Are people really blaming Rooney for their equalizer?

Christ this place is getting worse.

Of course it was his fault. He lost the ball when our players were in attack, leaving us open at the back. He screwed up a simple pass.

How is Shaw your highest rated player in the game? Why the feck was he so far up the pitch for their first goal? You're defending a one nil lead away and you just decide to leave the left side of your defence absolutely gaping. Ridiculous.

We started the second half of that game with basically the same team that started today and were 1-0 at half time - so if we beat lesser teams it doesn't count and if we lose to lesser teams it does count
For pity's sake
You're ignoring the context of the game. We might only have been 1-0 at halftime but it was 4-1 on aggregate. They were never going to score 3-4 goals against us with the players they had missing, the 2nd half was a formality.

Can't even be arsed with being frustrated.

One step forward, two steps back.

No real analysis needed - we are just not a very good side.

Foreign managers/players seldom get the truth of the British game which is you can't succeed with passing and technique alone. The major european leagues defer to technique but here you get your your head kicked in fannying around in the middle of the park.

Wenger never really got it, once the hard edge of George Graham's defence disintegrated he returned to type and tried to emulate Barca and never won the title again.

Mourinho gets it and it seems Peligrini has tuned in but overall they don't understand about "earning the right" ON THE PITCH.

That game was far more important than the Swansea game - so if Rooney hadn't scored first maybe that game would have been different - imagine the reaction on here if that had happened whereas the caf's had a meltdown cos we lost to Swansea - Chelsea have lost to Palace & City, Arsenal have lost to West Ham, Liverpool have lost to West Ham, Spurs haven't won yet
I know let's sack all the managers, all the clubs are rubbish except City and Pellegrini is the most wonderful man who has ever graced this planet:rolleyes:

Should have won that game. Had the majority of the ball and created enough chances to win. Rooney wasted his. Should have scored at least one out of them. Shaw was great attacking but left us panicking at the back. He was out of position for both their goals. Romero was awful on that second goal. He's either got to be brave and go all out or stayed back. Can't go halfway, realise you can't make it before the striker then stop. Memphis wasn't up to it today at all. At least Rooney worked and got himself chances even if he wasted them.

We put in 2 poor performances after each of the CL qualifiers.
Your point exactly?

We played a shit side at home and nearly lost. We go 1-0 up against a decent side who should have been put to bed, and we throw it away....CL has nothing to with it.

I remember in SAFs day we'd have to go to really tough aways,;SAF would moan and bitch about it. I also recall us fighting tooth and nail to get the points or at least show some mettle.

The problem with our play is we always dominate the stats except goals and it's a excuse for our manager Is it arrogant? It's pretty clear that we need a striker and he needs to trust his players but saying that we were kinda stupid looking for more goals when the game was flowing well. However if Rooney had made a better pass to Herrera and he scores then everyone would say it was a good game for us. What disgust me is the hoofing at 80 mins till the end. Everyone knows if the big Belgium is on at the end that's it but you can use him as a decoy as well. The Dutch way is frustrating and in my mind it's why they never won the World Cup even though they are great players

Yes you´re overreacting.
Plenty of time for the manager to get things right
I don't think it's quite that simple. It's not just a product of time. While we're stronger in midfield than we were last season, as it stands, we're much weaker in goal, neutral in defence (at best) and weaker in attack (if only due to having fewer options). Swansea is a decent team and will have a pretty good home record come the end of the season, which is why I don't want to read too much into this match. The worrying factors, however, are more deeply rooted. Honestly, over the full season do you see United matching City, Chelsea or even Arsenal? Injuries will inevitably hit, which will result in even fewer options. Mark my words, we'll be fighting for fourth with the current squad.

Swansea exposed the shortcomings of our first team

Romero was foolish for their second and Blind struggled all day with Gomis
Rooney looked as sharp as a tea spoon

felt Herrera added something with some smart passing - through balls to Rooney and Mata

we only play well in small patches and it was like Newcastle again as we started great then were awful for the last 20 mins of the first half

we started the second great, got the goal and then after an awful Rooney lay off gave away a really sloppy goal

we stopped playing after that....Van Gaal need to add that quality through our spine and even a small change like De Gea playing today could have made the difference

Does he really believe his own bollocks?

Swansea changed their shape, and we couldn't cope with it!!!!!! Who the feck are we? Carlisle Utd playing Barcelona?

that's what killed me. like they tricked him and played with 12 men.

We are bang average.

I am absolutely sick of defending Wayne Rooney. I have been vocal in my support of him but that was a pathetic display. He gave the ball away needlessly for their first goal and the only other thing of note I saw from him was being too lathargic when he went one on one.

Memphis looks like an absolute waste of money, strolling around the pitch, taking too many touches, slow, not intelligent.

Where oh where did Daley blind go for the first goal? Why was smalling 3 on 1 on our box?

Why are we so naive when chasing a game and where has our urgency gone? When chasing a game why do we casually stroll across to take throw ins and allow them to get set?

Romeros shop stopping leaves quite a bit to be desired, that second goal was awful, why didn't he lead with his foot which would have reached the ball long before he went down in instalments leading with his hand?

Basically our back four got exposed, we don't have a striker capable of putting the ball in the net and our midfield are so slow that I'm fairly sure that time went backwards at one point.

Unless we add to the squad in the next two days and manage to keep de gea somehow then we had better get used to these pathetic, listless, shithouse displays.

I don't rant often but I'm fecking furious.
Covering for Shaw who was miles up the field.

Can't stand any more of this childish reaction, what is the average age of this forum! 3?

it's forum fans for you.

They ignore that the ball still had to go the full length of the pitch and ignore that all the defence could have picked some men up, or maybe even the keeper might fancy saving it

Roo is by far our biggest issue, and attack as a whole.

Indeed. I mean, who could have foreseen Swansea changing tactics after going 0-1 down? To be fair though, we did change our shape when we went behind. We put Fellaini on and bypassed the midfield with long balls. That's planning for you.

I believe some fans on caf are expecting mature reactions like

"It was Swansea. We know they are very tough team. They beat us twice last season. So it is ok"

"Rooney needs around 10 matches to get his form going. So we need to be mature and wait"

"It is fine is Memphis shows no desire. It is his first season after all. Next season is his anyways"

"We all need to calm down and believe that Fellaini is the divine element essential to our philosophy."

who the firkin hell would think you need to give the highest paid player in the league 10 games?!

10 games? There you go son, have 1/4 of the season to get warmed up

i find it depressing that the two goals we conceded actually came form us loosing the ball in attacking positions which should have been dangerous and worrying to our opponents.

In the works for a more than a year now......

"Finding Fellaini"

When everything fails, just hoof it up, hoof it up to Fellaini!

Some people are saying that Memphis had a bad game.
I just want to point out (and I stated this before the season started), Memphis is not the finished article. He is not a Di Maria, who is expected to win games, almost all by himself.
This is his first year, he is a young prospect and he "may" become very good. He "may" also fade into nothingness. You cannot expect a new/young player to carry us.
Ashley Young should be the guy starting on the left, with Memphis coming in when Young gets tired. The speed and energy which Memphis could bring if subbed in at 60 minutes, will terrify opponents.
I feel that some fans believed that they were buying the World player of the year (in Memphis), which was never going to happen.
I actually think Memphis has done a decent job in all the games so far (especially in the CL games).

He [G.Neville] will play it safe since he can't call out Wayne's shit performance in public. He is an england coach after all.

I was astounded that he didn't berate Rooney (who was terrible).
It is getting to the stage now, where I am hoping that our players don't pass the ball to Rooney...because he will mess it up and certainly won't score.

I'm actually stunned we lost that. We scored and were looking really dangerous for 5-10 min after but then they managed to score two goals from 2 chances. I don't agree with Neville who was saying Swansea had the best chances, Rooney had 4 pretty good chances to himself. We clearly don't score and it's very foreign and frustration to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I think there is a place for Fellaini, but not as a last ditch striker. You need a player like him to mix it up in the penalty area and around the box, even if it's just to draw away defenders. You've got to have a poacher on there to take advantage of the confusion he creates. Maybe Hernandez could have filled that role today but we lost that chance when we subbed on Carrick.

The fact that he thinks that is all Fellaini can do. He is pretty good with his feet. Ok bring Young on but leave Herrera on, so the play is not one dimensional. He is doing Fellaini a disservice.

He won't berate him, he's an England. Poor Wayne can't do anything wrong.

He got caught out by a bad decision by another player. Other players should have covered when he went forward. He is really looking a bargain buy. He will be LB for many years.

Your fullbacks were exposed after you scored today. Once you get that one-goal lead away from home, might be a better idea not to bomb forward at every opportunity? Some of the defending was downright comical today.
That's exactly where we went wrong. Was having this same thought just before they scored the equaliser. We needed to settle down and tighten things up a bit, before going all out.
