Valencia 2:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

Wed, 12 December 2018

Just heard a united fan on talk sport complaining about tonight. He finishes off with;

“Uniteds not a football club anymore. It’s a business. I guarantee you, if Moyes had been given his 6 years to build the squad, we’d be challenging now.”

Not even a whiff of sarcasm. :wenger:

Well certainly wouldn't be any worse.

Came home from work managed to avoid the score started watching and lasted about 10 minutes before my attention was drawn elsewhere and going by what I’ve just read is it even worth watching the 2nd half?

No. The second half wasn't any better. We picked up a little in the last 10 minutes but really boring game .

Thanks, I’ll save myself the misery of watching the rest then. I honestly wasn’t expecting much but as I thought he might go a bit experimental and throw on some youth it might have been worth a watch.

You probably did not understand Mourinho's tactical finesse. After seeing this match, Liverpool will take the chance to rest their top players and we easily win with five goals. I have not understood the tactics either ...

The problem is no one understands Jose anymore. Not even the players and I would suspect he does not understand himself.

Youth? Hes not SAF. Tbh I don't even know why I keep watching. It's become a chore. After 60 minutes I was already mentally checked out .

Epic levels of bottling in failing to top the group when Juve lost to YB. Mourinho Masterclass.

I actually fell asleep midway during the game. When I woke up, it was 2-1, ffs. We missed nothing.

As much as i get from the highlights, lukaku seems to have killed every move.

Couldn't care less. What did our cnut manager say of the result? I'm not bothered to look it up...

I watched the last 40 minutes on fast forward. This United squad is one of the worst football teams I've ever seen.

Well, the game was crap (or at least we were) but if you offered final 16 with game to spare to me in August, I'd have said 'yes please'. So we can't beat anyone in the next round? We did already with Juventus so forget the last game, it's the next one that counts. From here's it's a cup. I know we want the team to play brilliantly every game, regardless of importance, but I will take today's half-assed performance for a good showing this weekend. Yeah, ever the optimist.

I honestly slept at the start of second half. That used to happen a lot in LVG second season.

I didn't watch the game, but looking at the substitutions, can anyone explain why we brought a striker off for a midfielder when we needed 2 goals?

I was a bit disappointed that Garner and Greenwood didn't get on the pitch, but glad to see Pereira play.

Genuinely the worst United game I remember watching. Well, until 85 minutes when we committed more than 1 person forward. It’s football suicide.

I think it's either this game or the fulham game under moyes with all those crosses being fizzed in.

For the first time I am actually thinking I have wasted 2 hours of my life. Never felt that in any of United's Matches. Not even under LVG.

You never felt that way under moyes?
The way Jose has us playing is as bad as the worst of LVG or moyes.

No other top tier team would put up with this nonsense.

under Moyes at least there was a method to the madness. We knew what we were trying to do(however crap it may have been) and it was the same under LvG, we tried to have possession but under Mourinho we are a nothing team, just nothing. Braindead line ups, zero tactics, hoofball. We are the only who constantly change the midfield and CB position, never allowing a pair to establish continuity.

That may have been the worst game I think I've ever seen us play. Of all the fringe players in the line up tonight, not one of them stepped up to make an argument for themself getting more game time. If anything, they have given Jose more reason not to play them more. Mind you, I feel sorry for Peirara. He finally gets a game and he's played as a left winger? He's a midfielder. Let him earn his spot in his natural position and put Fellaini on the bench for this one. I was also hoping to see Fred step up tonight but I don't think I can count on two hands the number of times he lost possession. And Pogba, oh my....I think it's just time to stop counting on him as a world class player because he's not even close. The only player in the starting XI today that can make an argument for themself to get another start for United was Mata. Everyone else was absolutely horrible...

Out of interest how much would have each individual fan have paid altogether to make that journey to Spain to watch that game and come back?

I'm afraid I gave up watching after first 45 minutes. I wondered what I was doing to myself and turned over to watch the final episode of "Death and Nightingales." It was a damn sight less depressing.

pathetic performance and a wasted year

fast forward to Mourinho pissing off please

as for the game we were limp, boring and as bad as I've seen a United team

The fans that go to an away match in the Champions league, which doesn't mean anything and probably know the manager will pick a weaker team, are not just going to watch the football on the pitch.

Another match I skipped. I never missed a game for years and years and yet this season I have missed a few now. I just cannot tolerate the shower of s*ite served up by this manager and this group of players. I have zero affinity to any of the players bar De Gea, Rashford, Martial and Herrera. Sad times for Utd

Martin Keown actually made valid points all night about a club he loathes and I found myself agreeing with him time and again.

This is the first sign of the apocalypse.

Feels like every game I've missed (a fair few this season) we've been shite. I'm at my grandma's on Sunday so likely missing the Liverpool game :(

yet another abject performance by Mourhinos team, it doesn't seem to matter who he chooses, the team always under performs, absolute rubbish going forward, no idea how to defend, no team pattern, what the hell is he coaching them, tbh we probably shouldn't have qualified from this group based in performance, things could get messy in the next round.

I watched the highlights of the Ajax v Bayern have and even an extremely washed up klaas Jan huntelaar was playing better as target man than Lukaku was last night isit actually farcical
