Well. I'll be damned.

If we had a world class striker, his movement alone should encourage our midfielders and wide players to pass the ball to him. Once the ball arrives at his feet, his world class credentials should do the rest.
Right now, our midfielders pass the ball side to side, in the final 3rd, because they can't find anybody to pass the ball to, who is in the penalty box, wanting to score a goal.
Vardy and Mahrez have scored more goals between them than the whole United squad. You can hardly call them "world class". Every single United attacker has looked crap in the way this team is playing.

Liverpool, - we beat these guys once this season already.
City, - these guys had to park the bus against us and we got a draw.
Chelsea, - not played these guys yet.
Spurs - yeah, we beat these guys, too.

Why would we fear these teams? Have I missed something?
The 3 games you mention were all at home, City aren't going to park the bus at the Ethiad. Liverpool had a different manager, we scored a spawny goal against Spurs and we rarely travel well to Stamford Bridge.

We won't be favorites to win any of those games.

this is what happens when you go into a season with one senior striker(off his peak) and two unproven youngsters(Martial, Depay). Hardly something unexpected happened to not expect 0-0 draws...

- Joint 10th for goals scored (22) with Bournemouth
- Watford, Everton, Palace, Spurs, Everton, Leicester, West Ham and Chelsea have all scored more
- City and Leicester have scored 15 more goals then us
- We're 18th in the table for chances created (136) behind the likes of Sunderland, Villa and Norwich
- Only Newcastle and West Brom, on average, create less chances per game the United

An utter, utter mess.

Nonsense, we also had Fellaini.

(This was actually what a lot of people said on here when it was brought up how short we were in attack at the start of the season, some insisted Rooney/Fellaini was all we needed :wenger:)

There was one guy I was arguing with on here who was saying that Fellaini is a better striker then Benteke, despite, you know, not actually being a striker :wenger::lol:

Anyone that didn't think our attack was a mess, was kidding themselves. Its a shame our manager was one of them.

Won't matter who manages us for the rest of the season, unless Rooney and Mata are replaced with some real quality we won't make top 4.

Anyone thinking someone like Kane could do well in this team?

We put so many balls into and across the box someone really aggressive could thrive.

Also disappointed when a lot of attacks break down due to rooney's bad touch, from what I've seen kane can operate in that role

Exactly what VG wanted, he sells Nani, di Maria, RVP and Hernandez, lets falcao go, sends janazaj and Wilson on loan, the numbers are not replaced with only signs martial and Memphis

Barring a major signing we need Martial and Memphis (and Adnan?) to mature to their potential in record time, and only Martial has shown so far that he can.

Or Rooney to find some fountain of youth...

The amount of stats that condemn LVG is just incredible.

Stoke and Everton have better front threes.
STOKE and EVERTON.

Tottenham's is definitely not worse. TOTTENHAM.

It needs a COMPLETE overhaul. We have one forward... ONE forward who is worthy of a place in a title challenging team and he's 19. and from his best displays this season he's been more dangerous coming in from the left wing.

That leaves us with a huge hole at Centre Forward and RW in our starting 11 going forward. Its a hole that a Berahino level available striker isnt going to fix long term.

If your shopping from inside the premier league you would be looking at Kane/Lukaku for CF, Mane/Mahrez for the RW.

We arguably need another option at No.10 when hopefully fellaini is given the all clear.

Its a big problem that needs to be addressed.

This league is about pace and power going forward. That memo didn't reach van Gaal until after the last transfer window slammed shut. At least he has acknowledged that we need more pace. Martial is the only one who stands out as a player that can be in the front three of a modern elite football team. Rooney and Mata have already dropped below that and there is nothing to suggest they'll step it up to an acceptable level. We need to address this immediately, Sadio Mane and Lucas Moura seem to be the most realistic targets this January.

this was also pretty obvious last season, which is my biggest problem with LVG. He already knew this, and did nothing to address this issue.
What was he thinking?

Well we've got an attack that doesn't suit the way we approach games.

This style of football needs quality delivery from wide areas, clinical finishing and players who can dribble/create chances for themselves.

What we have is fullbacks who aren't reliable crossers and not particularly strong dribblers, wingers who have pace but aren't great dribblers and strikers who aren't clinical.

It just doesn't make sense. The foundations in play to allow us to retain possession, play from the back are good but there needs to be a middle ground in attack.

We can't cross consistently nor take set pieces i.e. corners consistently so we shouldn't keep setting up to play in to wide areas as our main focus. It's one thing to have the opposition force us wide another to actually shoot ourselves in the foot by going there ourselves.

What we do have is pace in Depay, Martial and Lingard and players who can get them in, in Mata, Herrera and Carrick/BFS/Rooney. Yes they're not Silva levels but if we make enough runs I think they can get them in, certainly would trust their passes rather than our crosses. I know people aren't particularly happy with Mata atm and he needs to do better/is a bit one dimensional but lets see what happens if we give him some runs.

We need to play to our strengths, play with the pace we showed today from defence but when we get to the final third lets get the wingers running in from the flanks, not have them receiving the ball at a stand still. Lets get Martial back up top and have him stretch the game. It might work, it might not work but I think it plays to our strengths more than our current style. They attack still needs improving but lets play to the strengths it has right now.
