Yeah I know. Just trying to drop (poor) ideas into Gios brain and hope he mucks up.. team was ok in first round but could be v tough to beat after reinforcements.

By the semis and finals, the teams will be awesome...

The beauty with Kenny is that he's the most rounded forward in the draft.
  • Ruthless finisher - he's scored the most goals of any player in the pool and its timeframe (336!)
  • Rounded - he's the striker with the broadest skillset
  • Back to goal - superb at holding the ball up with that big arse of his
  • Fluid - links up play delightfully

I'm not revealing plans on Dalglish, but Waddle would have relished the sort of freedom he'd have as part of an attacking unit, rather than being part of a rigid 4-4-2 set-up. Him and Barnes used to get so frustrated when they were forced into side-midfield gigs running up and down the park.

Didn’t expect Gio to pick Dalglish as well. But then again the outstanding players this round weren’t going to fit well with Hoddle either way so it makes sense to go with the best player possible.

Sounds similar to current United attack. Too many players operating behind the striker. You'd be better off having Waddle stretch as he's probably comes off behind Dalglish and Hoddle in pecking order.

Unless you're playing the Celtic version, you'd lose a lot of goal threat. Liverpool Dalglish was never prolific.

Don't remember Hoddle ever failing to gel with any particular type of player. Him and Beardsley (who shares some of the second striker qualities Dalglish has, if not the rest of his game) played well together for England for example in 1986 when they stuffed Poland and Paraguay after huffing and puffing with a Hateley/Lineker partnership early doors.

You'd still need a Likener type tho to lead the forward line in that set up. Hateley is also definitely worse player than Beardsley and Beardsley himself formed a great pairing with Lineker, whilst Lineker/Hateley also was off stylistically.

Otherwise - yes he would fit with a SS no doubt, but not with playmaker as Gascoigne and Brady that would occupy that space.

Dalglish is no doubt better option for you than the Gascoigne/Brady which was my point - as those four are the best options in the RR given we have Keano and Best not at their career high.

It would be interesting to see how you would set up but I wouldn't rule out if you go for Hughes for example and go 4-4-2 with Hoddle alongside one of your CM's.

Although slightly more attacking it would free up Dalglish and have him in his zone.

Edit. Think first round, good to be 12-16 (plenty of good players still left but you get two picks in first 20 or so), second round, all about being early pick to get cream of teams who didn't get through.

Yeah true, the players who would compete and clash with Hoddle would be the deeper creative types like Zidane for instance in an all-time pool. You could possibly make it work with Gazza because I think his box to box game is underestimated, but it wouldn’t be optimal, particularly with a younger Gazza 1.0 who was such a free spirit on the park.
