You won’t need to be online to play games you’ve bought and downloaded I don’t think. I tend to buy most of my games digitally now as it’s just easier and less clutter. That said I’ll still buy the disc version as I occasionally play disc based games if they’re cheap enough.

Am the same have started using digital games more they’re just handy to use. Will probably buy the disk version also because you can always sell or swap a game with it.

You don’t. You only need be online if you playing on your non primary console as some people like to game share. Primary console users can play games offline. Where as if you are on the non primary console you have to be online.

Elvis typically didn’t explain to him in case he likes to game share with a friend. Or he could have a second PS4 and travels around the world.
I'm guessing €450 / 500 for Ireland. Any more than that and I just don't see them shifting that many units in a Pandemic.
I have a few games I bought on the €20 sale that i hadn't played (COVID has at least freed up some time to play PS4) so if these are backward compatible then I'd likely get it at launch. If not I'll play them on PS4 and upgrade when I'm done with them.
Is PSVR going to be compatible (or able to run in legacy mode)? I enjoy it as a gimmick but dont see myself upgrading to the newer version

I'm essentially buying this day one solely for the backwards compatibility. Didn't have a PS4, so looking forward to playing all the exclusives, which should keep me busy for ages.
I got the PS4 on release and had played it less and less in the past few years (strangely coinciding with the arrival of my kids....) but have bought a few games recently and am having a bit of a renaissance of gaming so definitely worth digging back into the collection when you get the PS5.

If it's that high I definitely won't be buying until it's ~£400.
I'm thinking it will be between the £400-£500 mark, maybe even closer to the £500 end.
I paid £299 for my PS4 about a year-ish after launch. I can see myself doing something similar with this, depending on what games are knocking around at that time. I jumped in at a time where it was still new and exciting, but there were a few decent bundles or deals out there, so it felt like good value for money.
When I think about how much usage I got out of my PS4 over its lifetime, I wouldn't feel so bad if the PS5 did come to around £400-450 or somewhere along that line. Obviously, I do hope it's cheaper, but I'm prepared for the fact that it's probably going to cost a fair bit.

Mebbe 50 less on both. There's a reason they're holding back on the price announcement, and that's because it won't be pretty, imo of course.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 generation is the last generation to come with physical media as the standard choice of playing games. It seems as if the uptake on digital media is increasing all of the time. Many people tend to stream their films, music, television these days, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if the demand by the disc based games drops dramatically to the point where going digital is the standard way to purchase a game.
What needs to happen as standard is for your digital content to carry over from generation to generation. E.g. any digital games that you purchase on PS5 should be carried on to the PS6 and PS7.
If it launches at £450 for the disc version, I'll go for it on launch. Anything more and I'll hold off, that's about my limit.
I like the idea of discless, especially if it's £80-£100 cheaper than the disk version, but I think the reality for me going for backwards compatibility, is that it'll be much cheaper long term with the disc version.
Right now, games like Horizon, GoW, Spiderman can all be had used for ~£10, and others like Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted collection are even cheaper! So can't see the PS store competing with those prices, especially at launch.
This would only work in the consumers favour if we can have a PC-like approach to digital, with a lot of competitors able to sell keys, otherwise games will never be reasonably priced and the manufacturers will have a monopoly on what people pay.
That, or allowing digital games to be traded in or sold on, which would be nice.
For your first point, we'll move that way too, imo. The market will demand it. Gamers essentially want to play the games in the easiest way possible in the cheapest way possible. These days, the discs just aren't needed. But, they won't commit to digital if every new release is £59.99 or something along those lines. There will have to be a change there and I think we'll see next generation how things will evolve.
Not sure about being able trade or sell on digital games, I don't know how that can be handled on a console, but I'm sure somebody else may have an idea or two.
I think there are a few ways to do it. Sony could add a process to revoke the license of the person selling, and give it to the other person. With extra authentication to proceed to ensure no hackers can just transfer them all at once etc.
Would make sense, as those single player games become defunct once you complete them.

Been through this 100 times. The 360 was like £200 less. Also they gave MS a years head start in most countries. So it was a mistake back then.
This time the Xbox will be priced within range or even higher.
Even at that high price they were losing $240-$300 on every console. I think the PS3 wiped out all Sony’s profit from the PS2.
Can see the digital edition being £100 less than the disc edition as it essentially gets rid of them not making anything on 2nd hand games and I'd imagine the next console will be digital only so subsidising it makes massive sense. (They can then give the reason the digital edition sold 3x more hence why the ps6 or ps5 pro is digital only).

Something that crossed my mind yesterday is that if they really want to keep the price down they could potentially subsidise the digital edition with pre-installed aps (facebook etc) or even ads. I really hope not though.

You will enjoy it. They turned it into a fully blown shooter just for you apex legend.

It’s launch window, so guessing like Infamous was with PS4 it will be a game out early next year.
I don’t play Apex. Only shooters I play are Halo, Gears, counter strike and Rainbow six. I’d play the new cod for a few months before getting bored.

I’m not a huge fan of fighting games anymore, which is strange because I loved them growing up (Tekken, Soul Blade (!), Killer Instinct).
Rainbow Six Vegas was the first game I ever got addicted to online. Attack and defend on calypso casino was incredible.
UFC is only fighting game I would play. I buy most of the new ones including smash and MK, but barely play them. Probably because if I am going to play with my mates then it’s going to be online and these games are really poor online compared to a shooter or even something like Fifa.
I absolutely smashed people on that game. 40-50 kills a game were the norm.
