration about how to live my life. His methods was often my guidance when I was involved in management.
When he retired a part of my passion left my soul. I wasn’t a young teenager any longer in form of passion and commitment. I was a senior, someone who helped others, a mentor and suddenly I could see our players and new managers in a different light. Gone was the blind love and suddenly I could accept a loss without going bananas. It was a strange felling.
When I first heard Ole Gunnar talked about ruthlessness, getting rid of the deadwood, I was surprised but a felt inspired again. Wow. A ex player, a legend, someone with real power saw what I saw, we wanted the same thing. Maybe it sound strange but suddenly I started to believe in changes. New owners! I was even willing to take onboard the Saudi’s in order to make things happen. A DoF? Wow! Finally our club was willing to be modern and maybe we could have a new structure before next transfer window. My friend who’s a fanatic Liverpool supporter often laughed at me. I wanted revenge. In my worst periods I was willing to brake his leg, destroy his car, especially when they won the CL. He had all the things that was mine. Glory, happiness and spectacular football. Even the clown Klopp was better then my guy. Gollum inside of me didn’t liked it.
So when Ole Gunnar started to become a yes man the supporter inside me was deeply disappointed. Off course I could understand the rational side of why he “protected” the owners and Woody but still, I was disappointed.
Maybe I was hoping for a miracle, a new Sir Alex, even if I knew that I will never see a man like him again in my lifetime.
But as you know the more I heard from Ole Gunnar the more I realized that he was even more inexperienced in management then me. Feck, it hit me that I was old, a senior. So every time I heard his “excuses” I got irritated. My target wasn’t really Solskjaer, but when he acted as a “yes” man I saw the owners and let that anger directed at Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
I still hope that Ole can turn this around. I’m highly skeptical because I can see his flaws, his inexperience and his lack of authority.
In my dreams I hope his biggest contribution will be to “force” the owners to invest so we get better. I know I can’t expect him to sacrifice his on career but there you have my perspective. Sorry for a long text.
Yours sinceerely
