Classic Evra performance. Young did all his defending in the first half.

I honestly have no idea what defensive instructions Evra has these days...50% of the games he only seems interested in attacking and leaves the left back duties to the left winger.

I'm absolutely sick of saying the same thing about Evra nearly every other match now.

Out of position defensively time after time. Poor quality on his final ball after doing well to get there.

He's our weak point in defence

Very poor today. Okay getting forward, but his defensive game was awful for a full back. Every time he starts to turn the corner he goes and does something like this.

Every week it seems he costs us something. He's a shambles these days. Yet he's picked every single game. feck off. And now we are loaning the only other leftback we have next season. Great work.

I'm so pissed off with him.

three crosses from the right (our left) lead to 3 goals. that wasn't by mistake. everyone knows that's the weak side. evra will either be out of position or won't contest the cross.

edit: my mistake...it was two.

Do anyone know how many goals we concede after crosses from the left? He never seems to put pressure on the crosser, and when he finally does he's skinned.

Two of Everton goals came from crosses where Nani was trying to stop Hibbert and Evra was ahead of him :houllier:
A LB cannot defend like that, positionally it's horrible to watch

Half the trouble is he has to play nearly every game in the season because we don't have a proper backup for him. But yeah defensively he has now become pretty torrid to watch, positionally he is all over the place.

One of them was a ball played down the middle by a central midfielder. Little Evra could do there.

He needs competition, a very good player but he is a liability defensively and there are no consequences as he will start the next game no matter how poor he plays.

He was poor today as were all the defence... but I'm not sure why he's being blamed for not closing down Hibbert when that's Nani's man?!

What the feck has went wrong? He hasn't lost his pace and that is usually the cause for a full backs decline. It's just like he can't be arsed defending, and leaves it to the winger in front to do the work. He's been shit for most of the season. Give Fabio some games.

Do people think Evra drifting out of position and into central areas to mark people is something he does on a whim or what?

It's fairly clearly something he's been instructed to do. Look at the two Hibbert crosses he's getting bollocked for today. First one he's gone out to close down Osman meaning Nani should pick up Hibbert but Nani doesn't see him quick enough.

Second one again Evra's central closing down McFadden but this time Nani's too narrow and can't get to Hibbert quick enough.

The question I have is why the christ are we getting in a position where people like Nani are asked to play the role of the full back when that's just asking for trouble. It makes the pair of them vulnerable.

I'm not convinced it's because Paddy can't be arsed. Watch the way he comes out of position to track people, he's been doing it all season. If it was a case of him just not bothering his arse he'd have been dropped at some point surely.

That's not to say I don't think he's on the wane a bit mind. One on one he's been skinned more than his fair share this season and a few months ago he was taking days to get himself back down the pitch. I just don't think this roaming around bollocks is solely his doing.

Why does Evra drift into central areas?

Because Scholes doesn't have the legs to track back...which means Nani, or Young end up having to stop crosses coming in, which isn't something either are great at doing. At first I too thought Evra was going for a walk about but i've noticed he does it almost every single game now and it's because Scholes simply doesn't have the legs to make runs into the box (which he is being asked to do), and also cover - especially if he plays more then 60 minutes.

SAF clearly wants Evra to cover for Scholes and asks the wingers to drop back and defend.

Evra was awful today. His passing, his (lack of) defending...most of Everton's offensive play came down their right, as well as their first 2 goals. Secondly, Evra offensively is a good player, and he gets in some good positions by the byline or cutting in from the left, but his crossing is really poor. His form over the last 18 months has been sporadic, and I'm unsure about his role as captain.

At some point last season, someone told Evra, it's ok if he takes this defending lark part time...and he hasn't been the same since.

He is great going forward almost all the time, but defensively he goes walkabout.

Him being defensively woeful was fine when we had Vidic covering for him but him being injured puts the spotlight on Evra even more. I hope the rumours about Baines are true because right now anything would be better than Evra at left back.
