Two players with similar strengths and similar weaknesses that as a combination can manage to slow down any game to a crawl. And one of the partnership is much better than the other...

The only strength Pogba and Fellaini share is they can both speak French.

Agreed. I even think Schneiderlin would be a better fit, even though he hasn't convinced so far.

Might as well give him some gametime. If we want to move forward as a team Fellaini simply can't be a viable midfield option.

I know what Pogba's strengths are but I genuinely couldn't tell you what Fellaini's are.

Pogba can do everything Fellaini does. Fellaini can do almost nothing that Pogba does.

Similar strengths? The only thing they share in common is that they are both tall. Ah got one more actually, both are Muslim as well IIRC.

No it's just Fellaini has an amazing ability of making his midfield partners really shit

Both rangy, strong, good in the air, but can't track a man in defence and find it difficult to up the tempo if the other players aren't helping. Pogba is a much better dribbler, shooter and passer though.

Pogba and Fellaini are similar?

Fellaini should never be mentioned in the same class as Pogba, Gerrard or Lampard. The guy can hardly compete an 8 yard pass

Perfect, we got Fellaini at a bargain price so let's cash in on him then.

All four are midfielders whose best work doesn't actually take place in midfield.

Beyond that, they're all pretty different players really.

Lampard and Gerrard were both immensely talented midfielders who played best as a free-roaming midfielder, despite a good workrate. Pogba can be compared to them. Fellaini being compared to them or Pogba is just crazy, really. He is impotent attacking-wise, doesn't have the understanding of the game to play as a holding midfielder and he can't even figure out how to free himself to the pass from the center back. He has the physicality and aggression, that's pretty much it.

The problem with Pogba - Fellaini partnership is that there is only one footballer in this equation.

Pogba isn't well-suited for a midfield two though, that's a given, even with a better player.

Similar strengths? The incredibly mobile, ball playing, fast, assist making goalscorer who's a threat from 25 yards, and erm...a big galoot who is good at the super simple things and smashing opponents, both legally and illegally?

I genuinely don't know which of Gerrard v Lampard you're meaning as being much better? At their peaks they both scored sh!tloads. Although 99% of Lampard's were deflected, and he wouldn't have worked without 2 beasts behind him....

Not really, no. Fellaini's been okay this season but Pogba's a far, far better player. I wouldn't even say they're at all similar apart from being European, quite physical and Manchester United players.

On the other hand I noticed how Lingard and Messi are pretty similar too. Both short, fast and have a low center of gravity but rarely outmuscle opponents and win headers. Messi is a much better dribbler, shooter and passer though.

Haven't heard anything so ridiculous since someone said Ozil bounced over the keeper on purpose

On a more serious note, I agree Fellaini does slow down Pogba / our game in general.

 What? Fellaini is just crap and clueless with anything that requires talent (like passing). Pogba is a quality player but not a controlling mid and doesn't have the best positional discipline like Gerrard and Lampard. Both were pretty shit in a midfield 2, or at least without the right type of partner next to them. Fellaini is a player who is tall and a nuissance to opposition... That's all he is. Without his height he probably wouldn't even be championship level.

Fellaini has good touch and close control - looks after the ball well. Probably better than either of Gerrard or Lampard at it tbf.

Have we all forgotten the first 3 games this season?
It was great for 3 games (against no one of note) just like how LVGs 4-1-4-1 mauled all our rivals for 3 games or how Clev and Ando were the best midfield in the world for 5 games...
