Pogba's run up | Pogba mocks it on social media

If it unsettles you it just means you’re fragile mentally. Pogba knows that. Mourinho knows that. Mourinho loves it. He had to hold himself back from saying it shows the balls that Pogba has to step up and ridicule people’s anxiety. Now only if Pogba was actually good at putting the ball in the net he would be the best penalty taker ever.
He had the audacity to play a one-two with Pickford too. Fantastic baller.

Imagine him doing that run up in a knockout penalty shootout? I'd die from nerves.

I think the only player I've ever been the slightest bit comfortable at seeing them take a pen is Scholesy:

Yes, how dare Pogba not be Scholes!
If that's in response to me then I don't know what you mean. I'm not criticising Pogba at all; just saying out of my entire time watching United, Scholes is the only player I've felt confident in taking a pen.

People are too eager to have a go these days!

Don't you realise, that is the only point of the United Forum, an opportunity to have a go :)

Scholes was taken off pens cuz he missed a few

Irwin and Bruce were rock solid though

Yeah, though I'm not saying Scholes was perfect at them. It's just I felt the most confident when he was taking them due to his excellent striking technique. I've always been pessimistic when it comes to pens outside of him.

A couple of Pogba's pens have reminded me of Scholes this season. The ones that went into the top corner.

He fools no one but himself with the run up. Keeper is on their toes and with his last big stride you know when he is going to hit it. Just aim high and make the keeper work for it.

Nani always seemed a sure thing a pens although I'm sure he missed a few as well .

Bad placement and a weak shot are due to poor execution. Whatever run up you do you can make that error.
There’s an age old technique to take a penalty kick. Make up your mind, run to the ball and kick. There’s a reason everyone does it. There’s a reason why you would do it if you’ve ever played football. There’s a reason why no one does the Pogba style run-up for penalty. Run-up is part of the execution.

I don't agree with his run up but if it works it works.

I do however fail to see how there isn't a better penalty taker at Manchester United. You don't exactly need to have Ronaldo's accuracy, confidence or calmness (See Ricky Lambert).

Exactly mate. Very strange response to your post.

Awesome pens those.

Regarding Pogba, if he's happy with that run-up then so be it. His sample size is too low for me to say someone else should take them but if he was to miss one or two more I'd want someone else on them.

Isn't that entertainment for us fans? Let him be, he also promised to change the run up after Pickford saved it.

That’s quite funny tbf.
I always get the feeling that Pogba is actually quite a likeable guy; someone who wants to be liked and isn't particularly malicious. The problem is that he also just across as very immature, so he's perfect for an agent like Raiola, who is particularly malicious.

Jorginho also has a wierd run-up. Zaza is infamous about it too. Wonder if there are others with wierd runups..

Scholes always said much preferred to hit the ball when it was moving and wasn't as good at a dead ball. Can't remember seeing him take any penalties but I'm sure he was right

He took a good few. Used to smash them straight down the middle. I remember one keeper reading it and throwing his hands straight up in the air but the ball was past him before he had a chance.

Edit: this one.

There's a reason why very few people on this planet can do what Pogba can do with a football, he's excellent at it. Spare me the condescension, I've likely played football at a higher level than you but there's no way to find that out unless we play so calm down. The age old technique for a penalty is whichever technique best gets the ball in the back of the net for an individual. I'm not here to argue on semantics, whether you sprint, jog or moonwalk to the ball, the execution is how you hit and direct the ball towards goal. I've indulged you in a discussion of such a silly no-issue for too long. The last thing I'll say on this topic is I'd love for Pogba to do an extra slow run up for the next penalty. Feel free to continue chatting with yourself, I'm done.

Of course you’re done. You were done long time ago but rambled on without any sort of substance in your posts. It’s not a non issue when our permanent penalty taker is crap at taking penalties and that is due to his own stupidity. If he did moonwalk to the penalty and got it in, fair enough. But if he moonwalks and then gets no power in it due to his foolishness I am going to be critical of his approach. This discussion isn’t about how good a footballer Pogba is. It is about his silly run-up. Your point about him being able to get the ball at the back of it doesn’t really stand because he didn’t get the back of the net with that run-up.

It's a ridiculous way to take a penalty and gives zero advantage. Just run and smash the fecking ball towards one of the top corners.

Feck taking a Scholesy bullet to the face  no wonder the poor keeper jumped under it.

I don't get the argument that he does it for attention when he's been doing it since he was an unheralded youth during his academy days

A lot of you come across as a miserable lot getting upset and taking offence to just about anything he does

Now I would pay very good money to see Pogba do this. And miss.

(In a game we're comfortably winning, where goal difference wouldn't make a difference)

Obviously nowhere near as good as him, but I've the same preference. Have no idea why it's so, because hitting a moving ball should be harder.
