They should probably go for a wide attacker like Hazard this summer, someone with pace and trickery. Toure and Silva are a great core to have in the middle running the game, but out wide Nasri, Milner and co don't have the greatest cutting edge. Navas is bit one dimensional.

When Aguero plays he gets in behind, beats men and generally gives them a lot more pace and penetration, which they could make up for if they got a skillful wide man.
That Hazard point is very valid. When they were struggling against Villa last night, I couldn't help but think what a difference Hazard (a similar type player) would have made to the game. I think City badly lack a direct, pacey winger of the Hazard mould.

I think that was what Navas was bought for but he's not had the best of seasons, he'll probably be better for them next season though.

Who would you describe as "like Hazard" then, or do you just mean "Hazard"?
Well a far more direct player; ala Robben, Hazard. For me, Nasri especially, is far more of a playmaker type player. Navas is good, but again, he doesn't really provide the same kind of threat as players like Hazard, Robben, even Ronaldo.

You're not going to get one of those players to be just an option though.

What's amazing is the football writers voted Gerrard ahead of Toure this season.
Fitted the narrative that they had written didn't it.

Liverpool were the neutrals favourites, it's "fitting" for Gerrard to finally win the title etc etc.

They quickly wrote all this guff after their predicted narrative of Arsenal signing Ozil being the difference came to nothing.

You made that up, it was never the narrative (which was they should've bought a striker instead of another technoidget).
you obviously missed all the constant press about what a genius signing it was.
We could all see the obvious need in your squad.

Wonder if this season will be the same, Fabregas in, no top striker.

You sold Bale we signed Mesut Ozil, Mesut Ozil, Mesut Ozil (fade....). We got a world-class player who lifted the whole team.
Yep, you signed a world class player, a very obvious one playing for the biggest club in the world...for 42 million, the 14th highest fee ever paid for a player? Am I correct?

Aaaaaand he lifted the whole team...to the exact same finish you achieved last season. Sensational.

He's a world class player, excellent in many ways. He was obvious in terms of his profile and it was obvious that you had positions you needed upgrading that went empty.

There was nothing genius about it.

We made a profit in player trading actually. Same as we've done for quite a few seasons now.

But far more importantly, I didn't claim our business was genius.

Player trading. Daniel Levy would be a real hit with American sports franchises.

Yeah Pete, I've never been one to 'banter' about football, either in real life or on the internet so I think you're barking up the wrong tree here if you think I'm the one to do this with.

Suffice to say, you made a ridiculous statement and were pulled up on it. Just accept and move on rather than throwing out silly, jaded one-liners. ]

If not, then please continue as you are.

People seriously still think that Ozil was an unnecessary signing?

Christ.

If we'd signed Suarez with no Ozil, we wouldn't have won the league.

Even Suarez needs providers.

Yes you would have.
The biggest single issue we've had this year is heavy defeats away from home. Suarez wouldn't have made us draw 5-5 at Liverpool or 6-6 at City.

That's a defensive midfield issue. We didn't lose those games by the odd goal.

This isn't a case of simply being able to say a better striker would have solved all the problems.

Maybe some, but there is still an underlying issue of a lack of top quality in certain areas of the team, of which striker is just one.

I don't think you'd have won the league with just Suarez (though not because he wouldn't have service, cos there are still other problems in the squad).

You'd almost certainly have finished higher than 4th though, not least because Liverpool wouldn't have had Suarez anymore.

Top strikers like Suarez are harder to come across than players like Ozil anyway. He will be certainly out of reach for Arsenal this summer.

For god's sake you've been the acceptable and non-ridiculed face of THFC on here but if you score an own-goal like that you can't expect anything but derision.
